"What to Offer Ahmadinejad?"

Oh the dilemmas of post-modern statecraft.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad`s recent anti-Semitic remarks may have dealt a fatal blow to the already fragile negotiation process due to restart next week over Iran`s nuclear program, German experts have said.

'His comments throw a shadow over the whole negotiation process,' Erwin Haeckel, Iran expert at the German Council on Foreign Relations, a Berlin-based foreign policy think tank on Thursday told United Press International in a telephone interview. 'There is a
certain feeling of helplessness: What to do with Ahmadinejad, what to offer him?' (ht: Regime Change Iran)

Two things. First, the Europeans feel helpless because they are helpless. They have allowed themselves to wither into this state of abject helplessness. To quote Robert Kagan, when you don't have a hammer, no problem looks like a nail.

Second, the German quoted above, Haeckel, is a perfect example of everything that's wrong with contemporary "internationalism." He flounders about trying to decipher the Iranian "signals," examining the larger context and then the context still larger than that. He sends emails and makes phone calls trying to decode the subtleties. Haeckel and his associates throughout the diplomatic elite always try to make things more complicated than they are. Ahmadinejad has been very clear and honest and straightforward. He is nothing if not sincere. He has repeatedly answered the hapless German's question.

What to offer Ahmadinejad? It's simple: the Jews.

The Beast Rises Up From The Sea

Iranian President Ahmadinejad has been a very, very busy boy this week. He declared the Holocaust a myth and said that if the Europeans believed they had killed Jews, then they ought to pay the price, not the Muslims of the Middle East.

He suggested Israel be moved to Alaska.

And, he came right out and told the truth about the movement for Palestinian statehood; that it is not, at all, about geographical territory, but is instead about victory for Islam.

The Muslim Brotherhood, never racists who could, or would allow themselves to be outdone, also got in on the act, proclaiming that Israel is a cancer that will soon be destroyed.

Oh yes, and the Iranian Foreign Minister when asked to clarify Ahmadinejad's remarks, said, Ahmadinejad's words expressed the official view of the government of Iran:

“The words of [president] Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the Holocaust and on Israel are not personal opinions, nor isolated statements but they express the view of the [Iranian] government."

Pullitzer Prize winning writer, Charles Krauthammer, says Iran is arming itself for Armageddon:

Holocaust denial and calls for Israel’s destruction are commonplace in the Middle East. They can be seen every day on Hezbollah TV, in Syrian media, in Egyptian editorials appearing in semiofficial newspapers. But none of these aspiring mass murderers are on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons that could do in one afternoon what it took Hitler six years to do: destroy an entire Jewish civilization and extinguish 6 million souls.

Everyone knows where Iran’s nuclear weapons will be aimed. Everyone knows they will be put on Shahab rockets, which have been modified so that they can reach Israel. And everyone knows that if the button is ever pushed, it will be the end of Israel.

But it gets worse.

The president of a country about to go nuclear is a confirmed believer in the coming apocalypse. Like Judaism and Christianity, Shiite Islam has its own version of the messianic return -- the reappearance of the Twelfth Imam. The more devout believers in Iran pray at the Jamkaran mosque, which houses a well from which, some believe, he will emerge.

When Ahmadinejad unexpectedly won the presidential elections, he immediately gave $17 million of government funds to the shrine. Last month Ahmadinejad said publicly that the main mission of the Islamic Revolution is to pave the way for the reappearance of the Twelfth Imam.

And as in some versions of fundamentalist Christianity, the second coming will be accompanied by the usual trials and tribulations, death and destruction. Iranian journalist Hossein Bastani reported Ahmadinejad saying in official meetings that the hidden imam will reappear in two years.

So a Holocaust-denying, virulently anti-Semitic, aspiring genocidist, on the verge of acquiring weapons of the apocalypse, believes that the end is not only near but nearer than the next American presidential election. (Pity the Democrats. They cannot catch a break.) This kind of man would have, to put it gently, less inhibition about starting Armageddon than a normal person. Indeed, with millennial bliss pending, he would have positive incentive to, as they say in Jewish eschatology, hasten the end.

Yes, this is where we find ourselves today.

It looks as if the Beast is rising up out of the ocean. The plans are being laid for the temple to be taken over. The Beast will attempt to set up his abomination of desolation in the very heart of God's land.

Are all these things just quaint old metaphors, or will we allow them to become reality?

Will we allow the man who thinks he is the Mahdi (the Islamic Messiah) to destroy the state of Israel, and claim it for Allah?

Will we allow this maniac to set up his maniacal rule (Sharia) in the land of milk and honey? Will Sharia rule, or will Freedom rule?

We must decide, and soon. The answer to Hitler was always the utter destruction of the Nazi government and ideology. Such, now, is our only choice.

Ahead of Schedule but as Predicted

Perhaps I'm not being pessimistic enough? Two accused terrorists have threatened to assassinate Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

"Abdulla Merhi, 20, and Hany Taha, 31, were among 10 men charged in the city last month with being members of a terrorist organization. ... During the hearing, Crown prosecutor Nick Robinson told the court police intercepted a conversation when Merhi said: "For example if John Howard kills innocent Muslim families do we ... have to kill him and his family?" court was told." Pakistan Irredenta

With the rise of nationalism in Europe during the 19th century came a new phenomenon called “irredentism” – the agitation by one country to reclaim portions of another, based on ethnic similarity or previous ownership. The term was based on the phrase Italia irredenta, the slogan of Italian nationalists who wanted Italy to annex Italian-speaking areas retained by Austria after the unification of Italy in 1866. Italia irredenta was a significant force in Italian politics right up until the Great War, and helped induce Italy to join the Allies.

Various irredentisms were the bane of Europe in the 20th century. Hitler wanted to unite with his ethnic compatriots in the Sudetenland and Alsace-Lorraine. A significant Romanian minority was included in the Hungarian portion of Transylvania, causing friction between the two countries. The Turks and the Greeks are still at odds over Cyprus, and the Serbs long to reclaim the “historic heartland of Serbia” in Kosovo.

Ethnicity, religion, language, shared history, and general culture combined to form a volatile mix that produced modern nationalism. But nationalism and irredentism are not necessarily language-based phenomena; both Italy and Spain united even though their component provinces spoke dialects which were all but separate languages.

Driven as it is by powerful nationalist emotions, irredentism can cause countries to make decisions that are not always in their national interests. It is impossible to understand the deadly foreign policy of Germany during the 1930s without reference to German irredentism. Similarly, in order to understand current Chinese foreign policy it is necessary to examine China’s fixation on reclaiming Taiwan.

And Pakistan’s foreign policy cannot be understood without considering Kashmir.

Muslims gang rapes and political correctness

Swedish girls Malin and Amanda were on their way to a party on New Year's Eve when they were assaulted, raped and beaten half to death by four Somali immigrants. Sweden's largest newspaper has presented the perpetrators as "two men from Sweden, one from Finland and one from Somalia", a testimony as to how bad the informal censorship is in stories related to immigration in Sweden. Similar incidents are reported with shocking frequency, to the point where some observers fear that law and order is completely breaking down in the country. The number of rape charges in Sweden has tripled in just above twenty years. Rape cases involving children under the age of 15 are six - 6 - times as common today as they were a generation ago. Most other kinds of violent crime have rapidly increased, too. Instability is spreading to most urban and suburban areas. According to a new study from the Crime Prevention Council, Brå, it is four times more likely that a known rapist is born abroad, compared to persons born in Sweden. Resident aliens from Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia dominate the group of rape suspects. According to these statistics, almost half of all perpetrators are immigrants. In Norway and Denmark, we know that non-Western immigrants, which frequently means Muslims, are grossly overrepresented on rape statistics. In Oslo, Norway, immigrants were involved in two out of three rape charges in 2001. The numbers in Denmark were the same, and even higher in the city of Copenhagen with three out of four rape charges.

Islamists Attack Churches. Christains Don't Riot. World Continues Yawning.

Four churches in Sydney's southwest have been attacked in 24 hours as the city's riots spread from race to religion. Of course these attacks are the work of the infamous "very small minority." Aren't they always?

Notice how little coverage this gets. Notice the lack of riots in Italy, the US and Britain. Listen this Sunday to priests and preachers all over Christendom not call for violent retribution and holy war against the heathens.

At this point a mosque burning or some similar action against Islamic symbols in Australia seems inevitable. Watch what happens when one mosque is attacked, much less four. Watch for the widespread coverage, the global outrage (and not just Muslim nations either.) Listen for the pinheads on the BBC and NPR wringing their hands about the "racist nature of Australian society," with no disclaimer about any tiny minority. Listen for the death threats against Australian public figures. Watch as politicians get bodyguards and wear flack jackets.

Australians should be examining the situation in Holland very closely. It's a glimpse of their future, only perhaps, worse.

Another Salvo - this time in the land of Oz

I have not posted much on the Australian riots because I really wanted to see how the American media handled this situation. Not surprisingly it has been underreported and the surfie rioters have been described by the MSM as neo Nazis.

Most Americans are probably not aware of the huge influx of immigrants into Australia. My friend Gravel has told me that 100 years ago Australia was 80% Anglo-Celt, today it's 40%. As a consequence Australia is struggling to define itself. Add to that the mostly Muslim groups who do not want to assimilate and you have a place that has finally started to boil over.(remind you of our friends the French - although I hope the Aussies will handle this much differently). I feel for the Aussies, they are one laid back group of people and it's a shame they have to deal with this element of society.

If you listened to the MSM you would have sworn that the cause of the riots was a bunch of drunk surfer racist Nazi's. But if you read here you will see that there is really a rather long laundry list of wrongs perpetrated by these Lebanese gangs. The list includes gang rapes, terror arrests and attacks on life guards. It has been predicted for some time now given the rise in middle eastern crime in Australia and law enforcement has been taking less and less action against these gangs.

h/t Peter Faris QC

“In hundreds upon hundreds of incidents police have backed down to Middle Eastern thugs and taken no action and allowed incidents to go unpunished. Again I stress the unbelievable influence that local politicians and religious leaders played in covering up the real state of play in the southwest.”

This from an article written in April 2005:

Then there are comments by Sheik Faiz Mohamad, a graduate of Islamic law and lecturer at an Islamic centre in southwestern Sydney. Faiz's comments, that women largely bear responsibility for rape if they make themselves an object of sexual desire, have upset many in a religious community that is still haunted by images and stories of Bosnian refugees being gang-raped during the recent war. The fear is that as Australians outside the Muslim community become aware of his comments, a wider backlash will result. Yea no kidding.

Now they are burning churches, beating women with bats and shooting at Catholic school children.

Can you feel the level of frustration the average Aussie must be feeling right now.

I asked an Aussie friend of mine to tell me what is really going on there. I thought you might be interested in getting a first person take on what is going on in the land of Oz.

"The reactions are predictable. If you only relied on MSM to form opinion, then it would appear to be a clear case of "White man bad", but cracks began to appear in that MSM front from day one.

Our media is controlled, to an enormous extent, by two men, Kerry Packer, an avowed and public atheist, and our old internationalist friend, Rupert Murdock. They own all the TV and most of the print media.... so their politics is rampant. Murdock is is bed with a Saudi Sheik, so his position was pre-determined.

However, Radio has become the focal point. Talk-back is not the domain of either Mogul and it has been telling it like it is.

The State Government is being seen, very clearly, as a major causative, and as having no idea (or intention) of how to cope. Their very predictable response has been to give themselves more police powers to defray large crowds etc. Pointless. Most Australians are kinda appalled at the state our various police forces have been allowed to sink to. Seriously, they now have problems dealing with railway fare evaders and school yard bullies. They are politically correct to the point of being a joke. The Police Forces was one area where "feminists" really went for "inclusiveness" and "tolerance". WE have Police Cultural Awareness Units!!!!! WE have Muslim Police women, purely to be representational.

"More powers" is not causing too much concern, except to the civil libertarians. ON the street its a case of, same old, same old. And an awareness that "authority" is not dealing with the problem, and is actually exacerbating it, by their attitude.

The overwhelming feeling here, even among those who decry the violence of Saturday, appears to be that it was inevitable and that it was reaction to known aggressive Leb attitudes that have been happening for years. It is not only the beaches where this happens, you see. Everywhere that Leb society intersects with mainstream, there have been clashes, and for years. There are not too many people who don't know how bad it has been. Parks, beaches, Forests, tourist attractions, cinemas, restaurants, ....whatever, when the Lebs turn up, everyone had better leave, or bloodshed follows. One Rugby League Club, the Canterbury Bulldogs has been co-opted by Leb youth as "their" team, and there have been increasing footie riots over the last five years, something unheard of here.

Alarmingly, for the State Govt, so many "interviews" with older, more sedate members of society are airing, where the attitude is..... we have taken so much of this abuse, and we can only take so much. One very common tactic of Leb youth has been getting an airing, and from many different suburbs... the "tactic" of marching into "white" restaurants (white??? Thai/Indian...anything that is not Leb!!) and spitting on the patrons and in their food. This has been happening for years. The Rape Gangs....every one knows. It was kids who "took back the beach", but their parents agree!!!!

We don't have a Govt that will dare look at the truth, as they were the party that actively promoted Multi-Culti. Our Premier (I still think of NSW as "mine"!!!) is from an ethnic minority, and does not wish to acknowledge that "original" Australians have legitimate gripes. So, the official line is that this is a "Law and Order" issue. It is, to some degree (minimal - there are always thugs who turn up at street events!) but people are looking at the State Govt for a truthful assessment and response. Not getting it, the death kneel for this Labor Govt has sounded. Several State Labor MPs acknowledge this and are acting accordingly, trying to save lost ground. Too late, I suspect, but there are cracks appearing all over their so-called "united" Party.

Federally, John Howard is standing by his position. Australia is not racist. He flew out to Malaysia yesterday to attend the APEC conference, so that official line was being hammered, as he has to talk turkey with countries who are quick to criticise. With the "no racist" line set in cement, Howard is at direct odds with Iemma/NSW Labor. AS NSW Labor has to appeal to Howard for approval of the "new powers" law, there is an interesting war shaping up there!!!!

All in all I feel pretty good, although I'd like to see more, and this has certainly brought my anger and frustration up above ground. You never win the war at the first skirmish, but all things considered, for an opening campaign it was very good. Because, we are right! And I have no hesitation or embarrassment in saying that loud and clear. The injustices the "original" communities have had to swallow, and for so many years, are coming home to roost. WE demand.

This coming weekend I expect more, and I expect the first deaths very soon. A Catholic Church Nativity Play was shot up last night, and a Church Hall in another suburb was burned down. Unfortunately for the Muslims, the Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, George Pell, a GOOD man and a very public and POLITICALLY POWERFUL MAN was at that Nativity play, when it was shot at. Not a good PR move. Catholic or not, Pell has a LOT of respect, and a lot of clout!!!

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! But, someone will die, and very soon.
The degree to which this has mobilised "average Australia" is also noteworthy. It seems no-one is without an opinion. At the shop-counter, everyone is talking. All good!!!! In laid back, "she'll be right", "no worries" Australia, that in itself is remarkable.

I think blogging is getting the truth out there, but no-one with any sensibility would expect that Australia is being painted in a good light by International media at the moment.
One very Australian attitude is....... who gives a f**k what they think.
Amen to that!
Catch ya later.......exciting times!!!!"

Given CAIR's Omar Ahmad's statement:

"Those who stay in America should be open to society without melting, keeping Mosques open so anyone can come and learn about Islam. If you choose to live here, you have a responsibility to deliver the message of Islam ... Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth." - Omar Ahmad

Who Does This Remind You Off?

If you have any doubt that this is Hitler incarnate, think again.

I will again challenge you to ask around at work, ask the people you interact with what they know or think of what is going on in Iran.

As I have found, the people I see on a daily basis, know very little.

It is my goal, my mission to make as many people as possible aware of the danger that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad presents to the world.

Iranian leader denies Holocaust

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has courted further controversy by explicitly calling the Nazi Holocaust of European Jewry a "myth".

"They have created a myth today that they call the massacre of Jews and they consider it a principle above God, religions and the prophets," he said.

On live TV, he called for Europe or North America - even Alaska - to host a Jewish state, not the Middle East.

Israel swiftly denounced the president's comments.

"We hope these extremist comments... will make the international community open its eyes and abandon any illusions about this regime," Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev told AFP news agency.

Speaking to thousands of people in south-eastern city of Zahedan, Mr Ahmadinejad brushed aside criticism of his views, saying it was orchestrated by supporters of Israel.

"If someone were to deny the existence of God... or prophets and religion, they would not bother him. However, if someone were to deny the myth of the Jews' massacre, all the Zionist mouthpieces and the governments subservient to the Zionists tear their larynxes and scream against the person as much as they can," he said.

Israel's spokesman said the Iranian president's latest remarks reflected a "perverse vision of the world held by this regime".

BBC Tehran correspondent Frances Harrison says the Iranian press has wholeheartedly endorsed the president's views, calling them logical and less passive than the approach of previous Iranian governments.

So the Iranian press has wholeheartedly endorsed his views.

Is anyone else concerned about Iran yet?

The world, as a whole, should be.

The sentiment felt by the Iraninan press should be enough evidence that Iran should be in every headline, and on the mind of every decent human being on the planet.

If we don't put a stop to this now, we will be dealing with Hitler and The Nazi's, part 2.

More on the Cronulla Riots: "Is Islam the Problem?"

There is an excellent article in The Sydney Morning Herald that provides further insight into the recent riots in Australia:

Is Islam the problem?

Australia does not have a race relations problem. We have a clash of cultures and that's a big difference -- and maybe the problem is certain forms of Islam.

Of course, the marauding boneheads who rampaged through Cronulla on Sunday don't make this distinction. If they did, perhaps they would realise that when they screech "Lebs out" they are also referring to the majority of Lebanese Australians who are Maronite Christians, in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.

By their chants, they are also demanding the expulsion of NSW Governor Marie Bashir and her husband, Sir Nicholas Shehadie, two of the finest citizens this state has ever produced; and Victorian Premier Steve Bracks, one of the most outwardly knockabout political leaders in Australia. Lebanese all.

The problem is not the blood that runs through people's veins. Any form of discrimination based on race or ethnicity -- based on the colour of one's skin or hair or eyes -- is inherently immoral, illogical and evil.

But culture and religion are behavioural. They involve values.

People can be born into a particular culture or religion but sooner or later they reach an age of reason where they can embrace or reject their precepts. And if people freely embrace a culture that is antithetical to the prevailing social mores -- in our case, I would hope, liberal, enlightenment values -- then we are entitled to judge, object, censure and even discriminate.

Which brings us to this extremely prickly issue of radical Islam. . . Read entire article

Aussie Riot Roundup

Australia has "declare war on rioters":

SYDNEY has declared war on all rioters after more than 48 hours of lawlessness and admissions from both the police and Muslim leaders that they have been unable to control the angry mobs of young men.NSW Premier Morris Iemma announced a series of new police powers, including increasing the penalty for rioting from five years to 15, as the number of officers on the streets was trebled.

At dusk last night, an extra 450 highly mobile police and 20 dog-squad units were patrolling the hot spots in suburbs across Sydney as communities braced for a third night of violence.

However, despite the extreme measures, the rioting is spreading to other cities:

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - The racial unrest that broke out in Sydney’s beachside suburbs over the weekend has spread to two other large Australian cities, where people of Middle Eastern descent were assaulted by whites, police said Tuesday.

The media keeps telling the story as if it were "white supremacists" beating on Muslims. But, that's not the whole story:

On Monday night, several thousand men met at Lakemba Mosque, where leaders urged them to keep the peace. Their calls were ignored, however, and 11 men were arrested after a second night of violence in Cronulla that left seven people injured, one of them a police officer.

Bats and iron bars were seized and police found a cache of Molotov cocktails.

Police are also now investigating bullet holes found in the cars of several staff members at St Joseph the Worker Primary School in South Auburn after a Christmas carols service on Monday evening. Parents and children were abused by a group of young men of Middle Eastern appearance and gunshots were heard during the service.

An editorial in the Australian declares it is not all about racism:

Premier Morris Iemma has said it was a demonstration of Australian racism. He is probably right that some in the mob baying for blood believe people of Middle Eastern birth or ancestry, all labelled as Lebanese, come from an inherently inferior culture. But this does not mean they speak for us all. The way Australia has successfully accepted millions of migrants over 50 years makes it manifest they do not. About 20 per cent of all Australians come from non-English-speaking families who have been in Australia for only one or two generations.

Certainly, there is a great deal of prejudice directed against migrants, especially those who affect to despise Australia. But there is a world of difference between prejudice directed against migrants, which time heals, and racism, which festers for centuries.

So, if it's not racism, then what is it. Jonz hasexcerpts from a note from an Australian women explaining what it's like on the ground:

YESTERDAY a colleague emailed me from New York. The young lawyer - her family lives in Brighton-Le-Sands, a bayside suburb north of Cronulla in Sydney - wrote: "While I agree there is no justifying excuse for the violence and breakdown in order that occurred at Cronulla, it needs to be put in context. Unless you live in an area like Cronulla, Brighton-Le-Sands or Bondi, you have no idea what it is like to have one's suburb regularly inundated with large groups of young Muslim men from the western suburbs who proceed to shoot people [as has happened in Brighton], intimidate people, regularly threaten people within their vicinity with violence, drive around in large groups screaming abuse at people from cars with their music blaring, regularly brawling, etc."

This young woman recounted that all of the girls in her family (except the youngest) have been "subject to harassment inflicted by groups of these men - comments on our appearances, racist comments on our Australian background, unwanted touching, being followed while walking home by groups of men in cars (I was once followed all the way home - have never been so scared in my life), sexually explicit remarks while alone, with friends or with boyfriends, unwanted called-out invitations to have sex with groups of them, etc".

And finally, Wretchard has some uncharacteristically dark ruminations:

My two cents worth on the Maroubra beach riots (Eastern suburbs) is this. There's a perception, justified or not, among some Anglo Australians that authorities are not cracking down hard enough on Middle Eastern gangs, who are in Western Sydney. Some days ago, a Lebanese gang supposedly attacked lifeguards, who are an iconic part of Australian beach culture. That's a little bit like spitting on the Flag and writing grafitti on the Liberty Bell. So guys revved up by beer decided it wasn't just Miller Time, but payback time.

I have no doubt that some of the Middle Eastern guys beat up were innocent. But that's what happens when perceived political correctness undermines public confidence. We rely on the state to dispense justice, when that is thought to fail then mob rule steps in and punishes innocent and guilty alike.

I've been warning about this for some time now, both with respect to the torture debate and in an old post called the Three Conjectures. Like most people in Oz, I have Muslim or Middle Eastern friends and the way I got it figured is if we don't start cracking down on the Osamas and the Zawahiris and the al-Arians because they are draped in this bogus human rights shield, then the Joe Samadis and the Bill Mansours of the world are gonna start catching it. What's the use of being innocent if the guilty go scot free? One day if a nuke goes off in Sydney or Manhattan all the bets are off.

I get a little emotional sometimes watching these peacenik types defend blatant murderers because by frustrating justice they are building up tectonic pressures that will go snap one day, and it won't be their necks at the end of a rope. What the world needs isn't the fake sympathy of the Euro-human rights crowd but justice. They should remember that in the absence of justice there is only revenge.

Iran Tests Missiles, Commissions Sub

Iran has successfully tested surface-to-sea missiles with a range of 110 kilometers (68 miles).

The Silkworms have a speed of 290 kilometers per hour and a range of 110 kilometers. They can detect targets from a distance of 15 kilometers and have the capacity to destroy a warship.

On Sunday, Iran commissioned its second domestically-built submarine, a vessel that can fire missiles and torpedoes simultaneously.

Cronulla, Day 2

Local media reported a "terrifying escalation" in the conflict, as 70 car loads of Lebanese youths arrived in the predominantly white suburb of Cronulla - the flashpoint for yesterday's running battles - intent on revenge.

The Sydney Morning Herald described how the youths began smashing up shops and cars with baseball bats and threatening passers-by. There were more disturbances in the neighbouring suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands where bricks were thrown at passing cars.

Around 600 people, some armed with pistols and crowbars and summoned by mobile phone text message, gathered to confront one another on Maroubra Beach, in a mainly white suburb to the south of the city.

That's actually one of the better media reports I have read about this. Meanwhile PM John Howard "appeals for calm" and tries to avoid comparisons to Chirac.

He said: "There appears to be an element of white supremacists and they really have no place in mainstream Australian society, those sort of characters belong in 1930s Berlin." Is he watching the news?

Witnesses said "chaos" had broken out in a shopping centre at south Sydney's Cronulla Beach, the scene of mob violence on Sunday, with vehicles damaged and police making arrests as gangs of men roamed the streets.

Reports said: "People are standing around in shock, just watching. Every window in some cars have been smashed. Roads have been blocked by police."

One resident, who didn't want to be named, said about 50 cars had swept into the area, disgorging men of Middle Eastern appearance who begun wrecking every car in sight with baseball bats.

Are these the white supremacists Howard is so concerned about? Probably not.

Note that the 'white supremacists' spared the nearby Korean community of some 60,000.
"There is no chance that this riot will spread to Korean residents," said a representative from the Korean Society of Sydney. He seems pretty confident. You'd think that Koreans would be quite worried if indeed there were thousands of angry white supremacists roaming the streets like it was Berlin in the 30s.

Color me crazy, but could it be that despite claims by Howard and the media most of the Aussie rioters are not in fact neo-Nazi or white supremacists? Are most of these people in fact locals extremely angry at what they see as continued harassment and generally intolerable behavior by members of the Lebanese immigrant community? Instead of condemning the rioters with a broad brush, shouldn't the authorities try to understand the root causes of the unrest?

Talk, Fight, Talk, Fight, Fight, Fight, Fight,...

Iran said on Sunday that the recent remarks on Israel by its President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had been misinterpreted by some countries. "The president's comments on Israel did not include any new contents, but they have been misinterpreted by some countries and organizations," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told reporters at his weekly news briefing.

(I may not like President Ahmadinejad's rhetoric but at least I know where he stands.)

"The Zionists and their American allies surprisingly show sensitivity to any remarks (Talk about the pot calling the kettle black) on the Zionist regime, which betray their weakness and embarrassment about attention of the Muslim nations to the plight of Palestinians," Khamenei said. (Would someone please ask President Ahmadinejad if the comments below were misinterpreted as well?) In late October, the hardline president said Israel should be "wiped off the map", inciting bombardments from some countries.

isolated incident: A euphemistic phrase which is used in the dishonest portrayal of the many and frequent instances of Islamic terror. This deceptive term depicts these acts of terror as aberrations which are more of the exception than the norm. The isolated incidents add up at an alarming rate, though; and even one or two acts of Islamic mass murder are truly atrocious and devastating. This term is very often used in a sentence which looks something like this: The World Trade Center attacks was an isolated incident* carried out by extremists who represent a tiny fraction of all Muslims, and do not represent Islam, which is the Religion of Peace. It's really just P.R./damage control to use such euphemisms. However, they have the unfortunate effect of legitimating terrorism, at least to a limited extent. Terror should be called terror, and when it is perpetrated by Muslims in Islam's name, it should be called Islamic terror. Also see taqiyya*

Background of the Cronulla Beach Violence

It seems to me that much of the coverage of the recent violence on Australia's Cronulla Beach is somewhat misleading. The implication is that attacks are motivated solely by racism.

Racism is a major factor, but there are other causes: primarily religious and cultural differences. While this violence is to be condemned, and the perpetrators punished, it is useful to take a deeper look at the background of the problem.

Over time, there has been a series of gang rapes of non-Moslem women by Moslem immigrants (this being but one such story).

In addition, on Sydney beaches, there have been several incidents of harassment and assaults on non-Moslems by gangs of "Middle Eastern youths". Recently, they have threatened violence to woman wearing bikinis, assaulted beachgoers and attacked lifeguards.

Many Australians have the perception that the courts, in the interests of promoting "multiculturalism", have been overly lenient with the perpetrators: the perception of many Australians is that many Muslim immigrants demanded, and got, special treatment, and that Australians could not count on politically correct authorities to adequately protect them from Moslem violence.

This recent large outburst of violence on Cronulla Beach began when "lower class" individuals waited for "middle eastern youths" to arrive at the beach. (They were surprisingly well organized, as they coordinated their attacks using cellphones.)

A "cycle of violence" has begun, as some of these "middle eastern youths" later smashed windows and committed other acts of vandalism in white neighbourhoods.

There's some good ongoing coverage on several weblogs, especially here, here, here and here.
