Jimmy Carter: North Korean Regime Deserves Our Respect

From Gateway Pundit:

A media person walks at houses destroyed by North Korean shelling on the Yeonpyeong Island, South Korea, Friday, Nov. 26, 2010. North Korea warned Friday that planned U.S.-South Korean military drills are pushing the peninsula to the brink of war. (AP/Lee Jin-man)

The North Korean regime attacked South Korea killing 2 Korean Marines and 2 civilians.
Thank goodness Jimmy Carter was there to defend them.
Via Verum Serumand The Washington Post:
No one can completely understand the motivations of the North Koreans, but it is entirely possible that their recent revelation of their uranium enrichment centrifuges and Pyongyang’s shelling of a South Korean island Tuesday are designed to remind the world that they deserve respect in negotiations that will shape their future.

a parable on muslim immigration.

A young girl was trudging along a mountain path, trying to reach her grandmother's house.
It was bitter cold, and the wind cut like a knife.
When she was within sight of her destination, she heard a rustle at her feet.

Looking down, she saw a snake.
Before she could move, the snake spoke to her.
He said, "I am about to die.
It is too cold for me up here, and I am freezing.
There is no food in these mountains, and I am starving.
Please put me under your coat and take me with you."

"No," replied the girl. "I know your kind. You are a rattlesnake.
If I pick you up, you will bite me, and your bite is poisonous."

"No, no," said the snake. "If you help me, you will be my best friend.
I will treat you differently."

The little girl sat down on a rock for a moment to rest and think things over.
She looked at the beautiful markings on the snake and had to admit that it was the most beautiful snake she had ever seen.

Suddenly, she said, "I believe you. I will save you.
All living things deserve to be treated with kindness."

The little girl reached over, put the snake gently under her coat and proceeded toward her grandmother's house.

Within a moment, she felt a sharp pain in her side.
The snake had bitten her.

"How could you do this to me?" she cried.
"You promised that you would not bite me, and I trusted you!"

"You knew what I was when you picked me up," hissed the snake as he slithered away.

Breaking: Feds Arrest Somali-Born Teen in Car Bomb Plot at Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

How come the Feds only nail them in sting operations and leave it to civilians to stop the active real plots? Huh?

This is the kind of attack I've been expecting and which I predict, when it is "successful" will start a real war.

A Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, with women and children.

This is the evil of Islam manifested.

PORTLAND, Oregon -- Federal prosecutors say a Somali-born teenager plotted to carry out a car bomb attack at a crowded Christmas tree lighting ceremony in downtown Portland on Friday but the bomb turned out to be a dud supplied by undercover agents as part of a sting.

Mohamed Osman Mohamud was arrested at about 5:45 p.m. local time just after he dialed a mobile phone that he thought would blow up a van laden with explosives but instead brought federal agents and local police swooping in to take him into custody.

Federal court documents show the sting operation began in June after an undercover agent learned that Mohamud had been in contact with an "unindicted associate" in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier region.

Mohamud is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Yelling "Allahu Akbar!" — Arabic for "God is great!" — Mohamud tried to kick agents and police after he was taken into custody, according to prosecutors.

"The threat was very real," said Arthur Balizan, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. "Our investigation shows that Mohamud was absolutely committed to carrying out an attack on a very grand scale,"

Islam -- an Imperialist Political Ideology

When was Islam created? Islamic mythology gives us a portrait of Islam’s founding in the early 7th century. Other sources confirm the rise of an Arab imperial state and political ideology to rationalize conquest and subjugation. But when did Islam, as a religion, assume its present form?
Most documents go back to the Abbasid Caliphate, which overthrew the Arab-centric Umayyad rule centering in Damascus. The Umayyad’s failure at Tours and failure to conquer Constantinople led to a crisis in faith. What were the religious practices prior to the Abbasid? The Wall Street Journal discusses some of the archeological evidence—a desert retreat of an Umayyad prince.
“More noteworthy than Qusayr Amra's architecture is its interior decoration. Brightly colored frescoes cover practically every inch of wall and ceiling—presenting images of battle and the hunt, symbols of the zodiac, and mythological scenes. … Indeed, for a bathhouse that once belonged to a Muslim prince, the imagery is shockingly profane, showing little regard for modesty, much less for religious prohibitions on the depiction of human and animal forms.

Qusayr Amra was probably built by the caliph al-Walid II between 724 and 743 while he was still an amir, or prince. Medieval sources (some of them exaggerated, no doubt) portray him as a reckless and profligate man, who allegedly used the Quran for target practice, sent a singing girl from his harem to lead the communal prayers, and planned to build an open air "martini deck" atop the Ka'ba in Mecca, where he could sip wine and gossip about the passers-by.

Qusayr Amra perfectly expressed al-Walid's alleged love of debauchery and power. All around, he placed frescoes of naked women—some dancing, others lifting basins of water. …

Al-Walid included another political statement on the hall's eastern wall. Here, we find six kings paying obeisance to members of al-Walid's family, who are shown nearby. With labels in Arabic and Greek, we can identify them as the rulers of Persia, Byzantium, Spain, Ethiopia, China and central Asia. They were the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient world, and by the time of al-Walid, several had fallen to the forces of Islam. The fresco thus celebrates Islam's victory over its enemies, as well as its role as heir and caretaker of the ancient past.
Islam was basically a political ideology before the Abbasid Caliphate needed a religious identity to unite Persians and Arabs. How much of the religion was written back into history by Islamic revisionists will always be hard to tell. It is much less than the religious mythology claims.

Iran: Muslim Convert to Christianity condemned to hanging on apostasy charges

A detained pastor of a major network of Christian house churches in Iran will be executed by hanging for “apostasy”, or abandoning Islam, according to translated court documents seen by Worthy News Wednesday, November 24. The 11th Chamber of The Assize Court of the province of Gilan said Iranian pastor Yousef Nadarkhani had proved his “apostasy” by “organizing evangelistic meetings and inviting others to Christianity, establishing a house church, baptizing people, expressing his faith to others and, denying Islamic values".

Yelling "Allahu Akbar!" Somali Would-Be Bomber of Portland Tree-Lighting Busted By Feds

Well, Thanksgiving's over but here's some good news from FOX: Fed sting busts Somali immigrant's plot to start the Portland, Oregon, tree-lighting with a big jihadist bang.

Feds: Somali-born teen plotted car-bombing in Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Undercover agents in a sting operation stopped a Somali-born teenager from blowing up a van full of explosives at a crowded Christmas tree lighting ceremony in downtown Portland, federal authorities said.

The bomb was a dud supplied by the agents and the public was never in danger, authorities said.

Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Friday just after he dialed a cell phone that he thought would set off the blast but instead brought federal agents and police swooping down on him.

[And now note the one carefully indirect and unspecified reference to Mo's Muslim motivation.]

The FBI affidavit that outlined the investigation alleges that Mohamud planned the attack for months, at one point mailing bomb components to FBI operatives, whom he believed were assembling the device.

It said Mohamud was warned several times about the seriousness of his plan, that women and children could be killed, and that he could back out, but he told agents: "Since I was 15 I thought about all this;" and "It's gonna be a fireworks show ... a spectacular show."

Mohamud, a naturalized U.S. citizen living in Corvallis, was charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and is scheduled for a court appearance Monday. Few details were available about him late Friday.

Authorities allowed the plot to proceed in order to build up enough evidence to charge the suspect with attempt.

Officials didn't say if the suspect had any ties to other Americans recently accused of trying to carry out attacks on U.S. soil, including alleged efforts in May by a Pakistan-born man to set off a car bomb near Times Square or another Pakistan-born Virginia resident accused last month in a bomb plot to kill commuters.

U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton released federal court documents to The Associated Press and the Oregonian newspaper that show the sting operation began in June after an undercover agent learned that Mohamud had been in regular e-mail contact with an "unindicted associate" in Pakistan's northwest, a frontier region where Al Qaida and Afghanistan's Taliban insurgents are strong.

The two used coded language in which the FBI believes Mohamud discussed traveling to Pakistan to prepare for "violent jihad," the documents said.

In June an FBI agent contacted Mohamud "under the guise of being affiliated with" the suspected terrorist. But the documents did not say how federal officials first became aware of Mohamud.

An undercover agent met with him a month later in Portland, where they "discussed violent jihad," according to the court documents.

As a trial run, Mohamud and agents detonated a bomb in Oregon's backcounry earlier this month.

"This defendant's chilling determination is a stark reminder that there are people — even here in Oregon — who are determined to kill Americans," Holton said.

Friday, an agent and Mohamud drove to downtown Portland in a white van that carried six 55-gallon drums with detonation cords and plastic caps, but all of them were inert, the complaint states.

They left the van near the downtown ceremony site and went to a train station where Mohamud was given a cell phone that he thought would blow up the vehicle, according to the complaint. There was no detonation when he dialed, and when he tried again federal agents and police made their move.

Yes, but I heard it was the point guard on the Wasilla team

President Barack Obama needed 12 stitches in his upper lip after taking an errant elbow during a pickup basketball game Friday morning with family and friends visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday, the White House said.

First word of the injury came in a statement from press secretaryRobert Gibbs nearly three hours after the incident.

The White House did not initially name the person who caused the injury, but identified him later Friday as Rey Decerega, director of programs for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.

Obama received the stitches under local anesthesia in the doctor's office on the ground floor of the White House after returning home. Doctors used a smaller filament than typically used, which increases the number of stitches but makes a tighter stitch and leaves a smaller scar.

The president had gone to nearby Fort McNair to indulge in a game of basketball, one of his favorite athletic pursuits. It was a five-on-five contest involving family and friends. Among the players were Obama's nephew, Avery Robinson, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Reggie Love, Obama's personal assistant, who played at Duke University.

S. Korean Commander Vows 'Thousand-Fold' Retaliation

SEONGNAM, South Korea – Dignitaries placed white chrysanthemums on a funeral altar Saturday as South Korea honored two marines killed in a North Korean artillery attack that was one of the worst bombardments of its territory since the 1950-53 Korean War.

The South Korean marines commander vowed unspecified "thousand-fold" retaliation at the funeral, as the country geared up for joint military maneuvers with the U.S. starting Sunday that are likely to keep tensions soaring following the attack on a South Korean island — which also killed two civilians.

North Korea issued new warnings Saturday against the Yellow Sea war games, calling them an "unpardonable provocation" and warning of retaliatory attacks that would "turn the stronghold of enemies into a sea of fire" if its own territory is violated.

The comments ran on the state-run Uriminzokkiri website, and came a day after the North's warnings that the peninsula was on the "brink of war."

China, under pressure from the U.S. and South Korea to rein in its ally Pyongyang, urged both sides to show restraint while Washington played down the belligerent rhetoric, noting that the weekend war games were routine and planned well before last week's attack.

"The pressing task now is to put the situation under control and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi told U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton by phone Friday, according to the ministry's website.

The North's strike Tuesday destroyed large parts of Yeonpyeong Island in a major escalation of their sporadic skirmishes along the disputed sea border. The attack — eight months after a torpedo sank a South Korean warship, killing 46 sailors — has laid bare Seoul's weaknesses in defense 60 years after the Korean War.

South Korea's government has struggled to recoup from the surprise attacks, replacing the defense minister on Friday.

A dispatch Friday from Chinese state media saying Beijing's foreign minister had met the North Korean ambassador appeared to be an effort to trumpet China's role as a responsible actor and placate the U.S. and the South.

"The Chinese government is trying to send Pyongyang a signal that if they continue to be so provocative, China will just leave the North Koreans to themselves," said Zhu Feng, director of Peking University's Center for International and Strategic Studies.

In Seongnam, near Seoul, about 600 mourners including South Korea's Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik and the marine commander Maj. Gen. You Nak-jun attended the funeral for the two marines at a packed gymnasium in a military hospital as somber music played.

Dignitaries and family members placed chrysanthemums — a traditional flower of mourning in South Korea — before framed photographs of the two victims, who were posthumously promoted by one rank and awarded a medal.

"Our marine corps ... will carry out a hundred- or thousand-fold," retaliation against North Korea for launching Tuesday's attack, You said, without elaborating.

The Pentagon played down any notion that the weekend maneuvers with South Korea were a provocation.

"We have exercised there regularly," said Capt. Darryn James, a Defense Department spokesman in Washington said Friday. "And all of these exercises are in international waters."

President Lee Myung-bak has ordered reinforcements for the 4,000 troops on Yeonpyeong and four other Yellow Sea islands, as well as top-level weaponry and upgraded rules of engagement.

The heightened animosity between the Koreas comes as the North undergoes a delicate transition of power from leader Kim Jong Il to his young, inexperienced son Kim Jong Un, who is in his late 20s and is expected to eventually succeed his ailing father.

North Korea does not recognize the maritime border drawn by the U.N. in 1953, and considers the waters around Yeonpyeong Island its territory. The island is home to South Korean military bases as well as a civilian population of about 1,300 people, and lies only seven miles (11 kilometers) from North Korean shores.

UPDATED AND BUMPED: Remember How The Media Told Us Obama's Grandmother In Kenya Was A Christian

UPDATE: The New York Times posts IBA's post on their International News (Kenya) page.
The fact is, the NYT publishes many IBA posts (usually two or three a week), so I am not posting this to brag. Instead, I am posting it because I think it is humorous that this post, which is just a tad derogatory of the MSM (yes, just a bit) is now on the New York Times website.

It would have been nice if they would have reported the truth back before Obama got elected. And, it would have been even nicer if they didn't repeatedly infer that people like us are racists and nutcases.

Problem is, I am a nutcase, and MR, well, he's racist against Eskimoes, so maybe the NYT is right about us, after all.

I wonder if Obama is just as much a Christian as she is?

From Gateway:

Obama’s Christian Grandmother Prays He Converts to Islam

Two years ago this is what the state-run media said about Barack Obama’s step-grandmother before the 2008 election.

The AP slammed the disgusting “untruths” written about Barack Obama in an interview with his step-grandmother in Kenya on March 5, 2008:
Obama’s grandma slams ‘untruths’
Obama’s grandfather had converted to Islam from Roman Catholicism and taken the name Hussein, Sarah Obama said, but his children had inherited only the name, not the religion. Each person should be able to choose how they worshipped, she said.
“In the world of today, children have different religions from their parents,” she said. She, too, is a Christian.
Too bad it was untrue…
They later were forced to correct their own “untruths”.
This week Obama’s Christian step-grandmother told reporters that she hopes Barack converts to Islam:
Sarah Omar, 88, who was on hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, told the Al-Qatan Saudi daily: “I prayed for my grandson Barack to convert to Islam”.

Blasphemy resolution passes U.N. committee

india actual translation purdah screen veil btw popular protest instruction

From Weasel Zippers:
(RNS) A resolution combating the “vilification of religions” was adopted Tuesday (Nov. 23) by a United Nations committee, but religious freedom advocates who oppose the measure say support for it continues to diminish.

The resolution by Islamic countries is scheduled to be considered by the U.N. General Assembly in December.

The vote — 76 yes, 64 no, and 42 abstentions — received fewer affirmative votes than last year, said Freedom House, a human rights group that has worked against the resolution.

“We are disappointed that this pernicious resolution has passed yet again, despite strong evidence that legal measures to restrict speech are both ineffective and a direct violation of freedom of expression,” said Paula Schriefer, director of advocacy at Freedom House.

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, an independent bipartisan panel, said the measure’s diminished support shows some countries think the resolution can do more harm than good.
“Religious intolerance is best fought through efforts to encourage respect for every individual’s human rights, not through national or international anti-blasphemy laws,” said USCIRF Chair Leonard Leo.

Days before its passage, the Organization of the Islamic Conference relabeled the resolution as condemning “vilification of religions” instead of “defamation of religions,” but U.S. officials and advocates continued to oppose it.

Obama Likely to Get Thumped in 2012 If Current Trend Continues

Obama Is A Pussy
From Gateway:

If the present trend continues, the country will be saved from Barack Obama in 2012.
Obama has lost ground among all groups except those with graduate degrees. Go figure.
Byron York at The Washington Examiner reported:
We’re fast approaching the halfway point in Barack Obama’s term. With Nov. 2 behind him, everything the president does will be calculated to boost, or at least not harm, his chances of re-election in 2012. What’s not clear is whether he fully appreciates how badly the coalition he led to victory in 2008 has frayed in just two years. A look inside his poll numbers suggests that if he cannot turn around some key trends, he’ll be a one-term president.
Just look at the exit polls from 2008, which reveal the demographic contours of Obama’s support. Compare those with Gallup’s weekly analysis of the president’s approval rating, drawn from multiple polls broken down by age, gender, political philosophy, and the like. Throw in some insights from the midterm elections, and the mix shows a dramatic deterioration in Obama’s 2008 support. “His majority coalition is not there,” says Republican pollster David Winston. “What he put together, at least in the way he put it together, just isn’t there.”
Start with voters who call themselves independents. Obama won 52 percent of them in 2008; now, according to Gallup, he is at 42 percent. Obama’s party as a whole fared even worse among independents in the midterms, losing them to Republicans by 19 points. If Obama does anywhere near that badly in 2012, he’ll lose.
Next, women. In 2008, Obama won 56 percent of female voters. Today, he’s at 49 percent. If that number doesn’t improve, he’ll be in deep trouble. (Obama is also down with men, from 49 percent in 2008 to 44 percent now.)
Even younger voters, a key part of Obama’s coalition, are peeling away. In ’08, Obama won 66 percent of voters 18-29 years of age. Now, he’s at 58 percent. That might seem pretty good, but not when you consider his deterioration among other age groups. Obama has dropped 5 percentage points among voters in and around middle age, and 8 percent with voters above 65. If those trends continue, he’ll lose.
Then there are white voters. In ’08, Obama won 43 percent of whites. Now, he’s at 37 percent — a dangerously low number for his re-election hopes. He won 67 percent of Hispanic voters in 2008; now, he’s at 58 percent. Even support among black voters, a bedrock for Obama, has ticked downward; after winning 95 percent of blacks in ’08, he’s now at 89 percent.
Just one group has stuck with Obama through it all. In ’08, he won 58 percent of people with graduate degrees. Now, he’s at 59 percent.

Victor Davis Hanson On North Korea And The Obama Administration

From The Corner:
North Korea and the Ripple Effects of Obama’s Foreign Policy
By Victor Davis Hanson
Posted on November 23, 2010 12:51 PM

...[A]fter 22 months of apologizing, bowing, and contextualizing supposed American sins from the trivial (lamenting the Arizona law in a meeting with the Chinese) to the profound (the mythical Cairo speech, unilaterally pressing Israel right out of the starting gate), the Obama administration has sent the message that it may not be so comfortable with America’s past unilateral responsibilities to its allies, and may even sympathize with some of the grievances of our purported enemies. Whether this assessment is fair or not, that’s the message they’ve sent.

Dismissing the idea that past global problems might transcend George W. Bush, this administration operated as if a charismatic world citizen, with reset magic, could win over the globe to a U.N.-sponsored utopia. These false assumptions intrigued the curious abroad — why would Obama seek to advance such absurd notions about global problems having originated with U.S. belligerence circa 2001–2009 and being resolved by U.S. empathy in 2009–2010? Apparently, as we are now learning, North Korea wants to find out the answer.

In general, listlessness and misdirection in Washington always ripple out to the world abroad within a year or two....

...[T]he commander-in-chief needs to stop his contextualizing and apologizing, especially this pernicious messianic notion that, as an empathetic and post-national president, his mission is to redeem a previously culpable America. Otherwise, in the next two years that nonsense is going to get people killed.
I hold no hope that BHO is going to reform his attitude or his policies. Do you?

So, this man is going to get a lot of people killed. It's a foregone conclusion now.

If any who voted for Barack Hussein Obama are reading this, I lay the blame at your feet. You wouldn't heed any of the warnings sounded. The warnings were plentiful, and you just went along with your mania to put this man into the Oval Office.

North Korea, a little piss ant of a country, has called BHO's hand, and he'll botch the handling of the situation.

Epic fail.

An epic fail that would not put America's interests first.

An epic fail that will get many people killed.

North Korea Wants War, and They Want It Now

From Yahoo:
North Korea warned Friday that U.S.-South Korean plans for military maneuvers put the peninsula on the brink of war, and appeared to launch its own artillery drills within sight of an island it showered with a deadly barrage this week.

The fresh artillery blasts were especially defiant because they came as the U.S. commander in South Korea, Gen. Walter Sharp, toured the South Korean island to survey damage from Tuesday's hail of North Korean artillery fire that killed four people.

None of the latest rounds hit the South's territory, and U.S. military officials said Sharp did not even hear the concussions, though residents on other parts of the island panicked and ran back to the air raid shelters where they huddled earlier in the week as white smoke rose from North Korean territory.

Tensions have soared between the Koreas since the North's strike Tuesday destroyed large parts of this island, killing two civilians as well as two marines in a major escalation of their sporadic skirmishes along the sea border.

The attack — eight months after a torpedo sank a South Korean warship further west, killing 46 sailors — has also laid bare weaknesses in South Korea's defense 60 years after the Korean War. The skirmish forced South Korea's beleaguered defense minister to resign Thursday, and President Lee Myung-bak on Friday named a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the post.

The heightened animosity between the Koreas is taking place as the North undergoes a delicate transition of power from leader Kim Jong Il to his young, inexperienced son Kim Jong Un, who is in his late 20s and is expected to eventually succeed his ailing father.
So, North Korea says the actions of the United States, in it's support of South Korea, are bringing the region to the brink of war.

They're challenging us.

I guess the question is, is Obama as much of a man as Leonardo D'Caprio?

Is the IRS Targeting Jewish Groups for Being Pro-Israel?

 From PJM:

In a major Politico article,  writer Ben Smith writes that Z Street, a hawkish pro-Israel group that consciously bills itself as an alternative to the leftist J Street, reveals that the IRS may be targeting pro-Israel groups for seeking a tax exemption, solely on the grounds of their position. Writes Smith about the proposed query of an unnamed religious group that has no expressed position on Israel:

“Does your organization support the existence of the land of Israel?” IRS agent Tracy Dornette wrote the organization, according to this week’s court filing, as part of its consideration of the organizations application for tax exempt status. “Describe your organization’s religious belief system toward the land of Israel.

The document emerged in the course of a lawsuit filed in August by Z Street, a hawkish group that casts itself as the Zionist answer to the liberal J Street. Z Street claims that a different IRS agent reviewing its application for tax exempt status said the agency is “carefully scrutinizing organizations that are in any way connected with Israel” and that “a special unit” is determining whether its activities “contradict the Administration’s public policies.”
Let us pause at that last line — does the organization’s work “contradict the Administration’s public policies”? Imagine if the Reagan administration had scrutinized an anti-apartheid group because its demands for the economic boycott of South Africa contradicted the administration’s preference for quiet diplomacy? Frank Rich would be yelling his head off in the Sunday New York Times, Peter Beinart would be writing about the administration’s perfidy in The Daily Beast, and Hendrik Hertzberg would be pontificating loudly in the “Talk of the Town” lead column in next week’s New Yorker. I suspect that next week we will see nothing about this at all in their future contributions.

The IRS, of course, is supposed to investigate tax evasion — not to use its powers to punish groups or individuals who dissent from administration policy. And what is this so-called “special unit”? In my previous blog post, I wrote about how leftist think tanks are advising the Obama administration to use its executive powers to advance their agenda by bypassing Congress and ignoring the people’s will. Is this an example of this suggestion being put to use in a novel way?

Yesterday, the protest against the TSA invasive searches fizzled. Not a good sign for the preservation of our rights as defined in the United States Constitution.

India to deploy 36,000 extra troops on Chinese border

Officials say they were formed at the behest of the Indian army chief, General VK Singh - who said they were necessary to beef up defences against China.
Gen Singh was not available for comment but one of his staff officers, on condition of anonymity, told the BBC that the army chief had "pushed very hard to fast-track the raising of the two divisions".
He said that they should be "fully operational" by March 2011.
He said their formation was India's response to the "huge Chinese build-up" in Tibet over the last three to four years. But he did not wish to elaborate.
India is also raising a paramilitary force called the Arunachal Scouts and Sikkim Scouts to help the army protect the Sino-Indian border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
"All the men in these formations will be drawn from mountain-fit local tribesmen but the officers will be from the army, at least for a while," said a corps commander.
Their formation will be modelled on the Ladakh Scouts, who the army says bravely fought Pakistani intruders during the Kargil conflict of 1999.
India says the new measures have been put in place partly because China has "superb" communications on its side of the border, especially after a new train line to Lhasa was built in 2006.
India says that the Chinese airlift capability is also far superior.
The formation of the two new divisions means that India's deployments in the eastern sector of its border with China now matches the five army divisions that existed in 1986-87, when the two countries nearly went to war.
But after India and China signed a "Peace and Tranquillity" treaty in 1993, both sides scaled down their deployments as part of a confidence-building package.

AP h/t Gateway Pundit:

Pakistani Islamists Threaten Attacks If Christian Woman Is Set Free & Not Hanged

Around 250 hard-line Muslims staged a demonstration in the central Pakistani city of Lahore on Wednesday, warning the president not to pardon a Christian woman sentenced to death for insulting Islam.

They also denounced any attempt to change Pakistan’s blasphemy law, which critics say is often misused to persecute Christians like Asia Bibi and other minorities. Her case has prompted outrage from human rights groups and a personal appeal from Pope Benedict XVI for her release.

But hard-line Islamic groups in Pakistan have pushed back and some have even threatened officials in the past who suggested reforming or repealing the blasphemy law. These groups have significant power since politicians from the major parties rely on them for votes.

“We are ready to sacrifice our life for the Prophet Muhammad,” chanted protesters in Lahore — many of whom were students from Islamic seminaries in the city.

The rally was organized by the Movement for Protection of the Prophet’s Honor, a group of hard-line Sunni Muslims that was formed in 2001 to oppose changes in the blasphemy law.

Bibi, a 45-year-old mother of five, has said she was falsely accused by a group of Muslim women angry at a dispute over whether they could share the same water bowl. She has been jailed in the eastern province of Punjab since her initial arrest 1 1/2 years ago.

That's One Way To Piss On a Protest

If these scanners are so damn crucial to our security, then why did they turn them off at airports around the country? Especially at one like Newark?

You think maybe they're been *GASP!* lying about the need for them?

Newark airport controversial scanners are barely used on busiest travel day
Published: Thursday, November 25, 2010, 9:00 AM

NEWARK — The choice between a "virtual strip search" and a "grope" was strictly academic Wednesday for most holiday travelers flying out of Newark Liberty International Airport.

The majority of Newark’s full-body scanners were idle throughout much of the day, depriving most passengers of the chance to opt out of the controversial screening procedure even if they had wanted to.

All in all, Thanksgiving eve was a non-event at Newark Liberty, reflecting the relative calm reported at airports around the country.

"Things have gone very, very smoothly," said Ann Davis, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration. "Wait times have been kept to a minimum, and we’ve been very pleased to hear quite a few compliments and thank yous coming from passengers."

Davis could not say just how many passengers opted out of being scanned in Newark, though she said it was very few.

"I don’t have numbers," Davis said, "just an overall sense that passengers seem to be opting out of Opt Out."

The scanners produce detailed digital images of passengers’ bodies, and have been derided by civil libertarians as "visual strip searches." The TSA’s new, more aggressive pat-downs have been characterized as government-sponsored gropes, even "sexual assault," following complaints that screeners had touched male and female passengers’ genitals.

Early this month a web site, www.optoutday.com, urged passengers to opt out the scanning in protest, prompting concern that widespread participation in the so-called National Opt Out Day would cause delays at security checkpoints, because passengers opting out would have to submit to a lengthier screening process involving a metal detector and a pat-down.

The opt-out campaign was criticized by TSA Administrator John Pistole as "irresponsible," and this week he urged fliers not to participate, though it hardly seemed necessary. Polls say a majority of the general public support the scanners, and interviews with dozens of fliers in recent weeks suggests nearly unanimous support among those actually taking to the skies.

"If it’s in the interest of safety, it’s alright," Bob Wallace, a 40-year-old recruiter from Weehawken, said Wednesday, before a flight to Florida with his wife, Reveka, for Thanksgiving.

The Wallaces were headed into Checkpoint B-1 in Newark’s Terminal B, where a TSA spokeswoman said at least one of the checkpoint’s two scanners was in use at the time, though the scanners there are not visible from the unsecured area of the terminal. Nearly continuous monitoring of checkpoints B-2 and B-3 suggested the scanners at those two locations were not in use from early morning through mid-afternoon.

Throughout the day, lines at the checkpoints in all three terminals seemed to flow smoothly. If there were pat-downs, whether conducted randomly or due to opt-outs or other reasons, they were few and inconspicuous. An unusual abundance of the TSA’s blue-shirted screeners seemed to circulate throughout Newark’s terminals Wednesday.

Still, some passengers had mixed feelings about the new screening procedures.

"I have concerns," said Ifeoma Anekwe, lawyer from Jersey City. "Who’s looking at my image? Will it go on the Internet or will they delete my image?"

"I’ll go through the pat-down," Anekwe said. Even so, she added, "I don’t want my breast groped by a strange woman."

Fliers Claim TSA Have Deactivated Body Scanners

According to tweeting travelers, many backscatter and millimeter-wave AIT scanning machines at airports are not in use at all, making opting out impossible. We've asked DHS/TSA for comment, but you can help us confirm.

Not every airport in the country even has the "Advanced Imaging Technology" scanners installed. (A post at FlyerTalk.com has an up-to-date list of airports with the machines, as well as specific terminals. . .

. . .The presumption by some is that the TSA has deactivated the AIT machines in an effort to both increase throughput of travelers through the scanning process and to diffuse protest by the grassroots National Out-Out Day movement.

But as the AP photo shows, it's not always possible for a single passenger to determine if an airport is using the machines at every terminal or not.

Sharia in Britain: Blasphemy charge against 15 year old girl

From the BBC:
Girl, 15, arrested over 'Facebook Koran burning video'

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of inciting religious hatred after allegedly burning an English language version of the Koran.

The 15-year-old, who lives in the West Midlands, allegedly posted the video, filmed two weeks ago on her school premises, on Facebook.

The video was reported to the school and subsequently removed, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of making threats. Both have been released on police bail.

It is thought the girl, who lives in the Sandwell Council area, was allegedly filmed setting the booklet alight while other pupils watched.

Two Facebook profiles have also been removed from the site, police added.

It is understood that the group who published that version of the Koran have since been to the school to talk to pupils.
'Sacred thing'

Catherine Heseltine, chief executive officer of the Muslim Public Affairs Committee, said burning the Koran was one of the most offensive acts to Muslims that she could imagine.

She said: "The Koran is the most sacred thing to over a billion Muslims worldwide."

"You can see that in the way Muslims treat the Koran, washing before touching it and in many Muslim homes you will find it on the top shelf above all other books and we will never destroy the Koranic texts."

"We believe it is the word of God. God's guidance for us in this life," she added.

Bob Badham, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council cabinet member for education, said he had visited the school and believed the atmosphere was generally good among pupils.

He added that he did not believe there was a "deeper problem" in the area.

Obama’s Labor Dept. To Create Gov’t Sponsored ‘Labor News’ Agency?

Soviet propaganda posters
What is it called when a government creates a state-sponsored “news” agency, again? Ah yes, it’s called government propaganda. And that is what the Obama administration seems interested in creating if the words of Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis’s senior advisor Carl Fillichio can be believed.

The advisor to the Secretary of Labor told the audience that one of the things that vexed his department is that it was so hard to get their “news” reported by the media. “We battle every single day when we try to put something out,” Fillichio told the audience.

“We cannot depend on those other people – the traditional media – to get that message out,” Fillichio said.

Imagine what is being said here. A person of high position in the Department of Labor is proposing that he be the one to “report” labor news. He is proposing that the government itself become a media agency in an effort to get around “the traditional media.”

Every totalitarian government has such government-controlled agencies, of course. Who can forget the U.S.S.R.’s famed Pravda and Izvestia news agencies?

Lastly, think of this for just a minute. If Fillichio and Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis don’t think that the left-wing, Old Media is fair enough to them, just imagine how biased and left-wing the “news” that this new ministry of Big Labor information would be disgorging!

I mean if the leftists in the Old Media aren’t leftist enough to suit Obama’s Dept. of Labor, I shudder to think how far left these guys really are.

Chalk this up as yet one more step toward authoritarianism evinced by this president and his administration.

How one NYT historical column on Lincoln makes a current one on Afghanistan appear moronic

Harold Holzer posts a very interesting historical view on Lincoln between the time of nomination and inauguration with a view to what he said (nothing) about abolition, slavery and secession despite his success with a party whose dedication was to kill slavery.
"I could say nothing which I have not already said, and which is in print and open for inspection for all"

Of course, we all recognize now that his hope was to forestall or eliminate the trial by fire which arrived by avoiding any chance that some inflammatory remark on principle would end in war.

But of course, war was UNAVOIDABLE.

No matter what he said. Or didn't.

Which makes Robert Wright's "Worse than Vietnam" on Afghanistan a bitter and head shakingly sad example of progressive delusion-think.

winne on abe.jpg

Wright lament's our lack of foresight in engaging in this war beginning with this...

"We did the Cole and we wanted the United States to react. And if they reacted, they are going to invade Afghanistan and that's what we want ... . Then we will start holy war against the Americans, exactly like the Soviets."
-- Mohammed Atef, military commander of Al Qaeda, in November of 2000

Yes, we're so dumb that continuing to fool us by killing our people OVER AND OVER will trick us into killing you so you can have that wider war.

You know, the one we could avoid if we weren't so blundering.

The centerpiece of his reasoning methods look like this:

Hawks sometimes try to turn this logic to their advantage: It's precisely because our enemies could remain dangerous after the war that we have to deny them a "platform" -- an Afghanistan that's partly or wholly under Taliban control; Communists weren't going to use Vietnam as a base from which to attack America, but we saw on 9/11 that Afghanistan can be used that way.

Actually, we didn't. The staging ground for the 9/11 attacks was Germany -- and some American flight schools -- as much as Afghanistan. The distinctive challenge posed by terrorism is that the enemy doesn't need to occupy much turf to harm us.

While I'm not even sure it's possible to respond in a thinking way to such idiocy, I think we can say that the 'staging ground' for this was in the home of Hassan Al Banna, and given strength and aggressiveness by the life and thought of Sayd Qutb, nurtured after his death by the Al Saud who gave shelter to his brother who taught the entire movement from Abdul Aziz University's School of Islamic Studies, and was born into real war in Afghanistan. THAT IS HISTORY, Mr. Wright. And no safe house in Hamburg used for temporary convenience in a war run from a safe place, in a land where the Taliban and it's Muslim Brotherhood's brothers conceive of how to execute their 1998 Fatwa can change that.

This 'worse than vietnam' war, as Samuel Huntington explained, is UNAVOIDABLE.

We may have administrations that wish they could thread the needle of making war against extremists while not calling them muslims, but to imagine for a SECOND that this can be avoided by allowing our people to be slaughtered, begs the question of why not just pay the jizya and go back to our Sunday tailgating?

I mean, that's all we would have to do to avoid engaging Al Qaeda and it's think alike religious freakazoids and then killing innocents thereby fulfilling their big 'trick' on us and therefore recruiting for them, right?

Besides, those Japs had a real grievance back in 1941, and look what happened by 1980 anyway?

I mean why bother?

Now they demonstrate they can and will, sooner or later corrupt ANYTHING..
"The IRS can deny tax exempt status to groups that work against "established public policy," a precedent established in its denial of a tax exemption to Bob Jones University over racial discrimination"

Those who resist porno scans and gropefests should have their 'information' taken ...and
public policy.jpg

IRS to Jewish group: 'Does your organization support the existence of the land of Israel?'

A Pennsylvania Jewish group that has claimed the Internal Revenue Service is targeting pro-Israel groups introduced in federal court today a letter from an IRS agent to another, unnamed organization that tax experts said was likely outside the usual or appropriate scope of an IRS inquiry.

"Does your organization support the existence of the land of Israel?" IRS agent Tracy Dornette wrote the organization, according to this week's court filing, as part of its consideration of the organizations application for tax exempt status. "Describe your organization's religious belief sytem toward the land of Israel."

The document emerged in the course of a lawsuit filed in August by Z Street, a hawkish group that casts itself as the Zionist answer to the liberal J Street. Z Street claims that a different IRS agent reviewing its application for tax exempt status said the agency is "carefully scrutinizing organizations that are in any way connected with Israel" and that "a special unit" is determining whether its activities "contradict the Administration's public policies.'"

The IRS can deny tax exempt status to groups that work against "established public policy," a precedent established in its denial of a tax exemption to Bob Jones University over racial discrimination, and Z Street is suggesting that the IRS has begun applying some such policy to pro-Israel groups. The State Department has complained of tax exempt contributions to groups that fund weapons and equipment for West Bank settlers, which Z Street co-founder Lori Lowenthal Marcus said Z Street has never come close to doing.

"Given that we have fallen within this net, how big is the net?" she asked.

Apparently, the net is for all those who oppose 'public policy, honey'

The agent's question was contained in correspondence with "a Jewish religious organization" with no stated position on Israel, Z Street says in its court filing. The group's tax adviser, Z Street says, shared the correspondence with Z Street. Z Street does not know the name of the group and may subpoena the tax adviser, who is no longer cooperating with them, for more information, Marcus said.

Several experts on non-profit tax law said the questions to the organization were unusual, at best, though they were also skeptical of the claim that the IRS is specifically targeting pro-Israel groups.

No, they are targeting anyone who might be successful in opposing THE ONE, the NARCISSISTIC ARROGANT ONE, and publicly bringing any degree of calumny or embarrassment, or discomfiture to HIM and his appointed acolytes. Those who oppose His public policies must be by definition opposing progress and goodness, and therefore are to be targeted.

Who in Congress voted this power to the Dept of the Treasury?

"The claims go far beyond what should be the IRS's role," said Paul Caron a University of Cincinnati law professor and the author of TaxProf Blog.

Ellen Aprill, a law professor at Loyola University in Los Angeles said the second question was "appropriate" in the context of an application seeking a tax exemption on religious grounds.
