Tennessee Democrats Worry That Obama Is A Terrorist

From Gateway Pundit:

The case is still open on Obama--Tennessee Democratic Party Leaders are still questioning whether or not Barack Obama is a terrorist.

Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee member Fred Hobbs and Democratic superdelegate Lincoln Davis hash it out.FOX News reported:

The Political Grapevine reported this earlier today:

The Barack Obama campaign may have to update its new Web site set up to combat vicious rumors thanks to a fellow Democrat.Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee member Fred Hobbs tells The City newspaper in Nashville,

"I don't exactly approve of a lot of the things he stands for — and I'm not sure we know enough about him. He's got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be."

Go read the whole thing.

What would have given them that idea?

His relationship with Raila Odinga, the Kenyan Presidential candidate who has, apparently, worked out a pact with Muslims to extablished Sharia law if he is elected?

His assertion that the Muslim Call to Prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth"?

His relationship with Tony Rezko?

His friendships with multiple people connected to the Baathist Party of the Saddam Hussein regime?

The fact that he employs members of the Nation of Islam?

The fact that he goes to a church which honors Louis Farrakhan, a virulent anti-Semite racist?

Obama's Top 50 Lies?

The Skeleton's In Obama's Closet?

I don't know what could have made these Democrats so worried about Obama?

They must be racists.

Italy Will Now Use The Military To Patrol Its Streets

They say they have to protect themselves from criminals, apparently.

From ABC News:

The Italian government has defended its decision to use soldiers to patrol
cities in an effort to curb crime, rejecting criticism that it will "militarise"
the streets.

"There is a strong call from citizens for better control of the
streets, for improved safety," Defence Minister Ignazio La Russa told Sky Italia

"My hope is that particularly in the evening, in the cities, these
troops can ensure greater safety."

The government announced on Friday that up to 2,500 soldiers, some of
whom have served in Afghanistan and Kosovo, would be made available for a trial
period of six months to bolster the police in difficult urban areas.

Silvio Berlusconi's new conservative government won an April election
on a law-and-order ticket, and crime and public safety have stayed on top of the
political agenda since Mr Berlusconi took office.

The government's decision was attacked by the centre-left opposition,
with Roberta Pinotti, defence spokesman for the Democratic party, expressing
"firm opposition to the militarisation of the streets".

Italy's main trade unions said rather than using soldiers the
government should make better use of 25,000 police who are doing desk work, and
the mayor of Turin said the move was "populist demagoguery" that would hurt
tourism and Italy's image abroad.

"I have only seen soldiers on the streets in Bogota, but there the
situation is rather different," Sergio Chiamparino told La Repubblica

Mr La Russa said he did not understand the criticism but specified that
the use of soldiers would not be permanent, with the initial six-month period
being renewable "just once."

"Very often just seeing a [soldier's] uniform can be sufficient as
prevention. I don't see what the problem is," he said.

When I was in France, back in 2002, I saw soldiers patrolling the airport, armed with machine guns. It was disconcerting.

I think Berlusconi is making a mistake here. A free people do not want the military to be patrolling the streets during a time of peace. If there is a problem, as there is in the suburbs of Paris, then a military patrol would seem necessary.

If Italy is experiencing such problems on an ongoing basis, then there is more to this story then the media is reporting.

Surprise! Iranian Regime Very Impressed With Obama Advisor Brezinski

From Gateway Pundit:

The Iranian Regime is warming up to Obama's anti-Israel
Zbigniew Brzezinski. Brzezinski is an opponent of
and has met with Syrian
leader Assad
already this year.

Earlier this week Brzezinski
advised President Bush
to stop Israel from attacking Iran.

The regime is especially impressed with Brzezinski's comments yesterday
about leaving Iran alone. The regime also think Brzezinski is spot on when he
says that the US needs to quit threatening Iran.

It sounds like Brezinski ought to be working for Iran. Or perhaps, he's more useful to them when he's working for us.

What "No Compulsion" Means

Compass Direct News brings this story from Jordan:

The North Amman Sharia Court in April dissolved the marriage of Mohammad Abbad, on trial for apostasy, or leaving Islam.

Obviously, this Islamic court is misinterpreting the tolerant nature of Islam.

Abbad and his 10-year-old son were violently attacked in their home on March 23, when relatives of another convert, staying with Abbad, stormed the house. Abbad suffered injuries to his head and chest and bleeding in his right eye, according to medical reports from Jordan University Hospital.

Note this greater cruelty:

When Abbad went to the police station the same day to file a complaint he found his father there, demanding custody of Abbad’s son and 11-year-old daughter.

Abbad's father wants to take Abbad's own children away from him. This is the life of an honest apostate in an Islamic nation: the state and your own peaceful, Muslim family turn against you.

Testifying before Khreisat the next day (March 24), Abbad refused to convert back to Islam. According to court records, Khreisat ordered Abbad to be jailed in Amman’s Jweideh Prison for one week for “contempt of court.”

Due to his injuries Abbad fainted while on his way to the jail, prompting police to send him to a hospital where he spent the night handcuffed to his bed.

Can't have such a dangerous "criminal" escape.

The exact number of Muslim converts to Christianity in Jordan is unknown. Many choose to maintain a low profile in order to avoid harassment.

That's putting it mildly.

I Never Said, "Moslems Are Stupid." Really.

Va. Mosque Joins Immigrant Fabric

The article that goes with the above photo, from the June 13, 2008 edition of the Washington Post:
Va. Mosque Reaches Out, Joining Immigrant Fabric

By Pamela Constable
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, June 13, 2008; A01

For years, the Dar al Hijrah mosque was an isolated, slightly mysterious presence in Falls Church -- a stark stone building hidden behind a row of trees, rarely visited by non-Muslims in the multi-ethnic Culmore neighborhood, and known mostly for traffic jams on Leesburg Pike as worshipers arrived for Friday prayers.

These days, the mosque bustles with visitors chattering in Spanish and Vietnamese as well as Persian and Urdu. Immigrants from a dozen countries gather there each Thursday, many with toddlers and baby strollers, to pick up donated chicken, bread, fruit and vegetables.

On weekends, the doors are thrown open for community blood drives or mental health fairs. At night, mosque officials often attend meetings at nearby churches, synagogues or social agencies, including a monthly brainstorming session called Culmore Partners.

"The average person here has had no interaction with Islam. They may even think we are the enemy, especially after September 11th," said Abdulkareem Jama, a network engineer from Somalia who is president of the mosque's board. "The more we open up and interact, the more we demystify things and seem normal to each other."

Dar al Hijrah has evolved dramatically since 2001, when it came under official suspicion amid reports that a man linked to the terror attacks in New York and Washington had visited there. This year, its glossy 25th anniversary report includes congratulatory letters from a variety of private and public institutions.

The mosque's coming out also reflects the growing cooperation between area Muslim institutions and the largely non-Muslim immigrant communities that surround them. In Culmore, the trend has brought many groups together to help immigrants who struggle with poverty, discrimination and legal problems.

Father Horace Grinnell is the pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, a longtime anchor of Culmore. Until six months ago, he had never met the leaders of Dar al Hijrah. Now, they are collaborating on a health clinic and other projects.

"There has been a quantum leap in synergy and coordination," Grinnell said. "They were painted pretty harshly after 9/11, but now they are reaching out on all fronts. We can both be a resource for people, whether they are Catholic or not."

Beyond places of worship, the evolving mosaic of shops, restaurants and offices in Culmore and several other Northern Virginia areas reflects an increasingly comfortable meld of Middle Eastern cultures with the Latin American and Asian cultures that once dominated them.

On Leesburg Pike, a Pakistani dentist's waiting room has Spanish-language and Muslim-oriented newspapers; an Arab-owned travel company books trips to Central America; and an Iranian grocery owner often chats with the Salvadoran discount furniture seller next door.

"There is harmony here," said Luis Lazo, 55, as he stopped by to greet Lida Sadahjiani in her shop stuffed with Iranian delicacies. "We don't speak the same language, but we have known each other a long time."

Just across Leesburg Pike, Ali Altaf, 35, a bank employee, was eating lunch at a Middle Eastern restaurant with his wife and children. In the window were signs in Arabic, Persian and Spanish. His waitress was a Peruvian immigrant named Emiliana Navarrete, 21.

"People here seem more knowledgeable about each other's cultures now; they are getting to know each other better," Altaf said. Navarrete showed the notepad where she had written the names of Persian dishes phonetically so she could understand telephone orders.

"Baba kanush, korma sapsi," she practiced with a laugh.

Such public familiarity has not crossed the line into many personal friendships, let alone religious conversions, local leaders said. There are only a handful of Hispanic Muslims in the area, including Farhanaz Ellis, an outreach worker at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society in Sterling.

Ellis, born to a Catholic family in Panama, said her mosque had held a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and presentations for emergency workers. Yet she seemed to have few personal ties to area Latinos and said much of her work involved explaining Islam to outside groups.

"Many people here have the misperception that Islam oppresses women and that Muslims see non-Muslims as infidels," she said. She does not try to change critics, she said, "just give them food for thought."

One area Muslim who has plunged into Hispanic issues is Mukit Hossain, a Bangladeshi immigrant in Herndon who co-founded a day-laborer center there for Latino workers. The center provoked a public outcry and was shut down last year.

Hossain said area Muslims, most of whom came to the U.S. legally, traditionally had little interest in the problems of illegal or Latino immigrants. After the terror attacks of 2001, however, they began to face public hostility and find common cause with other immigrant groups.

"What happened on 9/11 was a wake-up call for all of us," Hossain said. To those who question why he would help Hispanic laborers, he retorted, "Do they think I am a terrorist here to convert people?"

Immigration is a "human rights issue," he said. "No one from any country should be treated like an animal."

It was the threat of a crackdown on illegal immigrants that first brought Dar al Hijrah into close contact with advocacy groups. A meeting was called in Culmore to discuss how to help families in cases of raids or arrests, and mosque officials offered their premises.

"We were blown away by their hospitality. They even bought us all pizza," said Cindy Brown of Hogar Hispano, a nonprofit aid agency for Latinos on Leesburg Pike.

Mosque officials say they have no desire to push their religion on other immigrants, only to inform them about it. At community events, they set up a booth with brochures in Spanish, including a booklet on the history of Islam, women's rights and "common misinterpretations" about their faith.

"We are one community of many cultures and faiths, and we want to break down the barriers that divide us," said Mohammed Abdelilah, a manager at Dar al Hijrah. "This is nothing magic. It's not for political gain. It is for the sake of God."

At a recent food distribution in the mosque, families from Morocco, Iran, El Salvador, Vietnam, Korea, Guatemala, Pakistan and Ethiopia waited their turn. Although clustered together by language groups, they greeted each other with smiles.

Carlos Moreno, 71, an immigrant from El Salvador, said that with food prices climbing, he and his wife were grateful for the assistance and felt comfortable visiting the mosque.

"The Bible says there should be no divisions between human beings, no racism and no prejudice," Moreno said. "When we die, we all look the same. Rich or poor, black or white, we all go to the same place."
The Falls Church Mosque is located on The Wahhabi Corridor, which those aware of Islamic infiltration now call Leesburg Pike. It is a major thoroughfare.

The Falls Church Mosque is running a very clever pr campaign.

Storm Track Infiltration: Dateline UK – The Extinction of Britain

From Mark Steyn in a column at the Wall Street Journal. The real reason the West is in danger of extinction.

Radical Islam is what multiculturalism has been waiting for all along. In "The Survival of Culture," I quoted the eminent British barrister Helena Kennedy, Queen's Counsel.

Shortly after September 11, Baroness Kennedy argued on a BBC show that it was too easy to disparage "Islamic fundamentalists." "We as Western liberals too often are fundamentalist ourselves," she complained. "We don't look at our own fundamentalisms."

Well, said the interviewer, what exactly would those Western liberal fundamentalisms be? "One of the things that we are too ready to insist upon is that we are the tolerant people and that the intolerance is something that belongs to other countries like Islam. And I'm not sure that's true."

Hmm. Lady Kennedy was arguing that our tolerance of our own tolerance is making us intolerant of other people's intolerance, which is intolerable. And, unlikely as it sounds, this has now become the highest, most rarefied form of multiculturalism. So you're nice to gays and the Inuit? Big deal. Anyone can be tolerant of fellows like that, but tolerance of intolerance gives an even more intense frisson of pleasure to the multiculti-masochists.

I’d like to add a few recent examples from Britain showing its tolerance of intolerance to prove its tolerance.

Radio Discussion Of The Islamic Saudi Academy

Listen to the June 13 edition of The Gathering Storm Radio Show by CLICKING HERE.

On the air during the first half hour of the show, I brought out some of the problems with the Islamic Saudi Academy. I went back some three years to call to listeners' attention the ISA's cover-up of a driving accident involving an ISA school bus. The driver didn't even have a license to be behind the wheel!

Over the years, ISA has had several problems. Yet, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors refuses to reconsider the school's lease. Excerpt from this source:
Fairfax County supervisors said Wednesday’s report has not made them rethink their decision to renew the lease.

“We are not in a position to determine what is going to go on in a classroom there,” said Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross. “What we were asked to do was consider leasing the land and school to the Islamic Saudi Academy, and that’s what we did.”
Um, Ms. Gross? You did a lot worse than that! You played and continued to play the dhimmi. Or should I say "dhimmi wit"?

IBD: 'Supreme Court: In a historic first, the right to habeas corpus has been bestowed upon prisoners of war — in wartime. Five justices gave terrorists a new weapon to kill more Americans with: our own Constitution.'
It "will make the war harder on us," [Justice Antonin] Scalia declared, reading from the bench. "It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed."
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not traitor, he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared.”

Another Obama Endorsement

Moonbat judge opposes death penalty for convicted killers, honors mass murdering Stalinist, and supports Obama. Obama probably can hardly wait to get this Comrade on the federal bench.

"ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) — A judge in Ohio says the state's method of putting prisoners to death is unconstitutional because two of three drugs used in the lethal injection process can cause pain."

Unlike the pain his hero Ernesto "Che" Guevara caused before CIA trained Bolivian forces put the evil bastard to death. And yes, I hope The Che suffered a great deal.

Some good news to report. Of course, the MSM doesn't think this is good news, but it is.

From the Times Online:

The future of the European Union was tonight clouded in uncertainty after Ireland voted No to the Lisbon Treaty.

Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commission President, and a raft of foreign ministers expressed dismay that Ireland - the only member state to hold a referendum on the matter - chose to reject it decisively by 53.4 per cent to 46.6 per cent.

Amid wild cheers from No campaigners, the results were revealed at 5pm with 862,415 votes against and 752,451 in favour, giving a majority of 109,964 against.

Despite the result, EU leaders were tonight vowing to press ahead with ratifying the treaty.

However, the Lisbon Treaty - the reworked successor to the formal constitutional pact dumped by voters in France and the Netherlands in 2005 - officially needs the approval of all 27 EU member states, meaning the way forward for the union is now uncertain.

Mr Barroso said he believed that other states should press ahead with the ratification process. "The no vote in Ireland has not solved the problems which the Lisbon Treaty is designed to solve," he said.

Mr. Baroso, the voters of three nations have now made it clear they don't want your solution. Your continued efforts to push it despite having been rejected by the vote of the people, indicates you have no respect for the Democratic process.

But, you EU bureaucraps are not going to listen, are you?

From CNN, via Atlas Shrugs:

Politicians from the government and major opposition parties -- all of whom campaigned for the treaty's ratification -- appeared uniformly grim-faced Friday as counting progressed in 43 constituencies nationwide.

"I do not see how we're going to claw back our position based on the numbers I'm seeing. It's going pretty much all the way of the `no' camp," said Pat Rabbitte, former leader of the opposition Labour Party.

Danish Police Arrest Muslim Couple For Cutting Off Their Daughter's Clit

Denmark is the most awake of Western nations. They actually enforce their laws, and do so in the spirit of Freedom and Equality for all.

Danish police have arrested a couple of Sudanese origin suspected of taking
their two young daughters to Sudan to be circumcised.

Female circumcision usually involves the partial removal of the woman's

It is outlawed in Denmark but remains a widespread practice in Africa,
the Middle East and South East Asia.

Police said the girls, now aged nine and 11, were circumcised in 2003
during a trip to the east African nation.

The 49-year-old husband and his 40-year-old wife were arrested after
Danish social services alerted police to the fact that medical examinations
showed the two girls had been circumcised.
The couple, who deny all
wrong-doing, were also accused of having planned to take their third daughter,
aged five, to Sudan to be circumcised.

BBC Finally Deals With Beheadings In New Show: Muslim Head Lopped Off By Christian Crusader

This story can be looked at in two ways. First, one can see it as an example of the dhimmified PC, BBC attacking Christians for something they did 500 years ago which Muslims actually do today.

And second, one can look at this as the story of the BBC pissing off Muslims for showing a Muslim getting killed by a Christian.

Is the glass half-full, or half-empty?

You decide:

BBC defends Muslim beheading

Exclusive by Derek Robins - BBC bosses have defended the grisly beheading of a Muslim by a Christian zealot in new drama Bonekickers.

In the bloody scene, ex-EastEnder Paul Nicholls plays a fundamentalist who decapitates a Muslim with a sword.Producer Rhonda Smith said: "It's not meant to be shocking or to cause offence and it comes very much from the storyline."

BBC chiefs are planning to warn viewers about the gruesome beheading scene.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "It is in a 9pm slot in early July and viewers will be advised of the content immediately before broadcast."

The beheading scene comes in an episode dealing with the excavation of medieval soldiers from the time of the Crusades.

It leads to the hunt for the cross on which Jesus was crucified which the Crusaders may have brought back from the Holy Land.

Also keen to find the cross are right-wing Christian fanatics who also want to use violence to drive Muslims out of Britain.

Bonekickers could also come under fire from traditional archaeologists, warns Professor Mark Horton, a consultant on the series.

Maybe, next episode ought to be about how a group of archaologists go nuts and start beheading TV producers.

UK: Wife Sentenced To 15 Years For Failing To Disclose 7/21 Bomb Plot

From CNN:

LONDON, England (CNN) -- The wife of a would-be London train bomber was
sentenced Thursday to 15 years in jail for failing to tell police about her
husband's plan to attack an Underground station three years ago, the court and
police said.

Yeshi Girma, 31, is the wife of Hussain Osman, one of four
men seen on closed-circuit TV attempting to detonate backpacks containing
homemade explosives on three London underground trains and a bus on July 21,

Girma's sentence was handed down a day after she and her brother
and sister were convicted of assisting an offender and not disclosing
information about terrorism acts, Metropolitan Police said.

Following a
four-month trial, Girma was also convicted of having prior knowledge of the
planned attacks and failing to pass information to the authorities.

According to police, Girma actively helped her husband escape after the
failed bombings and tried to mislead the police in their inquiries to find

Her brother received a 10-year sentence and her sister received a

Osman was convicted and imprisoned for
life last year for his part in the attempted bombings.

The American definition of a Muslim is, "a person who chooses to follow Islam."

In America, we have freedom of religion, so the element of personal choice is crucial to the definition of who is and is not a Muslim.

The Islamic definition of a Muslim is, "a person who is born of a Muslim father." In Islam, there is no freedom of religion. A person who is a Muslim who chooses not to be a Muslim anymore is deemed an apostate and is subject to death.

Barack Obama was born of a Muslim father. Therefore, according to Islam, he is a Muslim. According to American values, he is what he says he is; a Christian.

It is bizarre that he won't acknowledge simple facts of the issue.

It is especially bizarre, because we are at war with a brand of Islamic Jihadism which demands that apostates be put to death.

He is, officially, an apostate of the Islamic religion. Therefore, as a prospective world leader, who could be targeted as an apostate himself, it is incumbent upon him to speak out against one of the great human rights crimes of our time.

But, he won't even acknowledge the simple fact that he is a Muslim apostate.

From Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch:

Barack Obama's new Fight the
Smears website
says flatly: "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not
raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian."

This, of course, is nothing new: it is just what his campaign has been
saying for quite some time. And that's why the mounting evidence that he was
indeed known as a Muslim in his youth in Indonesia matters -- not because of
some paranoid fantasy that Obama is a Manchurian candidate, a secret Muslim who
will tell Americans on January 20, 2009, "Surprise! I'm imposing Sharia!" (I
have never credited any of that nonsense) -- but because it raises questions
about his honesty.

If he was registered as a Muslim in school and went to Qur'an class (which
he refers to doing in one of his books), why not admit that he was at least
nominally a Muslim as a child? His conversion to Christianity, and his
now-notorious church, are well known. Perhaps he has calculated that admitting
this would cost him more in political capital than he is able or willing to pay,
but -- so does, or so should, his lack of honesty about this matter.

Daniel Pipes has gathered together the evidence for this as it stands
now. Here is some of it:

The Catholic school: Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press reports that
"documents showed he enrolled as a Muslim" while at a Catholic school during
first through third grades. Kim Barker of the Chicago Tribune confirms that
Obama was "listed as a Muslim on the registration form for the Catholic school."
A blogger who goes by "An American Expat in Southeast Asia" found that "Barack
Hussein Obama was registered under the name ‘Barry Soetoro' serial number 203
and entered the Franciscan Asisi Primary School on 1 January 1968 and sat in
class 1B. … Barry's religion was listed as Islam."

The public school: Paul Watson of the Los Angeles Times learned from
Indonesians familiar with Obama when he lived in Jakarta that he "was registered
by his family as a Muslim at both schools he attended." Haroon Siddiqui of the
Toronto Star visited the Jakarta public school Obama attended and found that
"Three of his teachers have said he was enrolled as a Muslim." Although
Siddiqui cautions that "With the school records missing, eaten by bugs, one has
to rely on people's shifting memories," he cites only one retired teacher, Tine
Hahiyari, retracting her earlier certainty about Obama's being registered as a

Koran class: In his autobiography, Dreams of My Father, Obama relates
how he got into trouble for making faces during Koranic studies, thereby
revealing he was a Muslim, for Indonesian students in his day attended religious
classes according to their faith. Indeed, Obama still retains knowledge from
that class: Nicholas D. Kristof of the New York Times, reports that Obama
"recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them [to
Kristof] with a first-rate accent."

Pipes has more, with links, at his

Melanie Phillips has been looking into all this as well, and she succinctly explains its importance:
As I have already said
-- but let me repeat very slowly for those suffering from Princess Obama
Derangement Syndrome – the concerns about Obama’s Muslim antecedents arise from
the fact that a) he has tried to conceal them and b) that he has a puzzling
number of indirect connections with radical Islamists or their supporters.

1) He has gone out of his way to support in Kenya Raila Odinga, head of
the Luo tribe, who promised to introduce sharia law if elected. Obama
interrupted his New Hampshire campaign to speak by phone with Odinga. As the
Investor’s Business Daily has reported, his half-brother Abongo ‘Roy’ Obama is a
Luo activist in Kenya and a militant Muslim who argues that the black man must
‘liberate himself from the poisoning influences of European culture’ and urges
Barack to embrace his African Muslim heritage.

Phillips has much more on this; note also that Pamela has been doing yeoman work on investigating Obama's
Kenyan connections, and has a great deal of information.

Again: if Obama had simply acknowledged that he was known as a Muslim
as a child in Indonesia, and had left Islam later, none of this (besides the
ties to the Islamic supremacists in Kenya) would be of any concern. But he has
made it a matter of concern by denying what has been affirmed by so many

The Year of the Long Knives: Part III

Guest Commentary by Edward Cline:

Describing the political climate of Weimar Germany in Hitler, 1889-1936: Hubris, Ian Kershaw notes that Germany was “a Republic without republicans.” One could just as well say that of the United States today, our republicans being of the intellectual and moral caliber of the Founders but who are entirely absent from the modern American political universe. No politician today advocates life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness; the Declaration of Independence and the original Constitution, sans the statist amendments to it, may as well be indecipherable Turkish runes.

A friend noted that while the Democrats wish to destroy the American Revolution, the Republicans seem to have forgotten it ever happened, which explains not only why they have never been able to defend it, but have been complicit in its steady destruction. Republican presidential candidate John McCain is not any kind of reactionary alternative to Barack Obama. If the current political environment can be likened to a coin, heads it is altruist, tails it is collectivist, and McCain is simply the ridged edge on its side.

Noting the appeal of Hitler early in his career, Kershaw writes:

The crowds that began to flock in 1919 and 1920 to Hitler’s speeches were not motivated by refined theories. For them, simple slogans, kindling the fires of anger, resentment, and hatred, were what worked. But what they were offered in the Munich beerhalls was nevertheless a vulgarized version of ideas which were in far wider circulation. (p. 137)
Ideas, however, notes Kershaw, “held no interest for Hitler as abstractions. They were important to him only as tools of mobilization.”

To date, has there been any measurable difference between that and what has passed for “debate” between any of the current presidential candidates? Other than the usual bromides, clichés, and populist tripe widely circulated in our schools, the news media, and in the culture in general (e.g., universal health care, taxing corporate profits, “fighting” global warming), has Clinton, Obama or McCain enunciated a single idea?

I challenge anyone to find any substance in the following excerpts from Obama’s speech to Virginia’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Richmond, on February 9:

Each of us running for the Democratic nomination agrees on one thing that the other party does not – the next President must end the disastrous policies of George W. Bush. And both Senator Clinton and I have put forth detailed plans and good ideas that would do just that.

What policies of Bush have been disastrous? What detailed plans and good ideas would end them? Would more controls and regulations of the economy correct Bush’s and Congress’s controls and regulations? Would the Democrats have fought the “war on terror” any differently from the Republicans? Would our foreign policy have meant more or less appeasement of our committed enemies? As Ayn Rand would put it: Blank out.

But I am running for President because I believe that to actually make change happen – to make this time different than [sic] all the rest – we need a leader who can finally move beyond the divisive politics of Washington and bring Democrats, Independents, and Republicans together to get things done. That’s how we’ll win this election, and that’s how we’ll change this country when I am President of the United States.
What change? Isn’t “divisive” politics a good thing, as opposed to one-party rule with no dissension or opposition permitted? Is everyone supposed to put aside his principles and convictions and mobilize for “national unity”? In all of his rhetoric, Obama employs the same appeal to emotion that Hitler employed all throughout his career. The similarities are spine-tinglingly ominous: Kershaw writes:

While Hitler basically appealed to negative feelings – anger, resentment, hatred – there was also a ‘positive’ element in the proposed remedy to the proclaimed ills. However platitudinous, the appeal to restoration of liberty through national unity, the need to work together of ‘workers of the brain and hand,’ the social harmony of a ‘national community,’ and the protection of the ‘little man’ through the crushing of his exploiters, were, to go from the applause they invariably produced, undeniably attractive propositions to Hitler’s audiences. And Hitler’s own passion and fervor successfully conveyed the message – to those already predisposed to it – that no other way was possible, that Germany’s revival would and could be brought about; and that it lay in the power of ordinary Germans to make it happen through their own struggle, sacrifice, and will. The effect was more that of a religious revivalist meeting than a normal political gathering. (p. 150, Italics mine)
There are no substantive differences between Obama’s rhetoric and Hitler’s. Or even between Hillary Clinton’s and Hitler’s. Hillary also views society as an organic whole ripe for “remodeling.” All three regard the individual as a part of that “social organism” who would be permitted his few peccadilloes but otherwise answerable to society or the State. Substitute a few appropriate words, and Kershaw’s description could just as well be of Obama’s rhetorical technique.

Are not many voters drawn to Obama’s “passion and fervor,” are they not “predisposed” to “change,” do they not want to help “make it happen”? Have so many been brainwashed and indoctrinated into believing they are “little” enough to deserve the protection and guidance of the state? Is listening to Obama a form of religious “rapture”? As for the “restoration of liberty,” what the Germans got in exchange for “helping to make it happen” certainly was not liberty. Doubtless the concept of liberty is as empty and meaningless to Obama as it was to Hitler (as it was to countless Germans).

Senator Ted Kennedy wielded his own “long knife” and stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back by endorsing Obama. Unless one thought this was Kennedy’s perverted way of bolstering Clinton’s chances, his knowing that his endorsement was the kiss of death – given Kennedy’s known reputation for collectivist elitism, venality and corruption – the endorsement made sense. If there was one way he could punish America for not going socialist at his beck and call, it was to back the man he believes could deliver on that vengeance. Kennedy’s endorsement was a major signal to other prominent Democrats that they should follow suit. And they did.

Another “kiss of death” endorsement came from ailing Fidel Castro of Communist Cuba. In a newspaper column he stated that he had “no personal rancor” toward Obama, but “if I defended him I would do a huge favor for his adversaries.” Shrewd policy. Keep the cat in the bag.

Yet another “kiss of death” endorsement came from Ahmed Yousef, a political advisor to Hamas, the terrorist organization and now government of the Palestinians, who last month opined:

We like Mr. Obama and hope that he will win the election. I do believe that Mr. Obama is like John Kennedy, a great man with great principles. He has a vision to change America, to make it in a position to lead the world community, but not with domination and arrogance.
None of these dubious endorsements has troubled Obama, the news media, or the Ivy League. One large segment of the American population that finds Obama just as compelling and attractive is academia. There are few “republicans” in this venue, but plenty of Marxists, existentialists, left-liberals, deconstructionists, and multiculturalists who also condemn the U.S.’s “domination and arrogance,” and the U.S. as a free country as a matter of habit.

“Barack Obama appears to be winning the faculty lounge straw poll – his presidential campaign is cultivating academics and pacing the field in collecting cash from them,” reported the Politico site last August in a report, “Professors have a crush on Obama.”

Obama, whose website features an ‘Academics for Obama’ page, raised nearly $1.5 million in the first half of the year [2007] from people who work for colleges and universities, according to an analysis of campaign finance data by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

In the Politico report, Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political science professor, said that Obama seems to have “a special appeal among academics, particularly those at four-year institutions. Even at places like UVA, which are more conservative than most, it’s overwhelmingly Obama.”

Sabato went on to explain that the Democrats can always count on academics to contribute money and to vote the straight Party ticket, and so are not courted as vigorously as are wealthy donors.

On April 2, Michael Barone, a political commentator, in an exhaustive analysis of the Democratic primaries, “In Terms of Geography, Obama Appeals to Academics and Clinton Appeals to Jacksonians,” provided a clue to why academics are so reliable:

Academics and public employees (and of course many, perhaps most, academics in the United States are public employees) love the arts of peace and hate the demands of war. Economically, defense spending competes for the public-sector dollars that academics and public employees think are rightfully their own. More important, I think, warriors are competitors for the honor that academics and public employees think rightfully belongs to them.

There is no need to burden most American academics with “refined theories,” either. They will settle for a vulgar slogan over a syllogism any day. They are already committed to “remodeling” and “changing” America, and have been imparting those imperatives to students for decades. Barack Obama was one of those students.

The last and fourth part of this commentary will focus on the capitalist “big money” behind Obama.

Are we more worried about enhancing our allies, or upsetting our enemies?

NSC's Hadley opposes exporting F-22s, even to close allies

East-Asia-Intel.com, June 12, 2008
White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley indicated last week that the United States remains unwilling to sell advanced F-22 jets to Japan and Israel.

Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert raised the issue of the F-22 purchase during meetings at the White House last week. The Israelis also may be interested in the F-35, which, unlike the F-22, is currently available for export.

Asked about Olmert's request, Hadley replied: "You know, there are a lot of countries who have expressed interest in the F-22. As you know, there's legislation that prevents it from being sold abroad, that's on the books."

Japan also has asked the U.S. to sell it the F-22, but the White House has balked over concerns that the transfers will upset China.

According to Japanese press reports, the Pentagon told Tokyo that before considering F-22 sales to Japan, it had to supply its war plans for China to the United States.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA), said recently that he would consider pursuing lifting the ban on F-22 exports.

"I'm a strong supporter of Israel getting all the material and equipment they need," said Berman. Asked about dropping the ban on F-22 sales, he said: "I certainly would look at it."

Old School Resource War Alert : China tests Russian submarine missile designed to sink U.S. aircraft carriers

China's Kilo submarines are now able to target U.S. warships.
China's navy recently test-fired advanced Russian Club-S anti-ship missiles from a Kilo-class submarine, the Kanwa news agency reported.

Quoting a source in the Russian naval defense industry, Kanwa said that the cruise missile tests were carried out prior to the spring 17th Party Congress as a "salute" to the event.

Three of the missiles achieved ranges of 250 kilometers. The missiles are fired from submarine tubes.

The Club is considered a highly effect anti-ship missile and is part of what the Pentagon calls China's area-denial weapons, designed specifically to attack and sink U.S. aircraft carriers and other warships that would respond to a Chinese military strike on Taiwan.

The tests involved helicopters that helped target the missiles, the report said, noting that the success of the missile firings is a sign that China's Kilo submarines are now able to target U.S. warships.

And THIS is the missile:

Club S Naval Cruise Missile
Novator experimental machine design bureau (Russia)

Club S submarine launched cruise missile family, includes the 3M-54E1 anti-ship missile and 3M-14E land attack versions, capable of striking land and naval targets from a range of 275km. The missile can be launched from standard torpedo tubes, from depth of 35 - 40 m' cruise autonomously along a selected flight trajectory and, at a speed of 240 m/sec, at an altitude of 20 meters (70 feet), and when approaching the target, drops to a sea skimming level of 5 - 10 meters (20 - 30 feet). The missile is equipped with a 400kg warhead. One of the key elements in the effectiveness of the new Club S is its active radar seeker, the Args 14e designed by Radar MMS of St. Petersburg. This 40 kg system radar system is employed in the terminal phase, less than 20km ahead of the target, to provide target detection, selection and guidance. The seeker is designed for high resistance to ECM, and is designed to operate as a single missile or in salvos firing.Russia is promoting the Amur-950 (Lada class) diesel electric submarine, armed with the Club-S cruise missile system capable of hitting underwater, surface and land targets.

NOTE THAT ONCE THE FINAL ACTIVE RADAR PHASE ENGAGES - THE MISSILE GOES TO MACH 2.5, and at that point your automated units have 27 seconds to locate, turn on and engage and defeat the incoming missile, otherwise no problem

But hey, Maybe Barry can talk them out of buying this unit.

3M-54 Klub

The Novator Design Bureau developed the Club anti-sub/ship cruise missile system [sometimes referred to as the Klub, Biryuza and Alpha/Alfa]. There is some confusion as to whether the SS-N-27 designation applies to this missile, or to the P-900 Alfa [industrial code 3M-51 ] , although the best evidence suggests that the 3M-54 Alfa is the SS-N-27, rather than the 3M-51 Alfa.

The Club missile system is designed to destroy submarine and surface vessels and also engage static/slow-moving targets, whose co-ordinates are known in advance, even if these targets are protected by active defences and electronic countermeasures.

There are two 'known' modifications of the system; Club-S (for submarines) and Club-N (for surface vessels). The Club-N can be installed in vertical launch cells or in angled missile boxes. Both systems are based on common hardware, the only difference being the design of the missile launchers and missile transport-launching containers.

Five types of missiles - 3M-54E, 3M-54E1, 3M-14E, 91RE1 and 91RE2 - have been developed for the Club ASCM. The Club-S can be armed with a 3M-54E or 3M-54E1 anti-ship missile, 3M-14E submarine-to-coast missile or a 91RE1 anti-submarine torpedo. The Club-N can be armed with a 3M-54E or 3M-54E1 anti-ship missile, 3M-14E submarine-to-coast missile or a 91RE2 anti-submarine torpedo.

The missile is 6.2 meters long, which is the same as the length of the standard torpedo tubes used by Western navies. It is designed according to the double-stage cruise scheme. The first solid-fuel stage ensures the missile's launch from a universal vertical launcher of a surface craft or from a submarine torpedo tube with a diameter of 0.533 meters.

The 3M-54E missile has a range of 300 km. For the majority of its trajectory it flies at a high subsonic speed. The first stage drops off when the missile reaches the prescribed altitude and its second stage sustainer engine goes into action. This is the time when the missile's wing and tail assembly unfold. The altitude of its flight goes down to 10-15 metres above the sea surface and the missile heads towards the target in accordance with the target designations, fed before the start into the memory of its board guidance system. The targeting on the cruise sector of the trajectory is effected by an inertia navigation system. The end sector of the missile's flight with the homing head active proceeds only five metres above the water surface. At 60 km from its target the third, solid-fuel stage separates from the missile, accelerates to supersonic speed and overcomes the defence zone of the target vessel

In spite of its relatively small launch weight of 1,570 kilograms, the missile has a range of 300 kilometres and a powerful 450-kilogram warhead, which can blow up very large surface craft. The missile's moderate weight allows even warships with a small displacement to take aboard quite a few of such deadly weapons.

India is making substantial purchases of the Novator 3M-54 Alfa missile to equip Kilo class submarines and its new frigates. The first two Indian 877YeKM submarines (Kilo class, according to NATO classification) will be armed with the latest Russian 3M-54E antiship cruise missiles. These missiles will also be fitted onto three frigates which are being built to order for the Indian navy at the Baltic shipyard in St Petersburg. Each of the frigates will carry eight antiship missiles which will be launched from vertical launch containers on the bow of the ship.

It is believed that an air-launched variant will be purchased to arm the Tu-142s currently in service and the six to eight additional aircraft being sought by the Navy. If an air-launched version of the Alfa is procured, it is anticipated that India's Tu-22M3s will eventually be equipped to fire them.

Thus Spake W.C.

Here's a comment W.C. left today in our post about the Supreme Court granting terrorists equal rights. I post it here on the front page, because I absolutely agree with him:

Maybe, if we play dead, the Muslims will leave us alone.

I'm Pissed. Pissed at Bush for fumbling this entire war.

The day after 9-11, the congress on the steps of the Capital were ready to declare war on an ideology but Bush didn't. He missed the entire boat by declaring war on a tactic - terrorism.

Did we not invade any and all countries that were either occupied or supported Nazism in WWII?

We did.

Because we were at war with an ideology.

We should have declared war on the ideology of Islamism, identified where it was, and then gone after it with all means possible. By Bush not declaring war on the ideology we are now faced with a muddle that gives constitutional rights to the enemy.

The jihadists and political Islamists are rolling on the floor in laughter at how easy it is to defeat the great Satan - with its help.

Damn it! We better wake up - and soon.

WASHINGTON—Last fall, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom asked the U.S. Department of State to secure the release of all Arabic-language textbooks used at a Saudi government school in Northern Virginia, the Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA). The Commission took this action in order to ensure that the books be publicly examined to determine whether the texts used at the ISA promote violence, discrimination, or intolerance based on religion or belief. The ISA is unlike any conventional private or parochial school in the United States in that it is operated by a foreign government and uses that government’s official texts. It falls under the Commission’s mandate to monitor the actions of foreign governments in relation to religious freedom. The government of Saudi Arabia, as a member of the international community, is committed to upholding international standards, including the obligation not to promote violence, intolerance, or hate.

The Commission requested Saudi government textbooks repeatedly during and following its trip to Saudi Arabia in May-June 2007. Shortly after the Commission raised the issue publicly, the Saudi government turned over textbooks used at the ISA to the State Department, but as of this writing, the Department has not made them available either to the public or to the Commission, nor has it released any statement about the content of the books that it received. Nevertheless, although it was unable to obtain the entire collection, the Commission managed to acquire and review 17 ISA textbooks in use during this school year from other, independent sources, including a congressional office. While the texts represent just a small fraction of the books used in this Saudi government school, the Commission’s review confirmed that these texts do, in fact, include some extremely troubling passages that do not conform to international human rights norms. The Commission calls once again for the full public release of all the Arabic-language textbooks used at the ISA.

In July 2006, the Saudi government confirmed to the U.S. government that, among other policies to improve religious freedom and tolerance, it would, within one to two years, “revise and update textbooks to remove remaining references that disparage Muslims or non-Muslims or that promote hatred toward other religions or religious groups.” The Commission is releasing this statement as the two-year timeframe is coming to an end, and with particular concern over the content of textbooks used at the ISA, in order to highlight reforms that should be made before the 2008-09 school year begins at the ISA.

Examples of Problematic Passages in Current ISA Textbooks

The most problematic texts involve passages that are not directly from the Koran but rather contain the Saudi government’s particular interpretation of Koranic and other Islamic texts. Some passages clearly exhort the readers to commit acts of violence, as can be seen in the following two examples:

In a twelfth-grade Tafsir (Koranic interpretation) textbook, the authors state that it is permissible for a Muslim to kill an apostate (a convert from Islam), an adulterer, or someone who has murdered a believer intentionally: “He (praised is He) prohibits killing the soul that God has forbidden (to kill) unless for just cause…” Just cause is then defined in the text as “unbelief after belief, adultery, and killing an inviolable believer intentionally.” (Tafsir, Arabic/Sharia, 123)

A twelfth-grade Tawhid (monotheism) textbook states that “[m]ajor polytheism makes blood and wealth permissible,” which in Islamic legal terms means that a Muslim can take the life and property of someone believed to be guilty of this alleged transgression with impunity. (Tawhid, Arabic/Sharia, 15) Under the Saudi interpretation of Islam, “major polytheists” include Shi’a and Sufi Muslims, who visit the shrines of their saints to ask for intercession with God on their behalf, as well as Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists.
The overt exhortations to violence found in these passages make other statements that promote intolerance troubling even though they do not explicitly call for violent action. These other statements vilify adherents of the Ahmadi, Baha’i, and Jewish religions, as well as of Shi’a Islam. This is despite the fact that the Saudi government is obligated as a member of the United Nations and a state party to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and other relevant treaties to guarantee the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. The statements include the following:

“Today, Qadyanis [Ahmadis] are one of the greatest strongholds for spreading aberration, deviation, and heresy in the name of religion, even from within Islamic countries. Thus, the Qadyani [Ahmadi] movement has become a force of destruction and internal corruption today in the Islamic world…” (“Aspects of Muslim Political and Cultural History,” Eleventh Grade, Administrative/Social Track, Sharia/Arabic Track, 99)

“It [Baha’ism] is one of the destructive esoteric sects in the modern age... It has become clear that Babism [the precursor to Baha’ism], Baha’ism, and Qadyanism [Ahmadism] represent wayward forces inside the Islamic world that seek to strike it from within and weaken it. They are colonial pillars in our Islamic countries and among the true obstacles to a renaissance.” (“Aspects of Muslim Political and Cultural History,” Eleventh Grade, 99-100)

“The cause of the discord: The Jews conspired against Islam and its people. A sly, wicked person who sinfully and deceitfully professed Islam infiltrated (the Muslims). He was ‘Abd Allah b. Saba’ (from the Jews of Yemen). [___]* began spewing his malice and venom against the third of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, ‘Uthman (may God be pleased with him), and falsely accused him.” (Tawhid, Administrative/Social Sciences Track, 67)
(*The word or words here were obscured by correction fluid.)

Sunni Muslims are told to “shun those who are extreme regarding the People of the House (Muhammad’s family) and who claim infallibility for them.” (Tawhid, Arabic/Sharia 82; Tawhid, Administrative/Social Sciences Track, 65) This would include all Shi’a Muslims, for whom the doctrine of infallibility is a cardinal principle.
Other problematic passages employ ambiguous language, and the textbook authors do nothing to clarify the meaning.

A ninth-grade Hadith textbook states: “It is not permissible to violate the blood, property, or honor of the unbeliever who makes a compact with the Muslims. The blood of the mu’ahid is not permissible unless for a legitimate reason…the mu’ahid is an unbeliever who contracts a treaty with a Muslim providing for the safety of his life, property, and family.” (Hadith, Ninth Grade, 142-3)
The passages about the mu’ahid are most troubling for what they leave out. They address the protected status of an unbeliever in a Muslim country, but are silent on whether unbelievers living in non-Muslim countries are afforded the same protections of “blood, property, or honor.” Such an omission, taken together with the outright incitement to violence and vilifying language noted above, could be interpreted as tacitly condoning violence against non-Muslims living in non-Muslim countries.

The Commission would urge the textbook authors to put more context into some sections of the textbooks to avoid any perception that they could be encouraging violence. For example, one passage that requires clarification is the following explication of the Koranic phrase, “Respond to God and His Messenger when He calls you to that which will give you life.” (Q 8:24)

Although this Koranic passage does not in itself invoke the term jihad, the Saudi textbook authors write:

“In these verses is a call for jihad, which is the pinnacle of Islam. In (jihad) is life for the body; thus it is one of the most important causes of outward life. Only through force and victory over the enemies is there security and repose. Within martyrdom in the path of God (exalted and glorified is He) is a type of noble life-force that is not diminished by fear or poverty.” (Tafsir, Arabic/Sharia, 68)
While there are various meanings of the term jihad, including an internal struggle of the soul, none are given in this brief discussion, which also includes an emphasis on the importance of power or force over one’s enemies and discusses “martyrdom” with approval. Such an ambiguous interpretation can be perceived as giving the verse a militant connotation, potentially justifying acts of violence, which should not be left without elucidation in a textbook that is aimed at children who are still learning the main tenets of religion.

More broadly, the analysis of the ills of the Muslim world that is offered in the ISA textbooks—that it was strong when united under a single caliph, a single language (Arabic), and a single creed (Sunnism), and that it has grown weak because of foreign influence and internal religious and ethnic divisions—is identical to some of the exclusionary ideological arguments used by extremists to justify acts of terror.

In the Commission’s view, these troubling passages should be modified, clarified, or removed altogether from the next edition of the textbooks in order to bring the books at this Saudi government school into conformity with international human rights standards.

Long-term Commission Concern over Content of Saudi Government Textbooks

The Commission has long called for Saudi Arabia to be designated a “country of particular concern,” or CPC, for its egregious and systematic violations of religious freedom. In particular, the Commission has expressed concern about the promotion of religious intolerance and religion-based violence in official Saudi government textbooks used both within Saudi Arabia and at Saudi schools abroad, such as the ISA. The Commission has been urging the U.S. government to press the Saudi government to promote religious tolerance in the Saudi curriculum since 2001, and in 2003 it issued an in-depth report about religious freedom conditions in Saudi Arabia, including intolerance and incitement to violence found in Saudi textbooks and the country’s official educational curriculum. It was not until September 2004 that the State Department first publicly expressed concern over the Saudi government’s “export of religious extremism and intolerance to other countries” at a press conference announcing Saudi Arabia’s CPC designation.

In mid-2007, the Commission visited Saudi Arabia to assess the government’s progress in implementing textbook reform and other policies. However, based on that visit and subsequent research into Saudi government textbooks, including those used at the ISA, the Commission concluded that despite some improvements, these commitments, regrettably, remain largely unfulfilled.

In every official meeting during the visit to Saudi Arabia, the Commission delegation asked Saudi interlocutors for copies of textbooks. The Saudi government’s refusal to make them available during that visit or after the Commission’s return, despite repeated requests, left the Commission with continued concerns about their content and serious questions about whether they were in fact being reformed. The Commission also sought to obtain the textbooks used at the ISA. Until the Commission drew attention to the problem at a press conference in October 2007, the ISA publicly stated on its Web site that it adhered to the official Saudi government curriculum. The Commission called for the ISA to be closed under the terms of the Foreign Missions Act until the official Saudi textbooks used at the school were made available for comprehensive public examination. Soon after the Commission released its October 2007 report, the ISA dropped the language on its Web site stating that its Arabic-language and Islamic studies curriculum “is based on the Curriculum of the Saudi Ministry of Education.” In the months following the Commission’s report, the Saudi government has also posted copies of the official 2007-2008 Saudi textbooks on the Internet.

Members of Congress, some of whom had also sought in vain to obtain official Saudi textbooks for review, have joined the Commission in expressing concern. In November 2007, Reps. Frank Wolf (R-VA), Steve Israel (D-NY), and Anthony Weiner (D-NY) introduced a resolution, H.Con.Res. 262, calling on the State Department to heed the Commission’s requests regarding the ISA and to create a mechanism to monitor implementation of the 2006 Saudi commitments to improving educational materials. Twelve U.S. Senators, led by Sens. John Kyl (R-AZ) and Charles Schumer (D-NY), wrote a bipartisan letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice the same month, echoing the Commission’s call for closing the ISA until the official Saudi textbooks used at the school were made available for comprehensive public examination in the United States.

While neither the ISA nor the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia complied with the Commission’s requests to release the school’s books publicly, the Commission did obtain some Arabic-language books currently used in the twelfth grade and a random selection of texts currently used in middle and high school classes. The Commission’s review of these textbooks found that they did contain passages justifying violence toward, and even the killing of, apostates and so-called polytheists. The texts also include highly intolerant passages about non-Sunni Muslims, such as Shi’a, Ismailis, and Ahmadis, and non-Muslims, such as Jews and Baha’is. A list of the books reviewed is appended to this statement.

The ISA and Claims of Revisions

The ISA operates as an arm of the Saudi government. The ISA’s board is chaired by the Saudi ambassador to Washington, it is located on two properties, one of which is owned, the other leased, by the Saudi Embassy, and it shares the Embassy’s Internal Revenue Service employer tax number under the name of the “Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia.” It is part of a network of 19 international schools run by the government of Saudi Arabia. The ISA distributed some textbooks during a series of open houses held for selected reporters and congressional staffers after the Commission’s press conference, but it did not make available the texts with the most problematic passages—Tawhid (monotheism) and Tafsir (Koranic interpretation)—which the Commission obtained from other sources.

Last fall, after the Commission held a press conference, ISA personnel were quoted in the media as saying that they had already revised the Saudi Ministry of Education textbooks used at the school. However, the books reviewed by the Commission in the winter of 2007-2008 show evidence of truncation, omission, cutting and pasting, and the use of correction tape or fluid to cover over text—but not sufficient revision to remove all objectionable material, as evidenced by the passages cited above. They appear to be Saudi Ministry of Education textbooks, with some alterations but with identical wording in many sections of the texts.

Bilateral and International Commitments by the Saudi Government

The Saudi government is bound by more than just its 2006 confirmation of policies with the United States. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights not only guarantees religious freedom and bans discrimination and incitement to discrimination on a number of bases, including religion; it also provides specifically that education “shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups...” The UN Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination based on Religion or Belief also bans such discrimination, which it calls “an affront to human dignity,” a “disavowal of the principles of the [UN] Charter,” a violation of international human rights law, and “an obstacle to friendly and peaceful relations between nations.” That Declaration, moreover, specifically provides that “[t]he child shall be protected from any form of discrimination on the ground of religion or belief. He shall be brought up in a spirit of understanding, tolerance, friendship among peoples, peace and universal brotherhood, [and] respect for freedom of religion or belief of others. . . .” The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Saudi Arabia is a party, contains similar provisions mandating non-discrimination and the teaching of tolerance in education. The UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination also calls on States Parties, which include Saudi Arabia, “to guarantee the right of everyone, without distinction as to race, color, or national or ethnic origin, to equality before the law” in the enjoyment of rights including “the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.”

Those provisions stand in stark contrast to the problematic passages that continue to appear in the ISA textbooks. It is deeply troubling that high school students at a foreign government-operated school in the United States are discussing when and under what circumstances killing an “unbeliever” would be acceptable. The U.S. government must ensure that the Saudi government thoroughly reviews and, as necessary, revises the books it has distributed globally. In both the UN Human Rights Council and UN General Assembly, Saudi Arabia has co-sponsored and supported repeated resolutions urging UN member states to “take resolute action to prohibit the dissemination . . . of racist and xenophobic ideas and material aimed at any religion or its followers that constitute incitement to racial and religious hatred, hostility or violence” and to “ensure that all public officials, including . . . educators, in the course of their official duties, respect different religions and beliefs and do not discriminate against persons on the grounds of their religion or belief.” The U.S. government should insist that the Saudi government meet these commitments fully as a member in good standing of the international community.

Recommendations for the U.S. Department of State

The Commission reiterates its recommendations that the State Department should:

make available all textbooks that it has received from the Saudi government, so that their content and compliance with international human rights standards can be assessed; and

promptly create a formal mechanism to monitor and encourage implementation of the Saudi government’s 2006 policies as part of every meeting of the U.S.-Saudi Arabia Strategic Dialogue, and ensure that U.S. representatives to each relevant Working Group of the Strategic Dialogue, after each session, or at least every six months, report the group’s findings to Congress.
The Commission reaffirms that governments have a clear obligation to teach tolerance, not hatred. No government should be teaching children that it is justified to kill anyone on the basis of his or her religion or belief. The Commission is seriously concerned that the Saudi government is not abiding by the policies it confirmed in 2006 to promote greater religious freedom and tolerance, including by revising its school textbooks. Obama Campaign Blog: Putting "Israel Lobby" In "Formaldehyde" Is A "Perfect Solution"

Is this what he means by "Change We Can Believe In"?

Barack Obama's campaign website is filled with the rantings of his fellow travellers, among them being virulent anti-Semites.

From Director Blue:

That crack, Internet-savvy web team at Obama Central is really on the ball. Since January 12th, 2008, an Obama campaign blog posted by a racist crackpot ("blu") has advocated a "perfect solution" for neocons and the "Israel lobby": putting them in formaldehyde.

What Israel, her Israel Lobby, and her neocons desire is to successfully
manipulate America to permit and support Israel's illegal occupation of
Palestine (which takes care of her internal enemies, the Palestinians) while
manipulating America to illegally attack any nation Israel and her Israel Lobby
sends us to attack (which takes care of her external enemies)...

...What workable plans do Israel and her Israel Lobby have for the Palestinians and peace in Palestine? The Likud/Netanyahu extremist Israelis running Israel have put the dead Palestinians in a jar of formaldehyde on the shelf - preserved dead forever......

I say the neocons have suggested their own perfect solution - we put the neocons and the Israel Lobby in formaldehyde and we put it up on a shelf and teach generations of Americans what crimes, disasters, and holocaust they have wrought upon the world, America, and the Palestinians...

Islamic Saudi Academy In Virginia: "Kill The Infidels And Take Their Property"

This is being taught by the Islamic Saudi Academy. This school is owned by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia. (Yes, the Academy is owned by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia. Click here to see the video of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Go to the May 19th "Presentaions" and watch the video. The Saudi ownership is stated right at the outset.)

Muslim children are being taught to kill you and take your property, and that message is being paid for by the Saudi Royal Family.
(Photo on right: Gerry Connolly, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors sure does look money, doesn't he? In my opinion, he smells like money too.)

Associated Press reports. They call it "troubling."

Troubling passages in texts at Va. school

McLEAN, Va. (AP) — Textbooks at a private Islamic school in northern
Virginia teach students that it is permissible for Muslims to kill
adulterers and converts from Islam
, according to a federal
investigation released Wednesday.

Other passages in the school’s textbooks state that “the Jews
conspired against Islam and its people” and that Muslims are permitted to take
the lives and property of those deemed “polytheists.”

The passages were found in selected textbooks used during the 2007-08
school year by the Islamic Saudi Academy, which teaches 900 students in grades
K-12 at two campuses in Alexandria and Fairfax and receives much of its funding
from the Saudi government.

The academy has come under scrutiny from critics who allege that it fosters an intolerant brand of
similar to that taught in the conservative Saudi kingdom. In the
review, the panel recommended that the school make all of its textbooks
available to the State Department so changes can be made before the next school

This indoctrination of children has been going on at the Islamic Saudi Academy for many years, and the AP is only now noticing it.

Our fellow Infidel, Always on Watch, attended the May 19th hearing, and reported that,

The Board Chairman also stated that those who voiced concerns about the
school were slandering the school, but that such slander came under the right of
freedom of speech. His tone was that of scolding those who had taken time from
their day to voice their concerns.

So, I wonder what the Chairman Gerry Connolly would have to say about these text books?

One has to wonder what the Saudis do for Gerry Connolly that he loves them so much. What the hell is he doing lecturing those who would be concerned? Of course, any decent American citizen ought to be concerned about the Saudis funding a school here in the United States.

In Saudi Arabia,

1) Apostates are killed

2) Women are not allowed to drive

3) Bibles are not allowed in the country

4) Jews are not allowed in the country

5) Homosexuals are killed

6) Sharia law is the Constitution of the Royal Kingdom

And, that's only the beginning. Saudi Arabia is probably the most medieval country on the face of the Earth. Of course, American citizens would be concerned. We ought to be apalled.

But, the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors scolds our friends?

Fuck him and the camel he rode in on.

Everyone pass this around. I want this info to get out. Gerry Connolly, the Chairman of Board of Supervisors had the nerve to scold American citizens who expressed concern about the Islamic Saudi Academy. In fact, one source told me he called them "bigots."

Just a week or so later, it was found that the Islamic Saudi Academy was, apparently, actively suppressing a report of child molestation:

Islamic School Searched After Abuse Allegations SurfaceAuthorities Say School's Director Didn't Report Abuse Allegations

POSTED: 3:42 pm EDT June 3, 2008UPDATED: 6:52 pm EDT June 3, 2008

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. -- Fairfax County police searched the Islamic Saudi Academy's west campus last month in connection with an investigation into child abuse allegations.

A 5-year old girl told a teacher in mid-May that her father was sexually abusing her, News4's James Adams reported. Two teachers and the principal at the west campus put together a report and forwarded it to the school's director general, Adams said.

According to court documents, the school's director, Adalla Al-Shabnan, did not believe the girl's complaint.

He later told investigators that he recommended psychological counseling for the girl after meeting with her parents.

Authorities said Al-Shabnan never reported the allegations of abuse to a child protective or law enforcement agency.

Virginia law requires abuse allegations to be reported within 72 hours.

On May 23, detectives searched and seized computers, notes and records from the school's Fairfax campus.

According to court documents, Al-Shabnan directed the original report to be deleted from the school's computers.

I wonder what Gerry Connolly, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors thinks about that? We "bigots" want to know.

I also would like to know what motivation Mr. Connolly has for aiding and abetting the Royal Saudi Embassy in the process of sustaining their lease.

Call me crazy, but I smell money. Isn't that money I smell? Anyone else smell money? I'm not sure. But, it smells like money.
