Catholic Church Working To Put An End to Obama Policy

Wow, talk about a line in the sand. If this story is true, this will be one of the gutsiest political moves in history.

The Catholics are taking a hard line. I wish they would have done so before the election. But, I suppose, better late than never.

They're prepared, apparently, to close down all their hospitals if the Freedom of Choice Act is passed by Congress.

As I understand it, the bill would prevent any doctor from refusing to do an abortion, and would instantly undo any state laws that have been passed, by the legislators or the people, that have limited abortion in any way, including late term and partial birth.

The closing down of over 500 hospitals and countless clinics is a big deal. Let's see how the O-bami crowd handles this one.

The Caltholic Church is not willing to even sell the buildings, knowing they would be used to perform abortions. Apparently they are willing to just close them down...and leave them vacant.

Now, that's a stand I would admire. Costly. Difficult. Brave.

Some of the bishops, during the discussion, went as far as saying the Catholic Church should be willing to close some health facilities rather them allow them to be subject to a mandate to do abortions from the Obama administration.

Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Chicago spoke up about the threats to Catholic health care under the bill.

“It could mean discontinuing obstetrics in our hospitals, and we may need to consider taking the drastic step of closing our Catholic hospitals entirely,” Paprocki said. “It would not be sufficient to withdraw our sponsorship or to sell them to someone who would perform abortions. That would be a morally unacceptable cooperation in evil.”

“I do not think I’m being alarmist in considering such drastic steps,” he said. “We need to respond in a morally appropriate, responsible fashion.”

A person may not agree with the position of the Catholic Church on abortion and still appreciate the fact that the Church would be willing to stand up, in such an absolute manner, to the anti-Freedom policy of Barack Obama.

Great blog!
I read a great piece about Aisha, the child wife of Mohammed, on a blog that belongs to an exmuslim.

Pastorius,

It will be a sad day when the catholic hospitals close because the liberals won't tolerate them peacefully following their religious convictions. So much for the idea that liberals are tolerant and conservatives are mean spirited oppressive bigots. So much for multiculturalism. The left seems to only show tolerance to those that don't disagree with liberal orthodoxy, except for Muslims who might kill them for looking at them funny.

But would the entire Catholic hospital system have to close? Locally, St. Francis hospital does not provide OB/GYN services at all. Within blocks, another hospital fulfills that need.

Anonymous,

The church might close the entire American catholic hospital system down, because under freedom of choice act, catholic doctors who refused to preform abortions would be forced to refer a woman who wanted one to someone who would. The Catholic church regards abortion as murder, and for them to even let a women know who would abort their child for them, is a violation of catholic teachings.
