This Is Frightening - Ahmadinejad Really Does Seem To Believe He Is The Mahdi

There has been much speculation about the mental health of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinjad. He believes he had a mystical experience while speaking at the United Nations. He calls for Israel to be wiped off the map. He speaks longingly of the return of the Mahdi; the Hidden Imam.

Well, apparently, he believes he is the Mahdi:

As you probably already know, Iranian president Mahmood Ahmadinejad has started a weblog in Farsi, English, Arabic and French. This led me to lookup the whois-record of his domain name, ahmadinejad.ir.

There's something strange here. While the first name of the Iranian president is "Mahmoud", the domain registration says "Mahdi". In Islamic eschatology, the Mahdi is the prophesied redeemer of Islam, who will change the world into a perfect Islamic society before the end of times.

It is well known that Ahmadinejad is a strong believer in the return of the Mahdi. But isn't this registration a strong indication that he (or his staff) believes that he himself is the Mahdi?

Antichrist, anyone?

Or so he wishes...

Either that or he is identifying himself as a follower of the Mahdi. Either way it is disturbing.

We don't really know what he is thinking, but as you say, Ron, it is disturbing, and it is important information to know.

If Ahmadinejad believes he is the Mahdi, he won't stop at ANYTHING to bring about the "prophecy."

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh? Just like we had to wait and see if Hitler really meant what he said.

Oh dear... has anybody happened to research this sort of name usage amongst fervent Mahdi fans and/or members of that sect Ahmadhimmijerker belongs to? Maybe it really does just identify him as a Mahdi groupie, but there is no denying there's an ominous sound to it. However, isn't the Mahdi supposed to make a formal appearance at Ishfahan I think it is when the world has reached the appropriate state of chaos, rather than reveal himself to have been hanging around just waiting for the right time to, er, come out of the well?

Revere Rides Again,

I don't know much about the whole Mahdi thing. Hopefully someone else can fill us in.

Previously he has indicated that he thinks he is the advance man for the Mahdi, kind of like John the Baptist was for Jesus.

The analogy would be John the Baptist setting up a website with "christ.org" as the URL.

Hmmm...

I've looked at all his weirdness about the Mahdi as possibly being posturing; playing to the masses, like a religious huckster. But, this is a personal thing. It's like my nom de plume. No one really knows why I call myself Pastorius. They think it might have something to do with my Christianity. Perhaps, I am a Pastor. No, Pastorius is the name of my favorite jazz musician. Or, here's another example. Back before my wife and I had kids, my password for my ATM Account was R Juju. Why? Because, the thing my wife and I loved the most in the world was our cat, which was named Juju.

Well, Mr. Ahmadinejad is telling us something personal about himself here. He really is obsessed with the Mahdi.
