URGENT!!! URGENT!!! - CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION Secretly Being Railroaded Through!!!

I'm a bit unclear, even after reading the comments, exactly what's afoot here and how close to happening it is (been a really long day). But it doesn't sound good and if action is indeed needed then action we need take.
I'm lifting this straight from Dr. Bulldog:

Yesterday, Ohio tried to become the 33rd state to vote in a Constitutional Convention!!!
This article is a day old, but it IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Here is my personal update to the story:
Due to public concern, the vote on Ohio House Joint Resolution 8 ( HJR 8 ) was TEMPORARILY halted, but it WILL come up again! - there are rumors it could be today or tomorrow!
Even the PETA-like Libtards are fighting against this!!!
http://www.peacechicken.com/2008/12/10/update-on-ohios-hjr-8-call-for-constitutional-convention
Only 34 states are needed to CHANGE THE U.S. CONSTITUTION!!!!
And, once a “Con Con” is approved — only two more states to go! — Congress (think Nancy Pelosi - Harry Reid) can select who will be on the committee to CHANGE the Constitution.
The states have NO CONTROL over what the committee decides to change in OUR CONSTITUTION!!!
They can change ANYTHING. And, it’s ALL LEGAL and binding!!
A list of the states that have secretly slipped this by the public can be viewed by
CLICKING HERE.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered my state of Missouri on that list!!!
TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!!
WRITE EVERY PUBLIC SERVANT YOU KNOW!!!

Read it all over there, including the comments especially Bulldog's & Ronin's and if you can shed some light on it for me poor tired brain I'd appreciate it. Because although it seems true enough and concern enough for me, the bullshit meter twiches a little that maybe it's not as urgent as feared.

I'm pretty surprised to find my state (Massachusetts) is not on the list. Who is likely to be behind this and what changes are they aiming at?

Wading through it what I gather is there has been a move up for quite some time to basically scrap and rewrite the Constitution. Without our okay. Apparently only 2 more states (including Ohio's vote yesterday) are needed to call for a convening of a Constitutional Convention.

Delegates to said C.C. would be appointed by folks like Reid and Pelosi. Again without our okay. And then the C.C. could rewrite the Constitution anyway they see fit.

Also, my understanding, is that it doesn't matter when the state voted to convene a new C.C., there is no expiration date, no statute of limitations. So whether it was last week or 10 yrs ago if they voted in favor that vote is still good.

Who's behind it would seem kind of murky, even maybe in flux. What changes they are aiming at would, I suppose, depend on who is in Congress and making the appointments when enough votes are met.

Now here's where the bullshit meter starts ticking.

If this is true then why hasn't someone in one of these states or in one that tried and failed started yelling about it?

Wouldn't a ratification process be needed to push this through? No small thing. And if certain states opposed it, then what? Wouldn't it be out in the open and the game up?

As I said I'm not sure what to make of this. On one hand if true it certainly needs to be shouted and stopped. But it just has a certain smell of urban legend or conspiracy theory (although not on Bulldog or Ronin's part, I would think they were taken in) and if that can be shown I would be MORE than happy to pull the post or at least update it as a hoax.

revereridesagain,

There is no way they could get away with doing this without alerting the public and it could be political suicide for anyone to attend it. I'm worried, but I'm also somewhat skeptical. This would be hard for them to pull off, without making a lot of voters angry. Many politicians have little, respect for the constitution, but to disrespect it in this manner sounds like it might almost require a political death wish.

I agree and more succintly put than I did ;>)

This is a very bad idea. We don't have the same quality of statesmanship and thinking we had in 1776. Can you imagine PETA, ACLU, Sierra Club, Pro-Abortion, NAMBLA, the Gay lobby etc. chiming in w/their desires and demands to be added? I can. And it ain't pretty.

Let's just not open up the ConCon and continue to ignore the Constitution as we have since 1932.

I have a hard time buying into this as reality.

The sunshine on this would be so great it would be blinding

The last thing revolutionary minorities like those mentioned really want is real sunshine and an aroused general population.

You can't organize and carry out a constitutional convention in the dark.

You can bet that along with the PETA types will be a bunch of skinheads joining in until it looks like a circus sideshow ...INCLUDING FESTIVUS believers

Hell, I'll show up dressed as a king's fool in leotards shouting "SANCTUARY, SANCTUARY"

SamenoKami,
Epaminondas,

I agree this whole thing sounds like a bad idea. I can just imagine the rejects who would show up at a modern constitutional convention. Some of the movements in our country today would shock and horrify the founders, and rightfully so, especially, but by far not limited to Planned_Parenthood, and not to mention the still, thank God, minor pro_pedophilia crowd.
