In which I urge President Obama to now FIGHT A WAR

The flag of Afghanistan between 1997-2001, dis...

Image via Wikipedia

We have all seen the rules of engagement in AfPak and what we are trying to achieve in this way.
Long, and slow.

It might work, but not for most democracies. Odds of any kind of democracy coming out of this in Afghanistan, low. In 2007 Michael Yon offered an official warning that we were losing and that it might actually happen that a base, a key base might be overrun Vietnam style. It appears he was too prescient to be temporally accurate.. but now we read from the very respected Jamestown Foundation..
Shaykh Nur ul-Haqq Mujahid bin Mohamed, the Taliban military commander in the Maydan Shahr district of Wardak province, stated in a recent interview that Taliban forces are trying to block a major supply corridor south of Kabul and "close it permanently." One of Afghanistan's most important highways asses through Maydan Shahr, connecting Kabul with the Taliban stronghold of Qandahar. The interview appeared in the 44th issue of al-Somood, the monthly magazine of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (posted to jihadi websites on July 22).
In the prologue to the interview, Shaykh Nur ul-Haqq is described as a highstanding graduate of a Peshawar theological school who joined the Taliban movement in its early stages in the mid-1990s, eventually becoming head of military security in Nangarhar province. He has been in charge of military operations in Maydan Shahr since 2002.
According to the Taliban commander, the "Crusader" forces in Maydan Wardak have military positions in the provincial capital of Maydan Shahr as well as at various points along the Kabul-Kandahar highway. "Battles between the mujahideen and the Crusaders occur to control the corridor and the two sides will swap control of it during the day, but at night the mujahideen will take complete control of it and all the roads leading to the district," stated the shaykh.
Shaykh Nur ul-Haqq insists the growing number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan is not as important as their morale, which he claims is in a state of decline, saying,
"This ailment cannot be evaded by increasing the number of troops."
Fighting in Maydan Wardak can be difficult, the Taliban commander admits. The "huge capabilities of
the enemy" are posed against the limited resources of local fighters, and the district's close proximity to Kabul makes it easy for the Coalition to move troops quickly to Maydan Wardak in response to any Taliban attack.
Despite this, the shaykh affirms that successful attacks on military and supply convoys continue in the district.
Shaykh Nur ul-Haqq also described the various Taliban strategies and tactics used throughout Aghanistan, noting that what works in one province will not necessarily work in another:
For example, in Kunar and Nuristan provinces, the most suitable military method is a military clash because those two provinces possess a geographic situation suitable for this military strategy. Meanwhile, in Helmand and the southwest of Afghanistan the preferred method is to plant mines and use explosives because the terrain of those areas is desert terrain, which does not afford the mujahideen secure places to hide. As for Kabul, martyrdom operations and surprise attacks are best because the open concentration of large numbers of invaders there gives the mujahideen an opportunity to launch
those kinds of campaigns against their bases and barracks.
For now, however, Shaykh Nur ul-Haqq's focus on closing the highway through Maydan Wardak may be disrupted by an outbreak of fighting between the Taliban and their former ally, the Hizb-i-Islam militia of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar (Weesa [Kabul], July 26). Mullah Zabiullah, a Maydan Wardak Taliban commander, was reportedly killed in separate fighting with Afghan security and intelligence forces on July 31 (Bakhtar News Agency, July 31).

Cutting off supply routes is the hallmark of fighting conventional war.
Fight a real war, Mr, Obama.
The Taliban will have to be utterly crushed, and if that makes more fighters, we will have to crush them as well until the situation is different.
National Technical Means.
Whatever it takes.
Afpak IS the good war.
THEY are the bad guys.

They must all be killed. Every bit as much as the Japanese forces on Peleliu, Saipan, Guam, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Civilians WILL be killed by accident.

I guess then the Taliban should not have been hosts to Al Qaeda and supported them in every way.

Shocking: Levi Johnston Shopping Tell-All Lie Book About Sarah Palin

Note he previously said, just this past month, he'd lied about her to get attention.

Now he's peddling more lies.

He will of course find an eager publisher.

And of course he should be published. Of course he should be a published author.

After all, he's accomplished so much -- he had unprotected sex with a younger girl, got her knocked up, and then abandoned her. And then, fearing that he soon might have to get a real job, he tricked her into accepting a false marriage proposal so he could sell the story to Us weekly for $100,000 (and also shop a reality show about the sham marriage).

Who wouldn't want to be in the Levi Johnston business?

Yesterday, Shukrijumah's Mom Says "He Didn't Hate Americans", But, She's Supports Jihadism

From the New York Daily News:

Shukrijumah's dad was a Muslim missionary, born and raised in Guyana, who was assigned to the Al Farouq Mosque in Brooklyn. The father, who died in 2004, also served as translator for blind Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center attack.

Now his son is on the FBI's most wanted list, with a $5 million bounty on his head, believed to be hiding out in northwest Pakistan.

His mom told the Daily News last month he didn't hate the U.S. or Americans but said she hadn't heard from him in years.

"He hates the way the world is corrupting human nature," Zuhrah Ahmed, 49, said at her home in Miramar, Fla. "Maybe he was chosen by God to make people realize that Islam is a better way of life?"

Respect, Mon.

Now THIS could be a great mudwrestling match.

Can't you see Mickey and Jill stripping down to go out in a muddy field of honor?

The National Enquirer (yes, that's the correct link):

MICHELLE OBAMA has had enough of JILL BIDEN's lack of R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

The claws are out in the White House as First Lady Michelle Obama feuds with Vice President Joe Biden's wife Jill, sources say.

"Michelle is furious at Jill for what she sees as her increasing behind-the-scenes lack of respect toward her," a political source in the nation's capital told The ENQUIRER.

"To Michelle, it's insulting that Jill and Joe are always so casual around America's first family.

"Michelle believes Jill doesn't respect her. What's got her seething is that Jill doesn't seem to treat Michelle with the reverence the first lady expects.

"And it drives Michelle crazy!"

In my bid to keep up with our esteemed leader (reminder: I'm only charging 1/2 what Obama did. Keep those donations coming. November's a ways off so there's still time) I would like to take a vacation as well. Hell, being unemployed I'm working as hard as he and his wife (and I'm not living in government housing. Yet). but mine won't be near as extravagent as her trip to Spain. I can get a week at the shore for about 1% of what she spent. So again, keep those donations coming, please.

Matthews Plays the Race Card (again), Accuses Repulicans of Playing the Race Card

Chris Matthews: Do Republicans Oppose Obama Because of His Race?
By Noel Sheppard
Fri, 08/06/2010 - 22:11 ET

Chris Matthews on Friday actually asked a GOP Congressman if Republicans oppose President Obama because of his race.

On the 5PM installment of MSNBC's "Hardball," Matthews brought on Rep. Bob Inglis, the Congressman from South Carolina who easily lost his primary fight in June to Tea Party candidate Trey Gowdy and has been badmouthing his Party ever since.

Early in the conversation, Matthews asked, "What is it that`s gotten into your Party`s water supply, the Republican Party`s water supply, that makes them strangely hostile to the president, not just against his policies, but personally? Is it race?"

Fixated on racial conspiracy theories, the "Hardball" host later in the interview asked, "If we had about a million Heidi Klums trying to cross the border, the Mexican border of the United States, you know, the gorgeous blond from Germany or whatever, do you think that would be a problem with immigration right now, or is it really just ethnic?" (video here)

After voting for TARP and telling voters not to listen to Glenn Beck too much, South Carolina Republican Congressman Bob Inglis was outvoted in his primary this year. Now he`s offering up some very honest advice for his party and some very scary
stories from his time on the trail.

Here`s how Mr. Inglis described one campaign donor meeting to David Corn at "Mother Jones" -- quote -- "They say, `Bob, what don`t you get? Barack Obama is a socialist, communist, Marxist, who wants to destroy the American economy, so he can take over as dictator. Health care is part of that, and he wants to open up the Mexican border and turn the United States into a Muslim nation.`"

Congressman Inglis joins us tonight from Greenville, South Carolina.

Well, that was a funny conversation. Somebody actually thought that the Muslims would be pouring over the Mexican border. The Rio Grande protects us from Islam. These people have got a problem.

REP. BOB INGLIS (R), SOUTH CAROLINA: I guess so. It`s -- I think it`s generally not seen as a Muslim nation, but-- Mexico isn`t.

MATTHEWS: Well, what is -- what is -- let`s talk about the conspiracy theories. What is it that`s gotten into your party`s water supply, the Republican Party`s water supply, that makes them strangely hostile to the president, not just against his policies, but personally? Is it race?
Later in the conversation, Matthews actually said the following:

MATTHEWS: I can`t resist asking this. I got to ask this question. If we had about a million Heidi Klums trying to cross the border, the Mexican border of the United States, you know, the gorgeous blond from Germany or whatever, do you think that would be a problem with immigration right now, or is it really just ethnic? The people from a different ethnic background.

If Heidi Klum, by the million, was trying to cross the border, I figure a lot of guys would be down there welcoming her personally. What`s your view?

I want to make this a little ludicrous because I think it`s obvious it`s ethnic. And I want people just to admit it.
So, in Matthews' distorted view, Republicans oppose Obama's policies because of his race, and Americans that are against illegal immigration only feel this way because those coming across the border are Mexican.

And this guy has his own show on a cable news network.

Tough to believe, isn't it?

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: Truther

Iran's Ahmadinejad: 9/11 Death Toll Exaggerated
Saturday, 07 Aug 2010

TEHRAN -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks were exaggerated, in a fresh broadside at the United States just days after President Barack Obama voiced willingness to talk to Iran.

Well-known for his anti-American and anti-Israeli rhetoric, the hardline populist Ahmadinejad also repeated his denial of the Holocaust, on which the consensus of historians is that six million Jews were exterminated by Nazi Germany.

Ahmadinejad said the September 11 attacks with hijacked airliners on New York and Washington D.C. had been trumped up as an excuse for the United States to invade Afghanistan and Iraq.

Speaking at a Tehran conference, Ahmadinejad said there was no evidence that the death toll at New York's World Trade Center, destroyed in the attacks, was as high as reported and said "Zionists" had been tipped off in advance.

"What was the story of September 11? During five to six days, and with the aid of the media, they created and prepared public opinion so that everyone considered an attack on Afghanistan and Iraq as (their) right," he said in a televised speech.

No "Zionists" were killed in the World Trade Center, according to Ahmadinejad, because "one day earlier they were told not go to their workplace."

Muslims Kill 10 Christians For "Preaching Christianity"

The news calls them "Taliban", but the truth is, they are just Muslims doing what the Krayon tells them to do.

From AP:

KABUL, Afghanistan – Ten members of a medical team, including six Americans, were shot and killed by militants as they were returning from providing eye treatment and other health care in remote villages in northern Afghanistan, a spokesman for the team said Saturday.

Dirk Frans, director of the International Assistance Mission, said one German, one Briton and two Afghans also were part of the team that made the three-week trip to Nuristan province. They drove to the province, left their vehicles and hiked for hours with pack horses over mountainous terrain to reach the Parun valley in the province's northwest.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told The Associated Press that they killed the foreigners because they were "spying for the Americans" and "preaching Christianity."
The Krayon says: "Fight and slay the pagans [Christians] wherever ye find them and seize them, confine them, and lie in wait for them in every place of ambush" (Surah 9:5)

Islam is an ideology, not a race

Andrew Bolt
That’s it. Spot on! Some people in the right places must be reading WoJ.
A very sane decision by the Equal Opportunity Division of the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal:
53 First, vilification of Muslims does not fall within section 20C(1), because Muslims are not a ‘race’ as defined in section 4 of the Act. The reason, as the Tribunal said in Khan [i.e., Khan v Commissioner, Department of Corrective Services & anor [2002] NSWADT 131] at [18], is that Muslims ‘do not share common racial, national or ethnic origins’ and are therefore not an ethno-religious group such as the definition embraces. In so ruling, we follow the decisions, commencing with Khan, that are listed above at [44]. We are unaware of any recent authority to the contrary. It follows that any statements broadcast by the Respondents that generated negative feelings towards Muslims generally, or any group of Muslims, on the ground of their being Muslims could not amount to unlawful racial vilification.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty Slams Ground Zero Mosque, Says it Would be Unpatriotic of Muslims to Build on “Hallowed and Sacred Ground”

From Weasel Zippers:
The controversy over a proposed mosque near New York’s ground zero memorial hit Minnesota on Friday, with Gov. Tim Pawlenty trashing the idea and Rep. Keith Ellison, the nation’s first Muslim congressman, slamming the governor.
“I know he wants to be president really bad, and I know he’s trying to appeal to the most extreme elements of his party to do that,” Ellison said, “but I hope he doesn’t want to be president so bad that he’s willing to dishonor the First Amendment and our heritage of religious tolerance.”
In an interview with Real Clear Politics on Friday, Pawlenty suggested it would be unpatriotic to build a mosque near the site of the 2001 terrorist attack on New York City.
“I’m strongly opposed to the idea of putting a mosque anywhere near ground zero — I think it’s inappropriate,” Pawlenty said. “I believe that 3,000 of our fellow innocent citizens were killed in that area, and some ways from a patriotic standpoint, it’s hallowed ground, it’s sacred ground, and we should respect that. We shouldn’t have images or activities that degrade or disrespect that in any way.”
Ellison said Pawlenty displayed “a profound lack of understanding” about religious tolerance, and should apologize for his remarks. “It’s very unseemly that a Midwestern politician would try to divide New Yorkers and Americans on the basis of religion,” the Minnesota Democrat said.

Aubamica in AurOville

Welcome to Auroville/Oroville, also known as AurOville. Lovely place, and it's the people who make it so. It's Ameridicherry as only Aubama can make it. You're going to love it, and be loved by it.

Yeah, some things have changed since I was a boy. I remember when the town was just a stop on the highway, a place to pull in to buy a box of cherries or peaches or whatever was in season in this wonderful aurchard land. I liked watching out the car window to see the rattle snakes coiled up on the roadside to get the heat from the pavement before the full sunrise woke them up to slither off back into the desert to bite rodents and such snake-tasties. I liked the cherries and the peaches particularly, though the snakes were excellent too. I didn't realize that in time to come all would be one in a basket of cosmic awareness of The Great Motherhood.

Shows what I know. America just ain't what it used to be. Some call it progress. I call it really confusing. I mean, "Really confusing, man." A trip down Memory Lane with me? I need someone to hold my hand on this on.

Ground Zero Mosque on Fast Track, but Greek Church Waits

From D-Lo at Weasel Zippers:

You tell ‘em, Father C.
Shame on Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the members of his Landmarks Preservation Commission for voting 9-0 to allow the building of a Muslim mosque at ground zero in New York City.
Too many Americans are sleepwalking when it comes to understanding Islamic policies during the last 1,400 years of what I see as its brutal history. No one talks about St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was crushed by the collapsing Twin Towers.
Why is the mosque put on the fast track to construction when St. Nicholas’ reconstruction is being hindered by New York City bureaucracy?
Wake up, America, before it is too late. The Greek Orthodox faithful of the Balkans were enslaved by Islam for 500 years. Ask me what it means to live under the laws of Islam, under Sharia Law and the Hadith. Call me and I will provide a history lesson on what can be like to live under Islam extremists.
Fr. Constantine J. Simones Waterford
About the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church:

Since 1922, St. Nicholas Church had stood as a quiet sanctuary of prayer and reflection amidst the tumultuous and bustling crossroads of commerce. For the past nine years the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey has used bureaucratic obstacles and false promises to hinder the rebuilding of the St. Nicholas Church.

Canada: "Halal Credit Cards" Give Money To Charity Which Promotes Trutherism and Anti-Semitism

Surprise, surprise:
Alright hold on a minute - what is the point of this card again? Swiping a card to buy something with money that you already have - hey doesn't that sound like a debit card???? Or a gift certificate????? Aside from the fact that I do not see what the point of this card is, it begs further investigation.

This card was released in 2009 at Toronto's "Reviving the Islamic Spirit Conference" (a conference which has featured speakers like Zakir Naik, Yusuf Islam, Tariq Ramadan, etc.). In the press release, MasterCard stated that amongst the cards various benefits, "In addition, for every transaction of over $20 billed to the card, one needy child in a developing country will be fed for a day through RS Foundation."

Having never heard of the RS Foundation SMW did a bit of research (since if you buy this card promoted in Canadian Living and use it you will be giving money to the RS Foundation). Regular readers will no doubt be shocked (shocked) to learn that the Director of the RS Foundation, Shujaat Wasty is a 9/11 Truther who has written and posted various online articles about the evil Americans and the "alleged" abuse of women in Afghanistan. In his online critique of Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 Wasty wrote:

The second criticism was the absence of the most important player in the grand scheme of events: Israel. There is no that the Zionist movement occupies a primary role in the WTC attacks, international anti-American sentiment, , and plunging the entire world into the chaotic time that we live in. Such a major character being excluded from the movie is simply unfair.

In 2005 Wasty appeared in a panel at Concordia University where he said
1) the cartoon drawings of Mohammed should not be part of freedom of expression, that
2) Evangelical Christians belong to the "worst form of fudamentlism" and are responsible for a "genocide in North America,"
3) that Islamic governance is the only true form of democracy and where he argued for
4) Shariah based arbitration to be allowed in Canada. Oh and guess what.....according to self-listed credits he works for the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Voltswagen

Goldberg: The Volkswagon Vs. The "Voltswagon"

[N]o matter how you crunch the numbers or the science, there's no disputing that this is a political car, designed to meet the demands not of an economic market but of an ideological one, directed by the collusion of big business and big government. In this sense, the Volkswagen and the Voltswagen have a lot in common.
The original Volkswagen was intended as the "people's car" (that's what Volkswagen means). The idea of a cheap, safe, reliable car for the working man was popular before Adolf Hitler embraced it, but as a self-proclaimed man of the people, he made the idea his own....
And then there's the electric-gas hybrid Chevy Volt, aka the "Voltswagen." At $41,000, about as much as the average American makes in a year, this is no people's car. GM, owned by the government and the labor unions, is pitching it to affluent hipsters who don't need a lot of space for a family. Deloitte Consulting says that the demand for such cars is from "young, very high income individuals" from households that make more than $200,000 a year, which is why the Volt will be rolled out in upscale, trendy urban markets. (Meanwhile the Chevy Cruze, the gas-only version of the Volt, has more room inside and is a mere $17,000.)
Because the Volt's sticker price might be too high for even that crowd, the government is offering a federal subsidy of up to $7,500 (Californians have a state subsidy, too), which means that working-class people will be helping to pay for playthings for upper-income people.
"Like the EV1 that GM tried to peddle in the California market," Kenneth Green, an environmental scientist at the American Enterprise Institute, says, "the Volt is a vanity car for the well-off that will be subsidized by less well-off taxpayers at all stages, from R&D to sales and to the construction of charging stations."

Pamela Geller Of Atlas Shrugs' and SIOA, Files Lawsuit Against Mayor "Bloomberg's MTA"

This so great. Pamela, David Yerushalmi, and Robert Muise  are heroes:

Here is the ad (Pamela) submitted to the MTA to run on buses in New York City:

Ground zero bus

The ad was refused. I asked on what grounds. CBS Outdoor told me that the city said that "images of 911 were not allowed." I was floored. I said, "It is American history. How can it be banned? What about Pearl Harbor? Is that censored too?" I said, "On what grounds is 911 images banned?" It is unconscionable. Will of CBS said, "You can't run the plane."

9/11 Museum To Focus On The Horror of The Attacks: Liberals Angry

From the New York Observer:

Re-Remembering 9/11: The New Ground Zero Museum

Visitors standing in a 120,000-square-foot cavern below where the north tower once stood will be confronted with not just the names but the faces of the 2,982 fallen. Artifacts will tell the story, from a huge FDNY fire truck, one-half of it pristine, one-half charred and crushed by the bridge collapse, to a pair of bloody high heels donated by a survivor who lacerated her feet as she fled the imploding towers. The museum will show the hijackers-and they will show pictures of people leaping from the towers, not to horrify visitors but to make sure the story is as complete as possible. Visitors will have to descend the actual granite "Survivor's Staircase" to end the tour.

If this seems blunt, organizers said, it is for the sake of posterity. "What we've tried to do is to keep our fingerprints off the story as much as possible," said Steven Davis, the museum's architect. "We're trying to tell the truth." For Mr. Daniels, president of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Foundation since 2006, this is a chance to make a well-worn story fresh. People "are going to come in tremendous numbers when we open, and the question is what do we do with that opportunity, vis-à-vis 9/11?"

Not this, say some historians and critics, who already are concerned. David Simpson, author of 9/11: The Culture of Commemoration, said there's a potential "the museum will not educate, it will simply shock," and generate so much emotion it will be a shrine, not museum.  "Without in any sense diminishing the horror of 9/11, it isn't the single event of this history. It just isn't.... The more you focus on the immediacy of that day, those 102 minutes or whatever that was, the more risk there is of losing sight of everything else."  Alice Greenwald, director of the museum, described its planned content in an article for Curator Journal in January as "both graphic in its violence and provocative in its implications." Too harsh? Too bathetic? Too sentimental? Will it celebritize the dead? Let the debate begin.

Do Lesbians Like The Burqa? Elena Kagan and Sharia Law

9/11 families blast Kagan

From the New York Post:
Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan has gotten an angry thumbs-down from 9/11 family members who say she played a key role in quashing a lawsuit that accused the Saudi kingdom of helping finance the terror attacks.
"Kagan is the main reason why the Supreme Court ruled against the 9/11 families," said William Doyle, who lost his son in the Twin Towers.
Doyle and thousands of other 9/11 relatives had joined in a suit that traced funding for the 19 hijackers to certain Saudi royals, along with banks, corporations and Islamic charities.
The royals were let off the hook last year at the urging of Kagan, the US solicitor general.
"Kagan protected them," Doyle said. "I think it's a huge issue, and I hope it comes up in her confirmation hearings."
She filed a brief to the Supreme Court last May, arguing that the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act shielded Saudi princes from the suit's claims that they gave money to Osama bin Laden and other terrorist leaders or to charities that funneled funds to al Qaeda.
Kagan cited "the potentially significant foreign-relations consequences of subjecting another sovereign state to suit."
The Supreme Court declined to hear the case.
In December, 2006, Kagan hired Noah Feldman, architect of Iraq’s Constitution requiring Shariah, as a star faculty member at Harvard Law School.  On March 16, 2008, Feldman published his controversial article “Why Shariah” in the New York Times Magazine, which promoted “Islamists” -  the Muslim Brotherhood – as a progressive democratic party, and promoted Shariah as a model not just for Muslim-majority countries but for all: “In fact, for most of its history, Islamic law offered the most liberal and humane legal principles available anywhere in the world…”  The article was adapted from his book The Fall and Rise of the Islamic State, which was published in late March, 2008.On September 16, 2008, Kagan whole-heartedly endorsed Feldman’s promotion of the Muslim Brotherhood and Shariah by honoring him with the endowed Bemis Chair in International Law.  Feldman’s speech on receiving the award was revealing: he advocated for an international, “outward interpretation” of the Constitution that could “require the U.S. to confer rights on citizens of other nations,” and allow for an “experimental Constitution.”
As to the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist worldwide political organization that Feldman and Kagan support? Their motto is as revealing as Feldman’s speech:
“Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.”
Given that slogan, you could well ask if Feldman really meant the Muslim Brotherhood when he wrote about “Islamists” in the book Kagan so admired that she gave him an endowed chair.  And he anticipated that question; in the second footnote in his book he states, “Throughout this book, when I refer to Islamists or Islamism, I have in mind mainstream Sunni Muslim activists loosely aligned with the ideology of the transnational Muslim Brotherhood (MB)…the Brotherhood broadly embraces electoral politics, but without eschewing the use of violence in some circumstances, notably against those whom it defines as invaders in Iraq and Palestine.”
There's more. Go read it.

Who'll Fess Up to Voting for This Asswipe?

New York Daily News:

Mayor Bloomberg doesn't care where money to build Ground Zero mosque comes from
BY Adam Lisberg

Mayor Bloomberg said he doesn't know where the planners of the proposed mosque and Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero will get the money to build -- and he doesn't care.

"People say, well, you know, 'Do they have the money? Can they raise the money? Where does it come from?' " the mayor said Friday on his WOR-AM radio show with John Gambling.

"I don't know, and government shouldn't -- do you really want every time they pass the basket in your church and you throw a buck in, they run over and say, 'Okay, now, you know, where do you come from? Who are your parents? Where'd you get this money?'

"No! This is just not -- and I can't for the life of me -- a handful of people ought to be ashamed of themselves."

Bloomberg gave an impassioned defense of the rights of the Park51 Islamic center this week after the Landmarks Preservation Commission gave the founders permission to tear down the existing structure on Park Place.

Organizers have not yet raised money to construct the proposed 13-story building.

They have said they may accept some foreign donations, but have pledged to weed out any contributions from people and groups with anti-American agendas.

Investigators from the United Arab Emirates have determined that a Japanese oil tanker damaged in the Straits of Hormuz last month was struck by an explosive-filled boat in an act of terrorism, the Emirati state news agency WAM reported Friday.

“A responsible source at the UAE Coast Guard said that investigations and an examination carried out by specialised teams had confirmed that the tanker had been the subject of a terrorist attack,” WAM writes.

The report came after an al-Qaeda-linked group, the Brigades of Abdullah Azzam, claimed responsibility on its website for the suicide attack, the AP reports.

The M Star oil tanker, filled with 270,000 tons of oil, was damaged July 28 in the Strait of Hormuz after heading from the UAE port of Das Island to Japan.

The al-Qaeda-linked Brigades carried a photo on its website “of the purported bomber pointing to a photograph of a tanker on a laptop,” the AP reports. “It said the bomber was a ‘martyr’ – meaning he had died in the attack. It also said it had delayed the announcement until several group members who were involved in the operation ‘returned safely to base.’”

The Brigades have claimed responsibility for an attempted August 2005 Katyusha rocket attack on a U.S. assault ship in Jordan’s Aqaba Red Sea resort and for 2004 bombings of Egyptian resorts in which 98 people were killed, the AP said. Al-Qaeda attacked the USS Cole in the Yemeni port of Aden in 2000 and has attacked Saudi oil infrastructure.

"I think unless they [the UAE] are absolutely certain [the tanker was damaged in an act of terrorism] then it is a very dangerous thing to say and very irresponsible as it may well raise insurance rates for ships going into the Gulf and may well drive up oil prices at a time the global (and U.S.) economy don't need more stress," a former senior U.S. official who works on the region told POLITICO.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have recently announced bans on BlackBerry messaging and e-mail services citing security risks posed including by those plotting terrorist attacks using the encrypted services. There were conflicting reports Friday about whether Saudi Arabia had cut off some or all BlackBerry services.

"The [BlackBerry] ban is not directly tied to [the tanker] incident, though [it's] clear evidence that the bad guys in general have been using [BlackBerry] for communications," a source familiar with the UAE's position on the issue said

US Arrests Highlight Increasing Terrorist Recruitment
Friday, 06 Aug 2010 12:35 PM
By: Voice of America

A series of arrests in the United States this week sheds light on a growing concern of law enforcement officials: Foreign terrorist organizations such as al-Shabab in Somalia are receiving assistance from U.S. citizens.

In some cases, those citizens are traveling abroad for terrorist training and are joining armed insurgencies. Experts say many of these citizens are ideal targets for terror recruitment.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested 26-year-old Shaker Masri in Chicago on Tuesday, only hours before he was scheduled to board a flight for Somalia. He had told an FBI informant that he planned to travel to Somalia or Afghanistan to join an armed insurgency.

One day after Masri's arrest, the FBI charged 14 naturalized U.S. citizens from Minnesota, California, and Alabama with providing material support to al-Shabab, a group the U.S. government has designated as a terrorist organization.

The U.S. Justice Department says two of the people indicted are already fighting for al-Shabab in Somalia, and that they appear in online videos for the group.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said these latest arrests signal a dangerous and growing trend in the United States.

"We are seeing an increasing number of individuals, including U.S. citizens, who have become captivated by extremist ideology and have taken steps to carry out terrorist objectives, either at home or abroad," he said.
Although recruiting home-grown terrorists is a recent development in the United States, other countries have been dealing with domestic terrorists for some time, says Thomas Mockaitis, a terrorism expert at DePaul University.

"It's not exactly as new as you might think," he said. "It's very similar to what happened in Britain in the 1980s and '90s."

During that time, many young men from Afghanistan and Pakistan living in Britain returned to fight the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan, Mockaitis says.

Now, he says, Somalia is the destination of choice for those seeking to carry out a holy war.

"Somalia has become what Afghanistan was in the 1980s," Mockaitis says. "It is a failed state and it's a hotbed for [not only] conflict, but also the training and export of extremist activity."

Through methods that include recruiting in U.S. Somali communities and creating Internet videos promoting their cause, Mockaitis says al-Shabab is able to reach young men who might never have traveled to Somalia.

"Many of these people are in fact the children of refugees. They were probably born in Somalia or born soon after they [i.e., their mothers] came to the United States," he said. "And they are not particularly in touch with their parents. And yet, neither are they particularly attracted to or accepted by mainstream American culture. So there is this kind of double alienation that makes them particularly prone to recruitment."
Although some analysts say this might provide some insight into the motivations of those recruited in the large Somali community in Minnesota, for example, they say it does not explain what might have motivated terrorism suspect Shaker Masri, who was born in Alabama, lived in Chicago, and who has family in Jordan.

Masri was arrested after several conversations with an FBI informant. Although authorities say Masri acted alone, Mockaitis says most terrorism recruits find solidarity in a community of like-minded individuals.
"I'm not persuaded, and actually there is some research to suggest that people are not prone to self-radicalization, as we imagine," he said. "They don't just log on the Internet and suddenly become a jihadist. They often are persuaded by somebody they know - a family member, a friend, whatever the case may be."

Speaking to reporters at the Justice Department, Holder said he wanted to send a message to those arrested this week and others who might be charting a similar course.

"While our investigations are ongoing around the country, these arrests and charges should serve as an unmistakable warning to others considering joining or supporting terrorist groups like al-Shabab," he said. "If you choose this route, you can expect to find yourself in a U.S. jail cell or a casualty on the battlefield in Somalia."

As many as six suspected militants from Minnesota have died in the fighting in Somalia.

The Last Crusade:

Paul L. Williams, Ph.D.

A Canadian judge has refused to sign the extradition order for Abdullah Khadr, a leading terror suspect.

Khadr has been held in Canada since his arrest in Toronto on December 7, 2005.

The U.S. Justice Department has accused him of killing a peace-keeper in Kabul, of operating a training camp for jihadi recruits in Afghanistan, of purchasing munutions and explosives for al Qaeda, and of participating in a plot to assassinate Pervez Musharraf, the former president of Pakistan.

He pleaded guilty to these charges but Canadian Judge Christopher Speyer ruled that Khadr’s confession was “manifestly unreliable” since it may have been the result of coercion.

Upon his release from custody, Khadr said: “I think this is going to be the beginning of a new life for me. I just want to start anew now.”

Khadr’s “starting anew” may be bad news for the American people.

Witness this portion of his interview with a correspondent from the PBS news program Frontline:

PBS: What was your reaction to September 11, 2001?

Khadr: Like, I think itself was very amazing. It was very wild to see a person seeing a building in front of him and he’s going 900 kilometers per hour straight in the building. That was very hard to believe. If you believe in something very hard you can do that. . .

PBS: So you felt admiration for the people who did this?

Khadr: Yes. Because they did some things that stunned the entire world. Everybody for entire, like months, was talking about that. I was watching TV and they brought some person from China, I think. China, Taiwan, something like that. And they asked him, he said that this is good for America to know that it is not always the superpower that can hit, that weak people have ways to call the world for the world to listen to them, what they are saying, what they can do.

PBS: Once again, almost 2,500 people were killed in the World Trade Center, almost entirely civilians.

Khadr: I feel sorry for those killed. But Americans kill civilians in Afghanistan. Nobody said anything to them. They killed about 100 persons in a wedding caravan and other place they had killed about the same thing, 100, 115 in a wedding. Nobody blamed them for doing it. And they have the most advanced technology in missiles and controls. So you cannot say they missed because they knew what they’re hitting. If their planes couldn’t see it, the satellites couldn’t see it, then it’s not a superpower, they shouldn’t start hitting everybody. Accusing everybody of anything if they can’t see.

PBS: What were your impressions of Osama bin Laden? I guess you saw him for the first time as a young boy. What were your impressions of him?

Khadr: He was very quiet person. He would eventually get his respect. You would respect what he says. If he talks, he talks very slowly. He never jokes, very quiet person, very polite. He could be a saint, something like a saint.

At Khadr’s preliminary trial for extradition in July 2006, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin weighed in for Abdullah’s rights by saying: “The family came in many, many years ago and they obtained Canadian citizenship many years ago. They have Canadian citizenship. We don’t have two classes of citizens.”

Mr. Martin neglected to say that Abdullah comes from a line of Muslim terrorists. His father Ahmed Said Khadr, known throughout the Arabian world as “al-Kanadi” or “the Canadian,” was a leading al-Qaeda member who was killed in 2003 by the Pakistani army.

Abdullah’s brother Omar is currently detained in the US prison camp at Guantanamo Bay for killing an American soldier in Afghanistan in 2002.

His youngest brother Abdul was left half-paralyzed from gunshot wounds sustained when Pakistani forces raided an al-Qaeda camp near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in October 2003.

All of the Khadr children, including Abdullah, were raised in al-Qaeda training camps. Elsamnah Khadr, Abullah’s mother, was quoted in the Toronto Globe and Mail as saying: “Would you like me to raise my child in Canada to be, by the time he’s 12 or 13 years old, to be on drugs or having some homosexual relationship? Is it better?”

In 2004, Elsamnah transported her remaining children back to Toronto so that her wounded son Abdul could take full advantage of the Canadian healthcare system. She appeared in full burqa before the throng of reporters who gathered at her home in Scarborough to say: “We’ve just been to the [Ontario Health Insurance Plan] office. That’s it. They said we have to fill out forms. I’m proud of what we are and I’m proud we’re in Canada now.”

The application met with immediate approval.

The saga of the Khadr family and the decision by Judge Speyer should cause all Americans to shudder. It illustrates the fact that the Canadian government remains reluctant to address the problem of Islamic terrorism even when radical Muslims perform egregious acts. Terrorists from Canada, even those who have killed members of US-led coalition forces (including fellow Canadians) retain the rights to political asylum, public welfare, and Canadian passports.

Why, therefore, would any self-respecting terrorist feel compelled to wade across the Rio Grande?

Concerning the threat from America’s neighbor to the north, Walter Todd Huston writes:

Al Qaeda understands well that Canada happily creates the conditions by which those attacks can be planned and fostered. Islamofascist operatives worldwide understand that Canada offers a rich bounty of social programs, a lax law enforcement culture and a visceral hatred of the USA that is growing with every year, all verdant soil in which to plant the hatred of Islamofascism.

Al Qaeda knows that if one of their operatives is arrested in Canada it is pretty sure that no prosecution or even deportment will result. Further they know that even if arrested once, this does not eliminate the possibility of an operative carrying on his efforts as many are arrested and released multiple times before anything more stringent is applied to them.

Swedish education minister moves against burqa

From Eye on the World:

Stockholm - The leaders of Swedish schools and universities should be allowed to ban students from wearing clothes that cover their faces, including Islamic veils such as the full-body burqa and the full-face niqab, Education Minister Jan Bjorklund said Wednesday.

MSM Shows Up Late to the Game. As Usual

Read this and then Revere's post below. And our other posts about Shukrijumah here.

Shukrijumah has been a serious threat for a very long time. And no one has done more to try to bring attention to him and help locate him than Paul Williams.

Like shining a light on the roaches in the dark corners.

So it would be ludicrous and laughable that the MSM is suddenly talking about Shukrijumah. If he weren't so fucking dangerous.

And pardon me cynical self if I don't get a whiff of something political in their coverage. November is coming after all and it wouldn't be the first time the media put politics over National Security.

They should have been wall to wall about this guy years ago.

Good on Judi McLeod at CFP for pointing this out.

Thanks to Michael Travis for sending this over.

Canada Free Press:

El Shukrijumah’s Irish Nightmare
By Judi McLeod Thursday, July 1, 2010

The first person I thought about when elusive al Qaeda terrorist Adnan El Shukrijumah resurfaced in the news was author/columnist Paul L. Williams.

I knew that Williams would be all but drowned out by the “me, me, me’s” of those websites who would make it prime news that they had written about the bounty-on-his head terrorist first, rather than the news that matters most, why after all these years has the FBI not been able to capture him?

The first time I heard the name El Shukrijumah was from the lips of Williams, who, in his own way, is an expert on the man who is said to have taken over jihad for the evil Osama bin Laden.

Although Williams and I sort of went, (Al and Tipper like), our separate ways, there is no doubt that no one has done more to try to find the still on the loose El Shukrijumah. For this personally and costly pursuit, Williams got no thanks and sometimes even ridicule for staying on the terrorist’s track.

Williams, the author of Day of Islam, didn’t just track the elusive El Shukrijumah from the safety of the pages of a book, but went out on the road to dangerous places where he thought the jihadist could be lurking.

On a tipoff from Williams, CFP wrote back on June 6, 2007 that the high-flying, ever-elusive Adnan Gulshair El-Shukrijumah now had warts. “One of his biggest warts is Russell DeFreitas, the authority described “sad sack” and then suspected wannabe terrorist behind the badly bungled John F. Kennedy Airport plot.

“While average guy, could-be-anybody looks have made him the Artful Dodger of the world of International Terrorism, El Shukrijumah has had his legendary mystique seriously shaken. Officials have told ABCNews.com that they heard repeated references to “Adnan” during extensive wiretaps conducted on the suspects’ telephone calls, including calls to Guyana and Trinidad”.

It was Williams’ voice in the wilderness that first zeroed in on El Shukrijumah as “Osama bin Laden’s point man, whose mission it is to nuke seven American cities” and who warned authorities in countless unanswered letters that he was no longer a one-man cell.

El Shukrijumah, who is said to have attended flight schools in Florida and Norma, Oklahoma, along with Mohammad Atta and other 9/11 operatives, became a highly skilled commercial jet pilot. “Jafer the Pilot” is one of his more recognized nicknames.

It was also Paul Williams, who pointed out that nondescript in both face and figure, El Shukrijumah, never needed expensive time out for plastic surgery as he fits in most anywhere.

With a $5-million FBI bounty on his head El Shukrijumah has made a career of playing the phantom.

In no matter what guise or which of the several passports he happens to be using, El Shukrijumah is, among other things, the quintessential illegal alien.

It was Williams who reminded authorities that the only thing he can’t fake is the asthma from which he is said to suffer.

It is mysterious how El Shukrijumah’s name now comes crashing into news headlines again, and given the circumstances that the Washington Post now claims that Shukrijumah “is among the top candidates to be al Qaida’s next head of external operations.”

It must be the fighting Irish in him that kept Paul Williams against all odds on “Shuki’s (his personal nickname) track.

Meanwhile, no matter where Jafer the Pilot is holed up, he gets no peace from Williams and can’t help but get that niggling prickling at the back of his neck about raised Irish dander that never goes away.

Shukrijumah New Head of Al Qaeda Says FBI

"Jafar the Pilot" just got kicked upstairs. According to the FBI, Adnan Shukrijumah, 35, has taken over Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's old job as Al Qaeda chief of global operations, FOX News is reporting. Probably the best go-to for background on Shukrijumah is Dr. Paul Williams, who covered his previous jihadist globetrotting in his 2007 book "The Day of Islam". Adnan is one nasty, and dangerous, piece of work.

Report: New Al Qaeda Leader Knows U.S. Well
Published August 06, 2010
Associated Press

MIAMI -- A suspected Al Qaeda operative who lived for more than 15 years in the U.S. has become chief of the terror network's global operations, the FBI says, marking the first time a leader so intimately familiar with American society has been placed in charge of planning attacks.

Adnan Shukrijumah, 35, has taken over a position once held by 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was captured in 2003, Miami-based FBI counterterrorism agent Brian LeBlanc told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview. That puts him in regular contact with Al Qaeda's senior leadership, including Osama bin Laden, LeBlanc said.

Shukrijumah and two other leaders were part of an "external operations council" that designed and approved terrorism plots and recruits, but his two counterparts were killed in U.S. drone attacks, leaving Shukrijumah as the de facto chief and successor to Mohammed -- his former boss.

"He's making operational decisions is the best way to put it," said LeBlanc, the FBI's lead Shukrijumah investigator. "He's looking at attacking the U.S. and other Western countries. Basically through attrition, he has become his old boss."

The FBI has been searching for Shukrijumah since 2003. He is thought to be the only Al Qaeda leader to have once held permanent U.S. resident status, or a green card.

Shukrijumah was named earlier this year in a federal indictment as a conspirator in the case against three men accused of plotting suicide bomb attacks on New York's subway system in 2009. The indictment marked the first criminal charges against Shukrijumah, who previously had been sought only as a witness.

Shukrijumah is also suspected of playing a role in plotting of potential Al Qaeda bomb attacks in Norway and a never-executed attack on subways in the United Kingdom, but LeBlanc said no direct link has yet emerged. Travel records and other evidence also indicate Shukrijumah did research and surveillance in spring 2001 for a never-attempted plot to disrupt commerce in the Panama Canal by sinking a freighter there, LeBlanc said.

Shukrijumah, who trained at Al Qaeda's Afghanistan camps in the late 1990s, was labeled a "clear and present danger" to the U.S. in 2004 by then-Attorney General John Ashcroft. The U.S. is offering a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture and the FBI also is releasing an age-enhanced photo of what he may look like today.

It's natural he would focus on attacking on the U.S, LeBlanc said.

"He knows how the system works. He knows how to get a driver's license. He knows how to get a passport," LeBlanc said.

Shukrijumah's mother, Zurah Adbu Ahmed, said Thursday on the front stoop of her small home in suburban Miramar, Fla., that her son frequently talked about what he considered the excesses of American society -- such as alcohol and drug abuse and women wearing skimpy clothes -- but that he did not condone violence. She also said she has not had contact with her son for several years.

"This boy would never do evil stuff. He is not an evil person," she said. "He loved this country. He never had a problem with the United States."

LeBlanc said the new charges were brought after the New York subway bomb suspects identified him to investigators as their Al Qaeda superior. The New York suspects provided other key information about his Al Qaeda status.

"It was basically Adnan who convinced them to come back to the United States and do this attack," LeBlanc said. "His ability to manipulate someone like that and direct that, I think it speaks volumes."

Before turning to radical strains of Islam, Shukrijumah lived in Miramar with his mother and five siblings, excelling at computer science and chemistry courses while studying at community college. He had come to South Florida in 1995 when his father, a Muslim cleric and missionary trained in Saudi Arabia, decided to take a post at a Florida mosque after several years at a mosque in Brooklyn, N.Y.

At some point in the late 1990s, according to the FBI, Shukrijumah became convinced that he must participate in "jihad," or holy war, to fight perceived persecution against Muslims in places like Chechnya and Bosnia.

That led to training camps in Afghanistan, where he underwent basic and advanced training in the use of automatic weapons, explosives, battle tactics, surveillance and camouflage.

"What's dangerous about an individual that understands the U.S. is he may have a better sense of our security vulnerabilities and insights into how to terrify the American people using smaller attacks for large, political impact," said Brian Fishman, a counterterrorism research fellow at the New America Foundation. "This increases the risk of attacks outside traditional places we normally worry about like New York and Washington."

Shukrijumah was born in Saudi Arabia. He is a citizen of Guyana, a small South American country where his father was born. His father died in 2004.

While still in Afghanistan, he met another young recruit -- Jose Padilla, an American citizen once suspected of plotting to set off a radioactive "dirty bomb" and now imprisoned on a 2007 terrorism material support conviction in Miami. At one point, according to interrogations of Padilla and other Al Qaeda detainees, Shukrijumah and Padilla were paired in a plot to fill apartments in several high-rise apartment buildings with natural gas and blow them up, but they had a falling out.

"They just couldn't get along. It's like two guys that could not work together," LeBlanc said.

The FBI is still hoping to bring charges in South Florida against Shukrijumah, but key information about him was provided by Guantanamo Bay detainees such as Mohammed, whose use as a witness would be difficult.

"For us, it's never been a dry hole. It's always been an active investigation and it's global in nature," LeBlanc said. "We have never stopped working it."

Bloggers DO Make a Difference

In this case, a hearty well-done to Gateway Pundit.

New York Daily News:

Book aimed at gay teens banned from N.J. public library after complaints from Glenn Beck supporter
BY Meena Hartenstein

Complaints from a member of Glenn Beck's 9.12 Project have caused a New Jersey library to shelve a book aimed at gay teenagers.

The book, called "Revolutionary Voices: A Multicultural Queer Youth Anthology," is a collection of first-person essays by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender teens, sharing their stories of coming out of the closet.

Calling it "pervasively vulgar, obscene, and inappropriate," Beverly Marinelli, a New Jersey mother, successfully lobbied to have the book removed from the library at Rancocas Valley Regional High School, the Talking Points Memo (TPM) website reports.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Marinelli's efforts were inspired by right-wing blogger Gateway Pundit's attacks on Kevin Jennings, President Obama's openly gay Assistant Deputy Secretary for Safe and Drug-Free schools.

Marinelli and another member of Beck's 9.12 Project also lodged a similar complaint in another nearby school district.

Librarians responded quickly to the complaints, ordering all copies of the book to be taken out of circulation.

"We need to pull 'Revolutionary Voices' from our shelves," librarian Gail Sweet wrote in an email, obtained by TPM. "Copies need to totally disappear."

Sweet called the book "child pornography" when asked to explain why the library had banned it.

"We do not like to remove books," Sweet wrote in an email. "It was felt, however, that the book was not appropriate."

"Revolutionary Voices" was named among the best adult books for high school students by the School Library Journal in 2001, and was in the school's library to help young people struggling with issues of sexuality.

Though Marinelli has not read much of the book, according to the Inquirer, she did cite a specific illustration of Boy Scouts watching two men have sex, calling it "the worst."

She says she isn't a "homophobe," just a "normal mother and grandmother" defending her conservative values.

"We did it for the children," she told the Inquirer.

According to its official website, Beck's 9.12 Project is aimed at Americans "looking for direction in taking back control of our country."

Marinelli identifies herself as Burlington County member of the group and once posted on a 9.12 Project website that she is "disgusted w/ what this Administration is doing and what is happening to our country."

In the fall, TPM reports, she took part in a protest against "indoctrination" at a local elememtary school, railing against a video of students singing Obama's praises.

Another Win for Rifqa!

Rifqa Bary moved another step closer to freedom yesterday. FOX has the good news here. The parents' attorney claims they are concerned for her health. These are the same parents who would likely have a headsman there to greet her if she were sent back to Sri Lanka.

Judge: Runaway Christian Girl Not Required to Reunite With Muslim Parents
Published August 05, 2010
Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A juvenile court judge in Columbus, Ohio, has granted a runaway Christian convert's request to declare reunion with her Muslim parents impossible, paving the way for the girl to fight deportation.

Magistrate Mary Goodrich said Thursday that reconciliation between Rifqa Bary and her parents isn't possible before she turns 18 on Tuesday. Goodrich also said it's not in the girl's best interest to return her to her native Sri Lanka.

Bary is an illegal immigrant. The ruling allows her attorneys to file for a special immigration status to allow her to stay in the U.S. while she continues medical treatment following recent surgery for uterine cancer.

Bary fled to Florida last year saying she feared harm for her conversion. Her parents deny she would have been harmed. The immigration status of the parents, who live in the Columbus area, is unclear.

Bary underwent successful cancer surgery in May and then was scheduled for 45 weeks of chemotherapy , which would give her an "80 to 90 percent chance" she'd be fine, Omar Tarazi, an attorney for Bary's parents, told the judge.

Instead, Bary stopped the chemotherapy after two or three rounds, deciding she'd been healed, Tarazi said. In a court filing last week, the girl's parents claimed she stopped after visiting a faith healer.

"The parents are feeling helpless," Tarazi said. "They feel like this is such a critical issue that it be in writing."

Goodrich said she understood why Bary's parents, Mohamed and Aysha Bary of suburban Columbus, filed the request. "I've never gotten the impression they didn't care very much for their daughter," she said.

A letter from Bary's doctor recommending the 45 weeks of chemotherapy indicates she is cancer free for now according to available imaging technology, Bary's attorney, Kort Gatterdam, told the judge.

The letter also says she suffers from a rare form of cancer for which there is no standard treatment.

Rifqa Bary stopped the treatment after becoming sick and in consultation with her doctor, Gatterdam said. He disputed the faith healer allegation, saying Bary had attended a prayer conference after which she continued with surgeries and other treatment.

"Rifqa's not saying she'll never do the treatment again, that she'll never do chemo," Gatterdam said. "She'll continue working with her doctor."

Brooklyn Tea Party Pledges for Candidates

On September 12th, the Brooklyn Tea Party will be holding a rally at the 69th Street Pier.  We are actively seeking speakers and would greatly appreciate any recommendations and leads you provide.  I am currently pursuing representatives of The Club for Growth and Citizens Against Government Waste.

Many candidates we have had speak to our group previously, as well as others, would like to speak at our rally.  However, to separate those we would like to give publicity to from those who would just use our credibility, I propose their acceptance of pledges be a prerequisite.

Below are six suggested pledges I would like to require of candidates who wish to speak at our rally.  Please feel free to criticize these and suggest others.

Personally, I would like to add a commitment to use the words culturism and culturist to counterbalance multiculturalism and disarm the constant abuse of the word ‘racist’ by those who do not wish to discuss the negative aspects of diversity.

Your feedback on the culturism pledge, the other pledges, and possible speakers, is greatly needed and appreciated.

Pledges for Brooklyn Tea Party Candidates:

                1)         - Whereas the reduction of our deficit will require sacrifice;
Pledge to propose legislation to cut all government salaries by 20%.

                2)         -Whereas stimulus plans and the associated borrowing undermine
our national solvency and character;
Pledge to fight to have the unspent stimulus monies applied directly to the reduction of our debt and vote against any further exceptions to the Pay-As-You-Go Budget Rule.

    3)         - Whereas civic participation is weakened by national initiatives and strengthened by local community participation;
Pledge to triple the tax deduction for local charitable giving.

   4)          - Whereas we have national sovereignty, are at war with Islam, and no international right exists for foreign nations to build mosques in our nation;
Pledge to fight the building of the 9 – 11 mosque.

  5)          - Whereas the stability of our nation rests on the reduction of the debt and we must also ask for sacrifice from the off-spring of the greatest generation;
Pledge to propose legislation to take social security and medicare away from those making over 225,000 dollars a year upon their retirement.

6)             - Whereas unemployment is well above 10% and our nation cannot assimilate unlimited numbers of peoples from foreign cultures;
Pledge to build a fence along our Southern border and denounce attacks on Arizona’s laws.
