I heard this on the audiobook, Politically Incorrect Guide To Islam, last night and it struck me forcibly.
Out of a kind of mental streamlining of the principle of multiculturalism, the concept has simplified into, "My own culture sucks."
Rather than simply preventing arrogance, which I think the multicultural doctrine had as its original intention, it has streamlined into a feeling of shame for the West's culture.
Of course, if a multiculturalist was plopped down in Iran or Saudi Arabia, and all the key elements of his own culture were removed (such as liberty and equality), he would have an entirely different appreciation for what is special and worth defending about his own culture.
