Definition of Humility and SNAKEBITTEN all in one swell foop McCain and Obama IN THAT ORDER

Perhaps you have seen Obama's personally approved ad mocking McCain's inability to use the computer.

They actually belittled him during the campaign much earlier when they derided how ancient and out of touch he was, when it came out he doesn't email or use a computer.

Let us all acknowledge that he didn't try to defend this lack of savvy, or excuse it in any way.

From the Boston Globe, March 4th, 2000:
McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.
He suffered this attack and didn't say a word.

Forget the presidency, what kind of man is silent in the face of this kind of unjust complaint and slam?
UPDATE: LGF quotes a Forbes article from 2000 which notes it's painful for him to type, but Charles the J concludes, McCain set Obama up with his comments .

Atlas Shrugs Posts Diana West Piece Professing Ignorance of the Ethnic Nationalist Roots of Filip DeWinter

Pamela and Diana West, apparently, believe that they can resurrect this argument a year later, and win by default because none of us want to get back in it.

Diana West says (and once again, Pamela posted it) that:

Dewinter, Borghezio and Strache are not "racist-fascist" leaders. They are, in their very different styles, leaders--very popular (but not in the press!) elected leaders--who are bravely combating the smugly dictatorial, entrenched, leftist establishments of Europe which, as Bat Ye'or has explained in Eurabia and elsewhere, have made common cause with the Islamic world, exchanging their Western heritage for power and oil.

Dewinter, Borghezio and Strache are all Euro-skeptics, meaning they oppose the sovereignty-gobbling European Union. Dewinter and Borghezio are doubly revolutionary in that they also represent the secessionist movements of Flanders and Nothern Italy that want independence from Belgium and Italy respectively. (Here is an astute appraisal of Lega Nord, Vlaams Belang and the trend of "localism" in Europe by my good friend Paul Belien.) "Racist"? "Fascist"?

I don't like Le Pen, who is also appearing at the September 20 event. I can't even tell you what he stands for. (Last I heard, he was effectively pro-Islamization so long as Muslims speak French, so I can't imagine what his contribution to an anti-Islamization rally might be.) Last summer in Brussels, I also interviewed Carl Lang, a member of European Parliament for Le Pen's Front National, and concluded that this political party is in total disarray, and that the 80-year-old Le Pen himself will probably have to retire before any coherent anti-Islamization movement has a chance of evolving out of the political group Le Pen will eventually leave behind. (Coincidentally, Le Pen announced this week he will effectively retire in 2010.)

Last summer, when I asked Filip Dewinter about the upcoming event in Cologne/Koln, Le Pen wasn't even on the list of invitees. I don't pretend to follow the internal machinations of the group Cities
Against Islamisation, so I can't explain how or why Le Pen came to be added to the list ...

Yes, Diana. Don't look too hard, or else you will actually come to understand more of the "internal machinations" than you would care to.

Pamela and Diana are both playing, "My right hand doesn't know what my left hand is doing."

As long as they can construct sentences which say things like, "I don't pretend to follow the internal machinations of the group Cities Against Islamisation, so I can't explain how or why Le Pen came to be added to the list ...", they can go on denying their knowledge of the Ethnic Nationalist philosophy of this movement.

Why is LePen invited?

Because he is Filip DeWinter's friend, as is evidenced by the fact that DeWinter keeps a photograph of himself and LePen on his bookshelf in his living room, where he spends time with his children. (you'll also note, right at the outset of this video, that DeWinter keeps a White Power cross on his bookshelf.)

DeWinter and LePen are tied together, and they are Ethnic Nationalists, which means that they promote the cause of keeping Europe balkanized by Ethnicity. Ultimately, this kind of political philosophy can only be enforced by laws which either limit the number of babies immigrants can have, or eliminate the immigrants through explusion, or worse.

And, by the way, there is plenty of information on the internet which will show you the links between DeWinter's party and various Nazis, and the British National Party, and David Duke.
Last fall, when this whole thing blew up (the October 2007 which Pamela references), one of the primary proponents of this movement, an odd lady named Christine Brim (who at the time headed the Center for Vigilant Freedom, the organization which organized the Belgium rally), openly called for alliances between the counter-Jihad movement and the British National Party.

The leader of the BNP is Nick Griffin, who is a Holocaust denier. Rare in the Ethnic Nationalist movement, Griffin does have the gift of subtlety, but other leaders of his party have repeatedly and often called for a "white Britain."

US and European Media Disingenuous On Obama

When Obama made his famous jibe about "lipstick on a pig", his audience went wild with giddy and appreciative applause. The "lipstick meme" had been firmly attached to Sarah Palin the week previously, when the Alaska governor explained that "the only difference between a pit bull and a hocky mom, is lipstick." The lipstick meme had circulated widely, and political audiences understood the unspoken allusion immediately. That is what made them so giddy.

Because Obama supporters are worried. They are worried that the tracks for Obama's magic messiah-train to the White House have been undermined by the deeper magic of Sarah Palin--authenticity.
Sarah Palin makes me sick. I hate that she was able to steal Barack Obama's mojo just by showing up wearing rimless glasses and a skirt. _Source
And somewhat like a canny American football player who fouls an opposing player out of sight of the official, in order to elicit a retaliation that the official does see--and penalizes--Obama protested that his remark was entirely innocent of reference to the lady governor. Obama is a gentleman, after all. Would a gentleman be so crude and crass? And would the audience of a gentleman take such obvious pleasure in a gutter joke? Surely not.

Only--the public sees through Obama and his media excusers. In fact, the public is slowly growing aware that the US ABC News company purposely edited out portions of Governor Palin's replies in a recent interview with Charlie Gibson. That is the type of double dealing that is certain to make Americans very angry with news media. Such duplicity brings back strong memories of CBS' Dan Rather's "fake but accurate" fictitious national guard memoes meant to derail Bush's candidacy four years ago. Very bad style, boys, very bad style. It's apt to reach back and bite you in an embarassing place.

UK: Sharia Law Now Officially Sanctioned

From Gandalf at Up Pompeii:

Gandalf comments: So it has come to this, Sharia law is now part of the British legal system, now it is just a question of time and we will start seeing stoning and public decapitations.

Of course the Muslim population will say this will not happen in the UK but you can bet your bottom Dollar it will, you cannot cherry pick Sharia law.

Do I exaggerate I hear you say, I think not, the fact that the decisions of these stone age courts will be upheld by the legal system in this country demonstrates the amount of submission to Islam that exists in our Government and Judiciary, they will not challenge the introduction of public beheadings or stonings.

the libertarians who have over the years campaigned and promoted the Religion of Peace had better look out because they too will fall foul of this abominable form of "justice", indeed they could be amongst the first to feel its edge when it achieves prominence.

Here is the article:

First UK Sharia court up and running in Warwickshire

A MUSLIM college in Warwickshire is running the UK's first official sharia law court.

The Muslim Arbitration Tribunal has used sharia law to settle more than 100 civil disputes between Muslims across the UK since it opened last December.

The tribunal, which runs along side the British legal system, was set up by scholars and lawyers at Hijaz College Islamic University in Watling Street, Nuneaton.

The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips, recently said there was no reason why sharia law, derived from several sources including the Koran, could not be used for contractual agreements and marital disputes.

Cases already heard in Nuneaton include an inheritance dispute between three sisters and their two brothers, a divorce and a neighbour dispute.

In the inheritance case, the men were given double their sisters' inheritance.

Pastorius note: If you thought Gandalf was exaggerating in the orange letters above, you can see that already England is willing to bend over and submit to Islam when it comes to women's rights. And, women's rights are human rights.

The Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Dr Michael NazirAli, who was born in Pakistan and has both a Christian and Muslim family background, said he was concerned that people might feel coerced into accepting sharia arbitration.

Dr Nazir-Ali, who converted from Islam to Christianity, warned that recognising the tribunals could lead to discrimination, particularly against Muslim women.

The Muslim Arbitration Tribunal operates in tandem with the British legal system, and decisions challenged by the losing party will be upheld by a county court bailiff or high court sheriff.

The Nuneaton tribunal cannot force anyone to come within its jurisdiction. But once someone agrees to settle a dispute at the tribunal, he or she is bound in English law to abide by the court's decision.

Mr Siddiqi said: "As long as the parties have submitted to the tribunal's jurisdiction, a county court bailiff or high court sheriff can enforce our decisions.

"If the losing party objects, the winning one has to apply to the county court or high court who will enforce the tribunals' decisions, as long as they are reasonable.

"What we decide will be upheld by the British courts as long as both parties agree to submit to our jurisdiction in the first place."

The Trade-Off

Guest Commentary by Edward Cline:

The rational among us are anxiously debating whom to vote for in November. From one perspective on the current race for the White House, we are faced with a choice of which devil to cut cards with (to paraphrase Wellington at Waterloo).

Do we vote for John McCain, who may or may not be better than George W. Bush in foreign policy and in adopting a semi-rational attitude toward America’s dedicated enemies, but who is “pro-American” in the same sense that Mussolini was “pro-Italian” and Hitler was “pro-German,” that is, in an un-American, nationalistic, service-to-your-country-in-a-higher-cause-than-yourself way, which implies the partial or wholesale regimentation of the American population to combat the bogeyman of the moment?

Do we vote for Barack Obama, whose anti-American, anti-military, anti-freedom, serve-your-country-until-you’re-flat-broke-and-living-in-penury-for-a-cause-higher-than-yourself solution to all problems, foreign and domestic, might mellow once he is in office and is handed one morning the intelligence reports from the various security agencies on what our enemies (including Russia and China, not just the Islamists) are up to vis-à-vis tightening the noose around America’s neck? Or would he just grimace and think: We brought it upon ourselves.

Do we vote for McCain, whose “patriotism” would compel Americans to “give back” what they were never given, and who may or may not give the rational among us half a fighting chance to spread the word of reason? Would the Ayn Rand Institute and other pro-freedom organizations be safely sidelined by his domestic policies? Would conservative talk-show hosts be any more secure against censorship or persecution than under an Obama administration? Both candidates are preeminently anti-conceptual mentalities, but this does not mean they would not be aware of the peril of freely expressed ideas or organized opposition, and search for some means to squelch, silence, punish or harass the recalcitrant.

Do we vote for McCain, whose election might stave off another attack on America, because our Islamic enemies (Ahmadinejad of Iran, the Saudis, et al.) just might possibly believe that he would bomb Iran’s nuclear power facilities, or give the Israelis the go-ahead to do it themselves (Israeli intelligence on Mideast matters being vastly more informed than the CIA’s or the NSA’s)? Would McCain’s election give the Islamists pause? Or would they strike before Cindy McCain had time to redecorate the Oval Office?

Do we vote for Obama, whose election most assuredly would guarantee another attack on this country soon after his inauguration, just to test his professed “love” of America? Or would our enemies be ferally intelligent enough to realize that he would destroy it for them, stay their hand, and settle for ramping up their cultural jihad, knowing that Obama would applaud it in the name of multicultural diversity? It is not for nothing that the Muslim world approves of his candidacy and more or less has remained mum about his alleged apostasy.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of Russia, of course, macho dictator that he is, would have Mr. Change that Matters for lunch, and use Senator Joe Biden as a serviette. Would Obama be a diplomatic match for the heavyweight thug of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, or Snake Eyes Ahmadinejad? It is indicative of the world’s hostility for America that every dictator, sheik and “social democrat” is hoping for an Obama presidency and the chance to stick it to this country even more, knowing that Obama would contritely claim that America deserved it, as a kind of reparations for what the U.S. has done to the world. Like save it twice at great cost in lives and treasure, and after that act as the world’s selfless policeman and “democracy” builder, also at great cost in lives and treasure.

McCain may or may not choose to go head to head with America’s enemies. Obama is not likely to want to butt heads with anyone. McCain’s brand of patriotism is similar to Teddy Roosevelt’s, whose political shenanigans gave us the father of all servitude, Woodrow Wilson.

When one studies side-by-side photos of McCain and Putin, one sees a similar, power-hungry glint in their eyes. One may legitimately suspect that the “reform” McCain promises is not so much of government, but of the American people. No, he does not believe in compulsory national service, but one may be sure of penalties if one does not “volunteer” for it. His vision of Americans united in a single cause differs in no fundamental from Obama’s, except in the path on which each wishes to lead them, “reformed” or “changed”: socialism with fascist overtones, or socialism for the sake of gutting the country of the remnants of its individualism and liberty.

So, the question is: Between the two candidates, where is the trade-off? What smidgen of the benefit of one’s doubts should one grant McCain and hope against hope that his administration would not be as disastrous and destructive as Bush’s? On what evidence can one hope against hope that Obama would “grow up” in the Oval Office and see the error of his ways?

The answer may depend in one’s estimation of how much one can bear the consequences of either candidate reaching the White House – coupled with how well one can second-guess. This much is certain, however: Politically speaking, whichever candidate is sworn into office next January, America is in for times rougher than those of the Great Depression.

9/11/08 Attack On Chunnel Train Between France and England? UPDATED

Fire started on lorry (1) just before 1500 BST on train from Folkestone to Calais. Lorry drivers heard series of explosions. They broke windows (2) to get out of amenity car. Altogether 32 people, including seven Britons, were evacuated into service tunnel (3).

UPDATED AT TOP: It looks to me as if parts of this story are, possibly, being disappeared. An anonymous commenter left me a quote from a CNN story which included the following sentence:
"“There was a burning lorry and a series of explosions — about 20 of them,” he told Le Parisien newspaper."

When I looked the story up on Google, here's what I found.

The story that Google linked to included no reference to explosions.

However, the original CNN story still exists here on a page called FindTarget/CNN. And, here's the story quoted:

Earlier on Friday truckers described their lucky escape from the blaze in which they had to smash windows to escape from the train after the doors jammed shut.
"There was a burning lorry and a series of explosions -- about 20 of them," Patrick Lejein, 50, from Bruges in Belgium, told Le Parisien newspaper.
"Everything was exploding around us -- tyres, fuel tanks, and then there was this smoke which prevented us from seeing and breathing properly."
Lejein added: "The door of our carriage was locked, impossible to open. We had to save ourselves by smashing a window with a hammer.
"We escaped from the train through this window. It was at that moment that we panicked the most. We imagined ourselves trapped there. We really were very lucky."

There have been so many questionable incidents recently that I think we must recap:

The other evening, I was sitting in a park with my daughter, and suddenly a fighter jet came roaring over our heads. It had been scrambled to fly a mission above Disneyland. I watched as it circled several times.

This was a regular occurrence in the couple years after 9/11. I got very used to the roar of fighter jets over Disneyland, over ballgames, and over my offices in Burbank near the movie studios.

I got used to being told to clear our of the office because there had been report of a possible attack. But, in recent years, things have, seemingly, calmed down, and I haven't heard the roar of fighter jets for quite some time.

But, have things really calmed down? No, they have not. Not in the least.

Just in the past few weeks, we have seen a homeless Muslim man check into a posh hotel with a pound of cyanide. For what purpose we will never know, because the guy ended up dead, thank God, before he could put his poison to use.

We have seen an Egyptian man build and test an unmanned drone, on Long Island, NY, capable of carrying a 600 lb. payload of chemical/biological weapons. We have seen men convicted in the UK for trying to kill the Queen and members of the Royal Family.

We have seen a man chanting Allah Akbar on a Philadelphia subway train, as he methodically showed his three year old boy how to kill Infidel pigs, by burying a hammer in the head of his victim.

And then, there were the unidentified men in St. Louis, who decided to go into work on their day off and play with the chemical nitroaniline. They ended up beoming poisoned, which caused them to turn blue. Over the next few hours, they began showing up at the hospital, causing two facilities to go on complete lockdown.

Additionally, as we know, Iran is speeding along to their goal; creating the Apocalypse so that the Mahdi (Isamic Messiah) will return to establish Islam througout the Earth.

So, we can not forget, because, while we have avoided another 9/11, it isn't for lack of trying on the part of the followers of Allah.

They would still like nothing better than to kill us, to sacrifice us to their bloodthirsty god.

We can not forget because they keep reminding us.

The rest of this post is from 9/12/08

Yesterday, (yes, on 9/11) I read of a fire that broke out on the "Chunnel" train which goes underneath the channel stretching between France and England.

A fire on 9/11, huh? I wondered if it could have been terror-related. However, the news as of yesterday was very spare on details. And so, I did not post on the story.

Now, we find that the drivers of the train report having heard multiple explosions. This bit of information seems to have driven officials to proclaim the incident

Got it. Thanks. Explosions = not terror-related.

It was carrying the chemical phenol, a toxic product used by the pharmaceutical industry.
Even more worrying, the overturned truck/lorry reportedly contained phenol, a deadly chemical that isn't allowed to be transported through the tunnel. The people who are reportedly in the hospital for smoke inhalation could have inhaled this chemical as it burned. According to Wikipedia, the toxic chemical was used in the Second World War at Auschwitz as a means of rapid execution. Seeing as the fire happened on September 11th, there are some obvious concerned about whether this was truly an accident.

From the BBC:

Thousands of passengers hoping to travel through the Channel Tunnel face further disruption after a fire.

Both the tunnel operator Eurotunnel and Eurostar have said passengers with travel plans for Friday night and the weekend should find alternative routes.

The tunnel was closed after fire broke out on a freight train about seven miles from Calais on Thursday.

Thirty-two people on board were led to safety. Fourteen had suffered minor injuries, including smoke inhalation.

The 16-hour blaze was put out on Friday morning.

The source of the blaze has not yet been identified but French officials say a lorry carrying chemicals, which is understood to have overturned on the freight train, was close to the seat of the fire.

It was carrying the chemical phenol, a toxic product used by the pharmaceutical industry.

Eurotunnel chairman Jacque Gounon - who earlier said they hoped to return to half capacity during Friday - said the north tunnel, where the fire took place, would be closed for several weeks.

The BBC's Europe editor, Mark Mardell, said Mr Gounon would not speculate on the cause of the fire, saying only that nothing had been ruled out or in.

He added an investigation could only begin once the affected area had cooled down enough to enable the removal of the train.

France's transport minister Dominique Bussereau told French radio station Europe-1 the cause appeared to be "something accidental".

Exhausting conditions

The blaze broke out yesterday just before 1500 BST on a train carrying lorries from Folkestone to Calais.

Thirty-two people, including seven Britons, were evacuated to the service tunnel and a train ferried them to France. More than 300 French and British firefighters tackled the blaze overnight and some 27 vehicles were affected.

Chief Fire Officer Bill Feeley, of Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said a large crew had been needed because of the difficult and tiring conditions and would remain in place until the emergency services were satisfied the fire was completely extinguished.

A French police spokesman said the main seat of the fire was extinguished at 0700 BST after burning for more than 16 hours.

Firefighters then spent two hours smothering minor fires nearby, he said.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has now said they were "scaling down" their efforts. Two fire engines were still at the scene with 12 firefighters and specialist crews, a spokeswoman said.

"The bi-national status of the operation was lifted at midday so it is now a French incident," she said.

If "Death to Infidels" And "Death to America" Are Ok, Why Not Death to Muslims?

"A video game made by an Australian man that encourages players to massacre Muslim people has caused international outrage. "Muslim Massacre" is promoted as taking place after the US "declares war" on the religion of Islam and encourages players to wipe out followers.

"The United States of America has declared war on Islam!" the Muslim Massacre website says. "Take control of the American hero and wipe out the Muslim race with an arsenal of the world's most destructive weapons."

The targets appear as bearded men wearing normal clothes or characters in black outfits with facemasks. Later levels include suicide bombers and a "boss" opponent resembling Osama Bin Laden.
Mr Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the UK Muslim youth organisation the Ramadhan Foundation, said the game was unacceptable, tasteless and deeply offensive.

Storm Track Disinformation: A Good Grasp Of the Obvious

I’m shocked !! SHOCKED !! Shocked that this is happening.

Hindu and Sikh leaders have accused the BBC of pandering to Britain's Muslim community by making a disproportionate number of programmes on Islam at the expense of covering other Asian religions.

A breakdown of programming from the BBC's Religion and Ethics department, seen by The Independent, reveals that since 2001, the BBC made 41 faith programmes on Islam, compared with just five on Hinduism and one on Sikhism.

Critics say the disproportionate amount of programming is part of an apparent bias within the BBC towards Islam since the attacks of 11 September 2001.
Gee. You think?

BRITAIN is set to be the target of a September 11-style atrocity, Muslim fanatics were told at a meeting in London.

And they cheered as exiled preacher Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed ramped up the hatred via video link from his hideaway in Lebanon.

The 100 devotees packed into a community centre in Walthamstow heard leaders of the outlawed Al Muhajiroun sect describe Osama Bin Laden as a hero who had taught the Americans a lesson seven years ago.

The meeting, to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on New York, was told that the “Crusaders” had not learned their lesson.

“Wake up. Withdraw. Listen to the warnings. Muslims will stand side-to-side, not just Al Qaeda. The actions of the British and Americans have given prominence to Al Qaeda. All of us have a part to play in stopping the violence or the next 9/11 will take place in Britain and the next 7/7 could take place locally.”

Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed’s former right-hand man Anjem Choudary told how the banned cleric’s aim of flying the “flag of Sharia” over Downing Street would become reality by 2020.

And fanatics chanted “God is great” when the former leader of Al Muhajiroun appeared via video link. Much of his speech on Wednesday was inaudible because of technical difficulties but he claimed Britain was trying to assassinate him and he had foiled a bomb plot

Yesterday he told the Daily Express: “I don’t understand what moderate Muslims have against Bin Laden.”

He dismissed the murder of more than 2,000 people on 9/11 as “just an event”.

“Osama Bin Laden is a great personality and a legendary person for Muslims around the world,” he said. “He is a man who stands firm against imperialism, against America’s vile policies in the Middle East and in Iraq, and so he has become a real hero for Muslims worldwide.

“Anyone who denies that is either not a Muslim or is a hypocrite.”

Iran will support Hamas until collapse of Israel ... say, isn't that Shia AND Sunni?

I have been told authoritatively that this is impossible
Perhaps those authorities might wish to reassess, and consider the strategic meaning of the shia of Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood sunni salafists of HAMAS working together with little apparent problem? NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH !

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed Friday to keep supporting the Palestinian militant group Hamas until the "collapse of Israel."
Well, I mean since Israel is on an islamic waqf, land consecrated for muslim occupation until doomsday, I guess, ole dinner jacket really has no choice, does he? But I am sure FATAH has no such ideas, right Condi?

The Iranian news agency Khabar quoted Ahmadinejad as telling Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh that Iran views the support of the Palestinian people as part of its religious and national duty and that Iran will stand behind the Palestinian nation "until the big victory feast which is the collapse of the Zionist regime."
Say how are those P-2 centrifuges coming along. You wouldn't be thinking about sliding a crude fission contraption to HAMAS or anything, would you? I mean, you wouldn't USE them like that, would you?

Ahem....Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin on Thursday said the United States shouldn't "second guess" steps taken by Israel to secure itself, not only that, SHE DIDN'T BLINK !! OMG!! The horror ! Even worse, she expects the USA to live up to NATO obligations ! OMG !!

In a phone conversation between the two leaders (HAMAS AND IRAN), the Iranian president said that the continued Hamas resistance against Israel and the group's achievements would always be "a source of pride for all Muslims."
Achievements? You mean like this?

Yes, this is a cultural achievement worth pride, the purposeful murder of old people praying as a strategic and tactical goal of a "state's" effort. Yes, these old jews are worth knocking out a squadron of F-15's, right? Of course we have to remember that the past PM, Rafsanjani and many of his contemporaties remain wanted for murder in Argentina.

Iran does not acknowledge the sovereignty of Israel and vowed to support Hamas until what Ahmadinejad calls "deliverance from Zionists (Israel)."

Haniyeh, the leader of the Islamist Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, was elected Palestinian prime minister in 2006, but was dismissed in June 2007 by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, after Hamas violently seized control over the Gaza Strip from Abbas' Palestinian Authority.

Dutch To Crack Down On Burqas In Schools And Public Places

Sweet, lovely, brutal intolerance.

From the Telegraph:

The Dutch government is to extend a ban on the burka to all schools, a measure that includes a prohibition on Muslim mothers from picking their children while wearing face-covering Islamic dress.

By Bruno Waterfield in Brussels
Last Updated: 3:55PM BST 09 Sep 2008

Ronald Plasterk, the Dutch education minister, announced that the ban would apply to all schools, including private Muslim religious establishments, and their immediate surroundings.

Not only teachers, but parents and all visitors to schools, including suppliers making deliveries, will be forbidden the burka, even though only 100 women in the Netherlands, out of a population of 16.5 million, are estimated to wear it.

Legislation is expected to be agreed by the Dutch parliament next year.

Mr Plasterk has cited security concerns and the need for teachers and schoolchildren to be able to communicate properly with each other.

"It is important for children to learn that proper communication requires being able to look the other person in the eye," he said to Dutch MPs.

The legendary tolerance of the Dutch has been tested by years of controversy over the burka and radical Islam in the Netherlands.

Local authorities are now expected to follow the government ban by extending restrictions on Islamic dress to council buildings and public transport.

The burka, also known as a Niqab, is a wide dress covering the entire body, hair and neck face of a woman, leaving only a slit for the eyes.

The Dutch ban will not apply to the more common Hijab headscarf, where a woman's face is clearly visible.

Constitution Day at K-State

The Constitution of the United States was signed by the framers and presented to the states for ratification on September 17, 1787. In commemoration of this historic event Congress in December 2004, apparently without conscious irony, declared September 17 as Constitution Day. Kansas State University has scheduled three days of activities for Constitution Day. Reading the announcement, one doesn't know whether to laugh or cry:

A Constitution Day booth will be available from noon to 1 p.m. all three days outside the food court at the Union. At the booth, people can test their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution with a special quiz, pick up a booklet-size copy of the Constitution and get a special "I Love the Constitution" button, while supplies last.

Activities Tuesday, Sept. 16, will include a special presentation in K-State's Dorothy L. Thompson Lecture Series on Civil Rights at 6:30 p.m. in the Union's Forum Hall. The presentation will be a panel discussion on racial profiling, featuring Danielle Dempsey-Swopes, executive director of the Kansas African-American Affairs Commission; Steve Cisneros, executive director of the Kansas Hispanic and Latino-American Affairs Commission; and Judges Henry W. Green, Richard Greene and Nancy L. Caplinger of the Kansas Circuit Court of Appeals. Panel moderator will be Kyle Smith. The presentation will be free and open to the public.

Instead of having a panel on the meaning and underlying philosophy of the Constitution, there is a discussion on the politically correct issue of the moment. This is consistent with the concrete bound mentality the university seeks to inculcate. Instead of focusing on the clear and present dangers to our rights, the ever growing power, reach, and scope of government at all levels, students will get to hear the standard race, class, gender litany.

As an example of this threat to Constitutional liberties one need go no further than Executive Order #13432 promulgated by President Bush in May 2007. This decree purpose is "“to ensure the coordinated and effective exercise of the authorities of the President and the heads of the [DOT], the Department of Energy, and [EPA] to protect the environment with respect to greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles, nonroad vehicles, and nonroad engines . . ." in accordance with a Supreme Court ruling the previous month, April 2007 (more here on this power grab). Is there any doubt that K-State's panel of legal experts would be in favor of this unconstitutional take over of transportation and food production by the EPA?

Speaking of "climate change," the weather here in Kansas has been unseasonably cold, wet and cloudy. I think there is a man-made reason for this. We are enduring a Smug Alert. An example of the "progressive" smugness that the rest of us in Manhattan, Kansas endure is the "Movies on the Grass" farce I wrote about earlier this week.

The administration is serious about getting as many people to attend this weekly, leftist documentary film indoctrination as possible. On every table in the cafeteria and library are announcements for "Movies on the Grass." The sub-title for the event in these advertisements is ... drum roll please ... "Movies with a Conscience." Classic leftist, elitist terminology. Rest assured that if you think that in the name of genuine balance documentaries such as Obsession or June Arunga's The Devil's Footpath or Border Wars or The Stoning of Soraya M. or Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life should also be screened, then you are a doubleplus crimethinker. You are not a person of conscience and will not get invited to the right wine-and-cheese parties, much less search committees.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone show the connections between, and costs of, smugness, parties, and being on the "right" side of issues, any issue.

Saudi Issues A TV Fatwa

Graphic: The Fatwa Pig

From this source, on the business page of Yahoo! News, on September 12, 2008:
Top cleric in Saudi judiciary: it's OK to kill owners of TV networks airing 'immoral content'

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- Saudi Arabia's top judiciary official has issued a religious decree saying it is permissible to kill the owners of satellite TV networks that broadcast immoral content.
In the past, Al-Lihedan called upon Saudis to fight against American forces in Iraq. Now he's moved his jihad-by-fatwa to the media.

Will Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal find himself under the shadow of a fatwa? After all, the prince owns Rotana, the most popular of the Arabic satellite networks.

Anyway, just wait until more Moslems invest in Western satellite systems. Censorship will take center stage.

And think of all the shows you like, the shows that you will no longer be able to watch. Remember: Sayyed Qutb found the crooners' song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" immoral. The Moslem perception of immorality differs from that of the West's.

Another reason to be sure we infidels win!

2007: Chevron Shouldn't Play Russian Roulette
To truly grasp the risk and liability posed by Chevron's possible acquisition of Yukos assets, take a look at the history of the Kremlin's campaign. In a few short years, Russia's largest private taxpayer and most successful and well managed oil company, Yukos, has been brought to the brink of ruin, all because Khodorkovsky made two "mistakes." First, he got involved in politics through the support of opposition parties and civil society NGOs. Second, he threatened state-owned energy companies by out-competing them, advocating a free market for the Russian energy industry and welcoming investments by U.S. partners, such as ExxonMobil and, ironically, Chevron

As of 2004, Khodorkovsky was the wealthiest man in Russia, and was the 16th wealthiest man in the world, although much of his wealth evaporated because of the collapse in the value of his holding in the Russian petroleum company YUKOS.

On October 25, 2003, Khodorkovsky was arrested at Novosibirsk airport by the Russian prosecutor general's office on charges of fraud. Shortly thereafter, on October 31, the government under Vladimir Putin froze shares of Yukos because of tax charges. The Russian Government took further actions against Yukos, leading to a collapse in the share price. It purported to sell a major asset of Yukos in December 2004.

Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Kazakhstan on Thursday on his first trip abroad as Russia's new president, reaffirming Moscow's push to control the flow of energy from the Central Asian region.

Kazakh Oil: A War of Nerves

Even before the Georgia mini-war, Russia was playing for keeps in the region. Starting in the 1990s, Russia often got its way by manipulating its oil and natural gas pipelines, which, despite the West’s efforts, still dominate Caspian output. Russian pipelines ship more than 85% of the 6.3 million barrels of oil exported daily from the former Soviet Union. In its struggles with the republics, Russia has turned its spigots off and on repeatedly. In 1993, for instance, Moscow shut off Turkmenistan’s gas exports to the West, forcing the Turkmen to sell at a lower price to Ukraine.

Kazakhstan has been the biggest prize of all. It didn’t look that way in the Soviet Union’s last days, when the flow of money from Moscow slowed considerably, and Kazakhstan had to take out a loan to feed its cattle. It had Tengiz, with at least 9 billion barrels of reserves, plus 13 billion-barrel Kashagan, the largest oil discovery anywhere in 40 years. Yet it was still hard to picture how a territory lacking a single private office building, in which the biggest business was importing Coke and whiskey, would become a petro-state.

BTW? Kazakhstan harasses it's Christians

Is Pakistan Playing Games?

Things become frustratingly complex and confusing when so many Muslims are enthusiastic practitioners of taqiyya. In an earlier post, Personal Reasons Are Important, I pointed out that the new leader of Pakistan seems personally committed to removing Jihadis from his country.

On the other hand, in this excellent (very long) article in the New York Times (thank you, WC at Gathering Storm), I gained a new appreciation for the complexity of this problem. Some Pakistanis seem authentically committed to removing the Jihadis (but maybe some of them are only pretending), while others are clearly double dealing.

So whether or not Asif Ali Zardari is sincere, he may be unable to effectively fulfill his intentions. We shall see. Explaining why the Pakistani military sometimes cooperates with the Taliban, Dexter Filkins, the author of the New York Times article, wrote:
Another explanation is growing popular hatred of the United States. Pakistan’s leaders — whether Musharraf or the army chief, Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, or the country’s leading civilian politicians — are finding it more and more difficult to mobilize their own army and intelligence services to act against the Taliban and other militants inside the country. And while the Pakistan Army used to be a predominantly secular institution, increasingly it is being led by Islamist-minded officers.

The pro-Islamist and anti-American sentiments pervading the armed forces might help explain why a group of ill-trained, underpaid Pakistani Frontier Corps soldiers would open fire on American troops fighting the Taliban. Those same sentiments buttress the notion, offered by some American and Pakistani officials, that rogue officers inside the army and ISI are supporting the militants against the wishes of their superiors.

Finally, there is the problem of the Pakistan Army’s competence. For all the myths that officers like Musharraf have spread about the institution, the simple fact is that it isn’t very good. The Pakistan Army has lost every war it has ever fought. And it isn’t trained to battle an insurgency. Each of the half-dozen offensives the army has launched into the tribal areas since 2004 has left it bloodied and humbled.
Dexter Filkins interviewed a man with an insightful perspective. Filkins wrote:
One sweltering afternoon in July, I ventured into the elegant home of a former Pakistani official who recently retired after several years of serving in senior government posts. We sat in his book-lined study. A servant brought us tea and biscuits.

Was it the obsession with India that led the Pakistani military to support the Taliban? I asked him.

“Yes,” he said.

Or is it the anti-Americanism and pro-Islamic feelings in the army?

“Yes,” he said, that too.

And then the retired Pakistani official offered another explanation — one that he said could never be discussed in public. The reason the Pakistani security services support the Taliban, he said, is for money: after the 9/11 attacks, the Pakistani military concluded that keeping the Taliban alive was the surest way to win billions of dollars in aid that Pakistan needed to survive. The military’s complicated relationship with the Taliban is part of what the official called the Pakistani military’s “strategic games.” Like other Pakistanis, this former senior official spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of what he was telling me.

“Pakistan is dependent on the American money that these games with the Taliban generate,” the official told me. “The Pakistani economy would collapse without it. This is how the game works.”

As an example, he cited the Pakistan Army’s first invasion of the tribal areas — of South Waziristan in 2004. Called Operation Shakai, the offensive was ostensibly aimed at ridding the area of Taliban militants. From an American perspective, the operation was a total failure. The army invaded, fought and then made a deal with one of the militant commanders, Nek Mohammed. The agreement was capped by a dramatic meeting between Mohammed and Safdar Hussein, one of the most senior officers in the Pakistan Army.

“The corps commander was flown in on a helicopter,” the former official said. “They had this big ceremony, and they embraced. They called each other mujahids. ”

“Mujahid” is the Arabic word for “holy warrior.” The ceremony, in fact, was captured on videotape, and the tape has been widely distributed.

“The army agreed to compensate the locals for collateral damage,” the official said. “Where do you think that money went? It went to the Taliban. Who do you think paid the bill? The Americans. This is the way the game works. The Taliban is attacked, but it is never destroyed.

“It’s a game,” the official said, wrapping up our conversation. “The U.S. is being taken for a ride.”
It is insidious. It is maddening.

The regular practice of deceit by Jihadis makes the whole situation impossibly difficult for both non-Muslims and Islamic apatheists.

The apatheists, who would just as soon go on about their business and ignore Islamic teachings that urge them to prove their faith with jihad (while still wanting to call themselves Muslims) are in a difficult position. The non-Muslim world cannot trust them until they prove over time they are trustworthy, and maybe not even then. But if the apatheists want to declare their apostasy and reject Islam, they put their lives (and their families' lives) in danger because the Islamic penalty for apostasy is death. Most of them have not chosen to be Muslims. They were brought up that way.

And it is equally difficult, if not more so, for non-Muslims. With over a billion Muslims in the world, that's a lot of people to distrust. And yet only a fool (or someone who knows nothing about taqiyya) would trust a Muslim who has not proven himself trustworthy. For simple survival, we had better look upon all Muslims with suspicion. But who wants to live this way? On the other hand, who wants to die a fool?

There is no simple solution, no easy answer. We struggle to come to grips with it like we would struggle to come to grips with a deadly plague. But the first step seems clear, with jihad or with a plague: People need to know what causes it.

Yeah, And Your Point Is?

Teacher Uses Muslim Student
As Example Of Terrorist

This story is too fucking funny. I have to wonder if the teacher meant this in a spirit of humor.

Of course, it's not friendly to single adolescents out for ridicule, so perhaps the teacher ought to have used more tact. However, let's face it, the fact that CAIR is involved would indicate that this is Taqiyya.

From CBS News:

CHICAGO (CBS) ― A Chicago teacher is under fire for singling out the only Muslim student in her class while talking about the Middle East. The teacher has now been reassigned to another school. However, the young boy's family is demanding answers.

CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports that the family met behind closed doors at Chicago Public Schools headquarters for two-and-a-half hours in a meeting presided over by a federal mediator. All sides have agreed to meet again next month.

The teacher in question is no longer working at the same school, but if the Pakistani-American family at the center of this story has their way, she might not be working much longer.

"He came home and before he even took his backpack off, he had tears in his eyes already," said Mohmmad Fahad Choudhary, victim's brother.

Mohmmad talks about the day his little brother came home from school saying his teacher had singled him out in front of his class as an example of a terrorist.

"She used the example of if Saleh were to go on to an airplane, put his backpack down and put two wires together and the plane were to blow up - and she didn't make a point," said Christina Abraham, Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Saleh Choudhary did not want to go on-camera to talk about the incident, which happened last April while he was a sixth-grader at Brentano Academy, but his brother says the 13-year-old's life hasn't been the same since.

"Everybody started teasing him and calling him a terrorist after the comments were made by the teacher," Mohmmad said.

Within days after the teacher allegedly made the comment during a history discussion, the family filed a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights.

Today, representatives from the federal government and CPS met with the family and the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

"The family does want her fired, they don't believe that she should be teaching students anymore," Abraham said.

The superintendent of Chicago Public Schools says lengthy suspension or possible termination is on the table.

"We have huge concerns about the conduct of the teacher," said Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan. "From my standpoint, what happened is absolutely unacceptable and we're looking at some very severe sanctions because of that behavior."

As of right now, the teacher is still on the job at a different school. The teachers union says it will do whatever it takes to ensure that its members' rights to due process are fully enforced.

They also question the timing of today's announcement – on the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks – but the family says today was simply the first day when all the parties could agree to meet.

You know what they say, Barack. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar ...

Ok, Bill Clinton did not follow in the footsteps of Pope Gregory VII and make Barak Obama stand three days barefoot in the snow before agreeing to see him. But He did make him follow in the footsteps of Emperor Henry the Fourth and come to his Harlem office. And the publicity surrounding the meeting emphasized who needed whom.

Obama was watching the presidency slipping from his ambitious fingers, listened to pundits blaming him for dissing the Clintons and broke just like Henry the Fourth.

You see, Henry the Fourth, like Obama, tried to diminish Pope Gregory's power by taking away his right to appoint church officials. The Pope responded by excommunicating him and moving to Canossa. Fearing underling (voter) rebellion, Henry went to Canossa to beg the forgiveness of the man whose wings he tried to clip. Hence, "To 'go to Canossa' is an expression to describe doing penance, often with the connotation that it is unwilling or coerced.

Of course, the Pope wanted more than just to show the world who's the boss and our Russian "friends" assume as as much. The headline in Moscow Times reads Is Hillary Clinton the new U.S. Secretary of State?

Is that the price Obama agreed to pay Clinton for his services?

It should be noted that the "peace" between the German Emperor and the Pope did not last and it is doubtful that the future of the Clinton/Obama cease fire will be any different.

More importantly, when sanctimonious Charlie Gibson asked Sarah Pelin whether she hesitated when asked to be John McCain's running mate, she said no and explained:

PALIN: I -- I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink.
So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate.

Good. Let's hope that John McCain whom the world knows does not blink will be our next president and she will be our next Vice President. For the whole watching world has just seen how very easy it is to make Barack Obama blink and then some more.

September 11 on VOICES OF FREEDOM

WC and I hosted the most recent edition of Voices of Freedom on KFNX Talk Radio. Our guest was "Mohammed Abdul."

And what a discussion we had!

The topics: the history of Islamic terrorism and the United States, the upcoming election, and a comparison of Islamic values and the Tne Commandments.

We also issued a challenge to CAIR. No word back from CAIR, however.

During the first segment of the show, when WC and I chat together, we gave the Winston Churchill Award (for courage) and the Neville Chamberlain Award (for appeasement). During that segment, I made sure that the dangerous meaning of Ramadan was made clear to the listeners.

Pastorius thinks that this latest edition of Voices of Freedom will be of interest to regular readers here at IBA. And from my perspective, the show went very well. You can download the audio HERE.

Al Qaeda Declares Coptic Priest Zakaria Botros "One of the Most Wanted Infidels in the World"

We've discussed Father Zakaria here before at IBA. Al Jazeera proclaimed Zakaria to be responsible for "6 million Muslims Converting to Christianity Each Year."

In other words, this guy is a major drain on Jihadi resources. And, Al Qaeda is pissed.

You have probably never heard of Father Zakaria Botros. But you need to know his story. He is far and away the most-watched and most-effective Arab-American evangelist focused on reaching the Muslim world, and by far the most controversial. The Rush Limbaugh of the Revivalists, he is funny, feisty, brilliant, opinionated, and provocative. But rather than preaching the gospel of conservatism, he is preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. And his enemies do not simply want to silence him. They want to assassinate him.

Last week, I had the honor of interviewing Botros by phone from a secure, undisclosed location in the United States, where he now resides. He told me that he had just learned that an al Qaeda website had posted his photograph and named him one of the "most wanted" infidels in the world. The Radicals have even put a bounty on his head. The Christian Broadcasting Network reported the figure was as high as $60 million.

Botros does not know for certain. But just to put that in context, the U.S. bounty on Osama bin Laden's head is "only" $25 million.

Why are the Radicals so enraged by an elderly Coptic priest from Egypt who is in his 70s? Because Botros is waging an air war against them, and he is winning.

Using state-of-the art satellite technology to bypass the efforts of Islamic governments to keep the gospel out of their countries, Botros is directly challenging the claims of Muhammad to be a prophet, and the claims of the Qu'ran to be God's word.

He systematically deconstructs Muhammad's life, story by story, pointing out character flaws and sinful behavior.

He carefully deconstructs the Qu'ran, verse by verse, citing contradictions and inconsistencies.

And not only does he explain without apology what he believes is wrong with Islam, he goes on to teach Muslims from the Bible why Jesus loves them and why is so ready to forgive them and adopt them into His family, no matter who they are or what they have done.

If Botros was doing this in a corner, or on some cable access channel where no one saw him or cared, that would be one thing. But his ninety-minute program - a combination of preaching, teaching and answering questions from (often irate) callers all over the world - has become "must see TV" throughout the Muslim world. It is replayed four times a week in Arabic, his native language, on a satellite television network called Al Hayat ("Life TV.") It can be seen in every country in North Africa, Middle East, Central Asia, as well as all throughout North America,Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. And not only can it be seen in so many places, it is seen - by an estimated fifty million Muslims a day.

At the same time, Botros is getting millions of hits on his multiple web sites in multiple languages. There, Muslims can read his sermons and study through an archive of answers to frequently asked questions. They can also enter a live chat room called "Pal Chat" where they are not only permitted but encouraged to ask their toughest questions to trained on-line counselors, many of whom are Muslim converts to Christianity who understand exactly where the questioners are coming from and the struggles they are having.

Millions hate him, to be sure, but they are watching. They are listening. They are processing what he is saying and they are talking about him with their friends and family. When Botros challenges Radical clerics to answer his many refutations of Islam and defend the Qu'ran, millions wait to see how the fundamentalists will respond. But they rarely do. They prefer to attack Botros than answer him.

Yet, the more the Radicals attack him, the more well-known he becomes. The more well-known he becomes, the more Muslims feel compelled to tune in.

And as more Muslims tune in, more are coming to the conclusion that Botros is right and in turn are choosing to become followers of Jesus Christ. Botros estimates at least 1,000 Muslims a month pray to receive Christ with his telephone counselors. Some of them pray to receive Christ live on their air with Botros. And this surely is only the tip of the iceberg, as it represents only those who are able to get through on the jammed phone lines. There simply are not currently enough trained counselors to handle each call.

[...]He does not believe all Muslims are Radicals, but he does believe all Muslims are spiritually lost, and he wants desperately to help them find their way to forgiveness and reconciliation with the God who made them and loves them.

"I believe this is the hand of God," Botros told me. "He is directing me. He shows me what to say. He shows me what to write on…the web sites. He is showing me more and more how to use the technology to reach people with his message of redemption."

Interview attitude? We are 'ENTITLED' Mrs. Palin, and we'll NEVER CARE FOR YOU, as one of us

International Herald Tribune (NYT/WaPo) on Gibson's interview:
Gibson, who sat back in his chair and wriggled his foot impatiently, had the skeptical, annoyed tone of a university president who agrees to interview the daughter of a trustee, but doesn't believe she merits admission.

When he asked her, slowly and solemnly to "look the country in the eye" and say whether she truly felt qualified to be vice president and possibly commander in chief, Gibson seemed to expect Palin to express at least a moment of humility and self-doubt.
Charlie, did you, in a one on one, national interview ask the ONE this same kind of question when he began his run (has he ever been to Canada or Mexico)?
How about Bill Clinton, an insular governor, from what some would think a cracker state, whose only foreign experience was a scholarship? Did you ask him?
Or Mr. Bush, gov of a wild west state?
Or J Carter, the peanut farmer?
But for a SARAH PALIN it's valid?

Are you getting it?

Palin said she had no doubts whatsoever when asked to be Senator John McCain's running mate. ("I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink. You have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink.") Gibson suggested that her brash, unwavering confidence sounded like "hubris."
Anyone self confident enough, and seeking that kind of office and power HAD BETTER sound like that Mr. Gibson.

That's a bit past skepticism.

All of these people miss the obvious answer that readiness for the presidency is a function of character. John Kennedy, LBJ and Richard Nixon, the last men to be senators who became presidents have mixed records to say the least. Kennedy's fiasco in Vienna with Khrushchev, and Nixon's crimes indicate very little to us how 'foreign' experience aids in the office. LBJ...OY

Nixon turned out to be an extremely successfully president as a foreign policy leader, but his character destroyed any good works. John Kennedy's record included Vienna, the Cuban Missile Crisis and starting the Vietnam catastrophe which has created the modern democratic party.

I have a feeling that Mrs. Palin's experience out maneuvering, and out gutting with confidence the multinationals of ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips and BP are a hint of her inner self.
