Did "Green Helmet Guy" Show Up At The Fadel Shana Death Scene?

Firefighters hose down the car of Reuters cameraman Fadel Shana after he was killed in Gaza April 16, 2008. A Reuters cameraman and two other Palestinian civilians were killed on Wednesday in what local residents said was an Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip. Shana, 23, was covering violence in the enclave for the London-based international news agency.

Here's a pic of "Green Helmet Guy" from last summer's Fauxtography extravaganza:

Are they the same guy?

I would highly doubt it - Here's a higher resolution of the same gentleman, EXTREME GRAPHIC WARNING and h/t to lumberjack for the photo.

There are still PLENTY of other things that don't add up in this case, though. What was Fadel doing there? Why did the IDF feel sufficiently threatened to fire at his position? And is the damage done to the truck consistent with the type of shell that everyone thinks did this?

I'm EAGERLY waiting to hear the IDF's report on this incident. I understand that they've got better things to do with their time, but defending their actions really should be a priority for someone in Ye Olde Chain of Command.

Anyway—Love to see everyone paying attention to this! Keep up the great work!

Respectfully,

Brian,

I don't get it. If that's the same guy, then where is his orange vest?

Good work you do over at your blog. Thanks.

Pastorius,

Ah, good point—The vest is there, but the shirt underneath is different. My bad! I'll see if I can find any other pictures in the archives to help identify the fellow, though for the record, I still doubt that GHG would bother to make the trek from Lebanon all the way down to Gaza for the occasion. :)

Respectfully,
Brian

Heh. That's funny. Good point. See, I forgot that the original fauxtography scandal emanated from Lebanon. I thought it was Gaza.

Shows you my mind for detail.

Thing about it is, I do believe I have an eye for posture, and this guys posture looks similar to that of the GHG.

But, you're right, it is doubtful he'd come all the way down from Lebanon. And, besides, if he is from Lebanon, he is probably Hizbollah, not Hamas.

Lawhawk blew this up and said he thinks it's definately NOT GHG.

Pastorius, I sent both of you a link but your e-mail bounced it. Check for Green Helmet here:

They say it's Gaza, but FARS sometimes lies.

Lumberjack,
I didn't see him.

Did you?

Well, I think this is him, at the bottom of the stretcher:

Though, I admit it could just be my western eye not being able to distinguish subtle differences in the middle eastern face.

Even the glasses look the same to me though.

No, I think you're right. I think that is him.

Interesting.

Thanks.

And it might be Lebanon as well:

Israel did go into Lebanon a week or two before this date. This was around the time that Katyusha rockets were becoming a big problem.

FARS is entirely capable of mixing and matching photos to get their point across.
