Alright, Now I Am Beginning To Believe Anders Behring Breivik May Be Intimately Involved in the Anti-Jihad Movement

Check out this comment, attributed to Anders Breivik, from Islam Vs. Europe:
I ran the business a few years while I studied and earned a few million so I could finance a inntektsløs politically active life. I now use these funds to be able to work full time to further develop / promote the Vienna Academy (Vienna school of thought) that Fjordman, Bat Yeor, Spencer + many others have already contributed so much till. The last three years I worked full time with a cultural conservative works that will help to further develop / promote these political doctrines further.
It seems to me there are not a lot of anti-Jihad "works" with whom he could have been working. I'm guessing people in the movement know who this guy is.

If you know the guy, it might be a good idea to admit it, because if he is as intimately involved as this comment would seem to indicate, then it is going to come to light.

Pamela Geller Gives Charles Johnson The Smackdown

Heads Explode

Libelblogger Charles Johnson is claiming that the Norway shooter is a "Pamela Geller fan," and that he is actually Fjordman, whose articles I have published here at Atlas on occasion. He has persisted in this even though Fjordman is online tonight and clearly not under arrest. This shows how desperate Johnson is, and how low he will sink. In reality, the shooter is not Fjordman. I have met Fjordman, I know his identity, and he is not Anders Breivik. This is just a sinister attempt to tar all anti-jihadists with responsibility for this man's heinous actions.
The Jihadis took credit for it. Who would take credit for such barbarity and carnage? And yet this goes without comment. But there is no compunction in associating me with a mass murderer based on one referring link three years ago. McVeigh watched CNN when he lost it over Waco, so I guess CNN is a terrorist org?
But this is war. And the left is vicious, amoral and depraved. They mean to win, and that is the only way they know how.
As for the Johnson, he is a very sick man. Let's hope he doesn't hurt himself.
UPDATE: Maybe the shooter turned and snapped like Johnson.

Afghanistan Taliban hang 8-year-old boy

From Will at The Other News:
Suspected Taliban militants hanged an 8-year-old boy in southern Afghanistan after ordering his father, a local police commander, to surrender. The child was kidnapped by militants in Greshk district of the southern province of Helmand four days ago and was hanged on Friday, Daud Ahmadi, provincial governor spokesperson said.

The militants had warned his father, who is a local police commander, to surrender with his police vehicle and weapons, otherwise they would kill his son,” Ahmad said.

The Taliban have not commented. After being driven from power in late 2001, Taliban militants have killed dozens of people accused of spying.

Last year a 7-year-old boy was killed by the Taliban for being a spy for foreign soldiers in the same province.

Elsewhere, an operation by Afghan and coalition forces in Helmand left 16 militants dead overnight, officials said. They also confiscated a drug cache of 2 000 kilograms of poppy, six kilograms of heroin, 50 kilograms of hashish and 150 kilograms of morphine, as well as 20 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, which is used as an explosive component.

Utøya gunman boasted of links to UK far right

From the Guardian:
Anders Brehing Breivik, the man accused of the murder of at least 91 Norwegians in a twin bomb and gun massacre, boasted online about his discussions with the far right English Defence League and other anti-Islamic European organisations.

The Norwegian daily VG quoted one of Breivik's friends saying that he had become a rightwing extremist in his late 20s and was now a strong opponent of multi-culturalism, expressing strong nationalistic views in online debates.

Breivik had talked admiringly about conversations he had had with unnamed English Defence League members and the organisation Stop the Islamification of Europe over the success of provocative street actions leading to violence.

"I have on some occasions had discussions with SIOE and EDL and recommended them to use certain strategies," he wrote two years ago.

"The tactics of the EDL are now to 'lure' an overreaction from the Jihad Youth/Extreme-Marxists, something they have succeeded in doing several times already." Contacted about the allegation by email by last night the EDL had not answered.

Breivik's Facebook page was blocked, but a cached version describes a conservative Christian from Oslo. The profile veers between references to lofty political philosophers and gory popular films, television shows and video games. The account appears to have been set up on 17 July. The site lists no "friends" or social connections.

Anti-dhimmitude in an Australian court: "Man who had relationship with primary-school girl jailed for 10 years," by Mark Dunn for the Herald Sun, July 22 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
A MAN who claimed it was culturally acceptable for him to have a sexual relationship with a primary-school child who later bore him a son will spend up to 10 years in jail. The 31-year-old, now classified as a pedophile, had claimed his cultural background meant age was not a relevant factor in choosing a wife or sexual partner, the County Court in Melbourne heard.
But in sentencing the man, who migrated as a refugee from a north-Asian country, Judge Lisa Hannan said his continued sexual relationship with the girl - from the age of eight until she fell pregnant - was repulsive and defied morality.

Gunman fired at youth on island for 1.5 hours; police arrived 40 mins after called

Thanks to Will at The Other News:
OSLO, Norway - A gunman who opened fire on an island teeming with young people kept shooting for 1.5 hours before surrendering to a SWAT team, which arrived 40 minutes after they were called, police said Saturday.
Survivors of the shooting spree have described hiding and fleeing into the water to escape the gunman, but a police briefing Saturday detailed for the first time how long the terror lasted — and how long victims waited for help.
When the SWAT team arrived, the gunman, who had two firearms, surrendered, said Police Chief Sveinung Sponheim.
"There were problems with transport to Utoya" island, where the youth-wing of Norway's Labor Party was holding a retreat, Sponheim said. "It was difficult to get a hold of boats, but that problem was solved when the SWAT team arrived."
At least 85 people were killed on the island, but police said four or five people were still missing. Divers have been searching the waters around the island.
The attack followed a bombing at a government building in Oslo, where seven people were killed. Police are still digging through rubble there, and Sponheim said body parts remain in the building.
Police said he is talking to them and has admitted to firing weapons on the island. It was not clear if he had confessed to anything else he is accused of. Police said he retained a lawyer, but the attorney did not want to be named.
"He has had a dialogue with the police the whole time, but he's a very demanding suspect," Sponheim said.

Anders Behring Breivik Had Recently Been In The Middle East For 8 Months? UPDATE - NO, HE HAD NOT

UPDATE - An Anonymous commenter points out my error. Conservatism (Anders) had been quoting the post of another person named Diaf, who wrote:

Posted by DiafIt's true.  I'm around.  Back in EU after 8 months in the Middle East and recently returned to the solitary life so I'm toying with the idea of raiding again.

to which Conservatism (Anders) replied:

Hey all, and wb (welcome back) from Dubai, Heru!:)
Sorry about the dumb mistake on my part.

Apparently, Anders Behring Breivik participated in a World of Warcraft forum, under the name "Conservatism, posted on 12/12/2010.
'Back in EU after 8 months in the Middle East and recently returned to the solitary life so I'm toying with the idea of raiding again.'
I believe "raiding" is a World of Warcraft idiom.

But, what was he doing in the Middle East for 8 months?

Here's some possible corroboration to the story that this is Anders Behring Breivik,

By the way, note that on this thread, those who participate in the discussion with "Conservatism" refer to him as "Anders", and seem to be very familiar with him, to the point of having missed him even though he had been gone for 9 months.
I was surprised to see you on last night Anders. I wondered if it was you. I'm starting to play again for Cataclysm although I wouldn't of said I was an SM veteran but yeah, i'll be around.. trying to figure how the funk you play a hunter these days.

Let us be clear about this; if he had spent 8 months in the Middle East, it does not prove that his attack on children, or on a government building, were Jihad-related.

He could have been in the Middle East on business.

However, of course, his business was called "GeoFarm", and was, according to reports I have read, involved in the sale and distribution of farming supplies.

The Middle East is not known for it's farming.

So, what would he have been doing in the Middle East? Perhaps he had other business interests.

Little Green Footballs on Anders Behring Breivik: It Could Be Fjordman

It is NOT Fjordman. But, Charles has posted an unsubstantiated rumor that Fjordman put down his pen, picked up a gun, and murdered over 80 people.(Someone should get a screen shot of this.)

From Charles Johnson:

Here’s a Norwegian blog with some interesting but unverified information on Anders Behring Breivik and a photograph; the Google Translated version:
Anders Behring Breivik has previously driven the blog Fjordman and later for many years been a writer for the anti-Muslim and Zionist bloggers Gates of Vienna and Jihad Watch, under the pseudonym Fjordman.
On July 17, released Anders Behring Breivik a message on Twitter where he writes that “One person with a belief is Equal To The force of 100,000 WHO Have only not raised.”

The Blaze:

Update: Two New Suspects in Bloody Norway Massacre, Breivik Bought 6 Tons of Fertilizer Prior to Attack

Norway’s national news agency reports that police are looking into a second suspect in the shooting spree on Utoya island where 84 people were killed.

According to reports, while the prime suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, was wearing a sweater with a police emblem on it during the shooting, the second man was not dressed in any kind of official uniform.

Meanwhile, police have detained yet another man — this one carrying a knife — outside a hotel where Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg who was reportedly there visiting Labour Party youths who escaped the ravaged island.

The Telegraph’s video below features the handcuffed man apparently telling reporters that he was stopped because he had been carrying a knife in his pocket.

(see video at original story. it's in Norwegian and auto starts. mr)

And in another bizarre twist, reports are emerging that the prime suspect in both the Oslo and Utoya attacks allegedly purchased 6 tons of fertilizer prior to going on his bloody rampage. According to CNN:

An employee at a Norwegian agricultural cooperative told CNN that the man identified in media reports as the suspect in Friday’s attacks bought six tons of fertilizer from her company in May.

Oddmy Estenstad, of Felleskjopet Agr, said she did not think the order was strange at the time because the suspect has a farm, but after the bombing she called police because she knew the material can be used to make bombs.

“We are very shocked that this man was connected to our company,” said Estenstad. “We are very sad about what happened.

In total, 91 people were killed in the two attacks.

Terrorist/Murderer Anders Behring Breivik's Comments About Islam and Multiculturalism

From Islam Vs. Europe:
These are Google translations of comments Anders Behring Breivik made on the website document.no. There are many comments, so I will update this post as I go.

There is very little that he said that I would disagree with. It is clear that he is a Counterjihadist and visits the same sites that most of us do, Gates of Vienna, Jihadwatch, Atlas Shrugs, etc. He cites Fjordman's "Defeating Eurabia" many times. (Apparently some people have even hilariously claimed that Fjordman was himself the perpetrator. This is lunacy.)

Breivik also follows political developments in Britain and reads the Telegraph and Daily Mail. The revelation of the Labour government's conspiracy to flood the country with immigrants to "rub the right's nose in diversity" was of great interest to him. I'm sure the bien-pensants in the British left will now want to reflect soberly on the folly of pushing people too far.

What emerges very clearly from the comments is that he harbours resentment against the mainstream media for pushing a culturally Marxist agenda and covering up Muslim wrong-doing and the negative effects of mass immigration and multiculturalism in Europe generally. This applies especially in Norway, where he felt that the politically correct agenda was completely unchallenged by the mainstream press. This may explain the attack on the VG newspaper's offices. In some of the comments, he discussed setting up a Norwegian media organisation with a culturally conservative focus.

No doubt the media will try and depict him as a simple Nazi, but anyone reading his comments can see that he is far from that. He describes himself as a cultural conservative adhering to what he calls the Vienna School of Thought. He summarises this as follows:

Cultural Conservatism (anti-multiculturalism)
- Against Islamization
- Anti-racist
- Anti-authoritarian (resistance to all authoritarian ideologies of hate)
- Pro-Israel/forsvarer of non-Muslim minorities in Muslim countries
- Defender of the cultural aspects of Christianity
- To reveal the Eurabia project and the Frankfurt School (ny-marxisme/kulturmarxisme/multikulturalisme)
- Is not an economic policy and can collect everything from socialists to capitalists

In one post he mocks a journalist for speculating that a terror attack may have been carried out by right-wingers rather than Muslims:
"I do not understand why cnn mention the extreme right and the National Socialists? I have never ever heard of a right extreme or NS terrorist attacks of importance on European soil. This sounds like kulturmarxistisk wishful thinking."

Here are his quotes:
The problem is that it often does not help about 80% of Muslims are "moderates", ie they ignore the Quran. "It takes very few people to overthrow a plane."

What percentage is the Taliban of Pakistan's population? 1%, 3%, 5%? And how much chaos is there today?

In every society where Islam exists there will be a certain percentage of the Muslims who actually follow the traditional interpretations of the Koran.

And then we have the relationship between conservative Muslims and so-called "moderate Muslims".

There is moderate Nazis, too, that does not support fumigation of rooms and Jews. But they're still Nazis and will only sit and watch as the conservatives Nazis strike (if it ever happens). If we accept the moderate Nazis as long as they distance themselves from the fumigation of rooms and Jews?

Now it unfortunately already cut himself with Marxists who have already infiltrated-culture, media and educational organizations. These individuals will be tolerated and will even work as professors and lecturers at colleges / universities and are thus able to spread their propaganda.

For me it is very hypocritical to treat Muslims, Nazis and Marxists differ. They are all supporters of hate-ideologies. Not all Muslims, Nazis and Marxists are conservative, most are moderate. But does it matter? A moderate Nazi might, after having experienced fraud, choose to be conservative. A moderate Muslim can, after being refused to enter a club, be conservative, etc.

It is obvious that the moderate supporters of hate-ideologies, at a later date may choose conservatism.

Islam (ism) has historically led to 300 million deaths
Communism has historically led to 100 million deaths
Nazism has historically led to 6-20 million deaths

ALL hate ideologies should be treated equally.
Yes, he wrote that. "all hate ideologies should be treated equally".

He was bothered by the fact that the media tried to blame the "right-wing" for a terrorist attack and then he went out and committed a vile, malevolent act of terror.

Somehow this guy who quoted Philosophers like Mill, admired Churchill, disavowed hate ideologies, owned and managed a company of 790 employees, also seemed to be managing voices in his head, and not very well.

This is a really strange story. But, as we all know, truth is, often, stranger than fiction.

There are many more quotes from Anders Behring Breivik at Islam vs. Europe.

About The Slaughter In Norway

I know that I'm going to anger some of you with the following, but here goes....

We who are anti-shari'a are going to end up owning this murderer's carnage.

We who support the Second Amendment will also end up owning the murderer's carnage.

We live in the world of perceptions -- not the world of realities.

This fellow's computer will be scrutinized to the nth degree.

Every site he ever visited will be investigated.

Every link on every site he ever visited will also be investigated.

As he expressed support of Geert Wilders, any and all of us who have uttered support of Wilders will also be investigated.

Get ready for the fallout. It's coming. That fallout will probably also include restricting what is said on the Internet.

Actually, for some time, I've been concerned that such an event would occur and tar us all.

Had this carnage occurred here in the United States, the fallout would suffocate us in short order.

After all, 84 children were slaughtered. That carnage shouldn't be ignored. The motivation behind that carnage shouldn't be ignored.

Midnight Rider adds:

This is going to cut far deeper than AoW states although I know she believes what I am going to say.

It is not just the counter-jihad that is going to own this in the eyes of the MSM and others.

Any one on the right will. This monster attacked a Socialist kids camp.

So if you are Tea Party they will be suspicious of you.

If you fly a Gadsden Flag they will be suspicious of you.

If you own a gun, belong to a gun club, have a license to carry, they will be suspicious of you.

If you criticize socialist policies and leanings they will be suspicious of you.

We will all be labeled right wing extremists. Militia.

Especially in light of the newest DHS see something say something video. The Missouri report of a years or so ago.

No doubt this will reinvigorate the U.N. Small Arms Treaty debate as well.

They are going to point their fingers at Oslo and Utoya and Tuscon and say "See! This is what happens when you say socialism is bad. This is what your rhetoric hath wrought."

People like Tom Harkin are already calling us a cult fringe before this. They will only use this to their advantage. While crying their crocodile tears about the poor souls lost to a madman.

Which is the real tragedy.

We may have jumped the shark in attributing this to Islam (guilty!) but at the same time it was an Islamic group who initially took credit for it.

Will that be reported? Will they ask why anyone of that certain religion would WANT to own this? Be held responsible for this?

For those of us trying to do the right thing, to open people's eyes to the perils before us, from Islam and from a country slipping away from our grasp, from a government run amuck and totally disconnected from the people they represent our job just got exponentially harder.

Because of a madman who none of us would want posting on our sites, if we knew his true mind. A madman half a world away. A madman whose views no doubt mirrored those of groups WE HERE HAVE CONDEMNED.

But the truth is the responsibilty for this belongs to one person and one person alone.

But that won't matter to the MSM and the left.

The truth never does unless it fits their agenda.

Obama 41%, Ron Paul 37%? Christie and Perry, PLEASE GIVE US MORE CHOICES!!

Rasmussen’s INCREDIBLE poll showing professional Larouchian attractor semi-crank, Stormfront $ accepting, but right about the debt, Ron Paul running competitively with Obama result, is SCROTUM SHRIVELING evidence of how seriously the american public is worried.

I have absolutely NO IDEA who I favor on the republican side, but I know I want more choice than I have. I know I DO NOT like a very disappointing Cain, an even MORE disappointing Newt, I find Romney BLAH and uninspiring, as I do Pawlenty (whose main favorability rating is that he is not TERRIBLE), I am in awe of Bachmann managing to be so right about the Constitution and so stupid in so many of her trap yappings, and so on down the list.

I do know that when I hear Christie speak about things plainly, it’s obvious he can GET THE MAIN MESSAGE OVER. I don’t know about Perry.

But I know this is the most important election since 1932, and maybe since 1860. It may turn out to be as important as the ratification debates in the mid 1780’s.

I would not be unhappy to see some people who may be regarded as outliers such as Perry and Rubio and Bolton get into it just to be sure we get a full debate and see who can carry the message to independents.

Ron Paul is absolutely NOT the answer, and I am not talking about just beating Obama. The fate of the nation may be riding on this election, and we have to think about what is best for the nation to survive and be what it was designed to be, NOT WIN ELECTIONS.

In the current breakdown of debt talks we can see what happens with posturing to win elections.

If only ~30% of the american people think we are on the right track, it is essential the republicans find the right person for the benefit of the nation. NOT THE PARTY.

We need more choice to ensure that result.

Chris, Rick, John, Marco…THINK ABOUT THAT FIRST

Think about that today, will you?

"Assisstants of the Global Jihad" May Have Uploaded a Video Predicting the Oslo Attacks Days Several Days Ago?

From Fast Company:

A terrorists group has claimed responsibility for today's attacks in Oslo, Norway--which included the bombing of the Prime Minister's office and a massacre at a children's day camp by a gunman dressed as a police officer--using social media.
An obscure group called Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami (Assistants of the Global Jihad) posted a message on an Islamist bulletin board called Smukh and may have uploaded a video to YouTube several days ago predicting the attack, in which at least seven people were killed.
Ansar al-Jihad's Abu Sulayman al-Nasir allegedly posted a message claiming responsibility for the Oslo attacks on the Arabic-language jihadist forum Shamikh. According to a partial translation by terrorism expert Will McCants of Jihadica, al-Nasir claims the attacks were in retribution for the occupation of Afghanistan by foreign troops and unnamed insults to the Muslim prophet Muhammad. Al-Nasir also threatens further attacks:
We have warned since the Stockholm raid of more operations and we have demanded that the countries of Europe withdraw from the land of Afghanistan and end their war on Islam and Muslims. What you see is only the beginning and there is more to come.
The “Stockholm raid” reference is in response to a 2010 suicide bombing in Sweden.
The original post on Shamikh was taken offline and apparently replaced by the terrorist version of a 404 page.

Commenters on Twitter are also claiming that a Polish-language video uploaded to YouTube several days ago and taken later taken offline predicted terrorist attacks in Oslo. However, since the video is not available, the veracity of this claim is unknown. An alleged cache of the YouTube clip is shown below.

The Norwegian Prime Minister's office was hit by what appears to be a sophisticated car bomb, and a gunman opened fire on a day camp in Oslo affiliated with the Norwegian Labor Party. An exact casualty count is not known, but Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is unharmed.
This is an ongoing story; media sources are still unclear on the number of bombs that have gone off in Oslo, the number of casualties, and what exactly happened at the day camp shooting. We recommend checking the Twitter feeds of the New York Times, BBC, and Norwegian journalist Rune Håkonsen for the latest.

Utoya Toll Now At Least 80

Death Toll Tops 80 in Homegrown Terror Attacks on Norway Capital, Youth Camp

OSLO, Norway – A homegrown terrorist set off a deadly explosion in downtown Oslo before heading to a summer camp dressed as a police officer to commit one of the deadliest shooting sprees in history, killing at least 80 people as terrified youths ran and even swam for their lives, police said Friday.

Police initially said about 10 were killed at the forested camp on the island of Utoya, but some survivors said they thought the toll was much higher. Police director Oystein Maeland told reporters early Saturday they had discovered many more victims.

"It's taken time to search the area. What we know now is that we can say that there are at least 80 killed at Utoya," Maeland said. "It goes without saying that this gives dimensions to this incident that are exceptional."

Norwegian Bomber/Shooter, Purposeful Murderer of Children

From Huffington Post:
Police said Friday evening that they've linked the youth camp shooting and Oslo bombing. Breivik is believed to have acted alone.
Norwegian TV2 reports that Breivik belongs to "ring-wing circles" in Oslo. Swedish news site Expressen adds that he has been known to write to right-wing forums in Norway, is a self-described nationalist and has also written a number of posts critical of Islam.
A Twitter account for Breivik has surfaced, though it only has one post, this quote from philosopher John Stuart Mill: "One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests." The tweet was posted on July 17.
On a Facebook account that Norwegian media outlets have attributed to Breivik, he describes himself as having Christian, conservative views. He says he enjoys hunting, the games World of Warcraft and Modern Warfare 2, and lives in Oslo. He also lists political analysis and stock analysis as interests.

From Boing Boing:
The suspect arrested in today's bombing and shooting attacks in Oslo is 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik, who is believed to have links to right-wing extremist and anti-immigrant (read: anti-Muslim) organizations. (source: Sky News). And now, he has a Wikipedia page. The Daily Mail has photos

Here's what Norwegian media are reporting as his Facebook page, and Twitter account. Looks like they were both just activated within the past week, which is all very suspicious.

Aftenposten notes that he is said to be a conservative Christian and a Mason, and into hunting and bodybuilding. He owned a farming company that had access to chemicals believed to have been used for bomb-making.
According to comments attributed to him on various Norwegian right-wing/anti-immigrant forums, he was a fan of an array of white supremacist and anti-Muslim pundits—including some from the US. Assuming it's legit, all of this makes early reports that Muslims were responsible for the attacks all the more regrettable.

More Oklahoma City than World Trade Center (?)

PASTORIUS CUTTING IN - I added a "?" to Midnight Rider's title. And, I will add this bit, from Jihad Watch to the top of this post, because I think there may be something fishy about this claim by the government that this is not related to Islamic terrorism:
At last, some apparently definitive information. After a jihad group curiously claimed responsibility and retracted, and after some terror experts said it was a jihad attack and some said it wasn't, and after the media pointed to jihadists as essentially the only ones with a motive, and Islamic supremacists applauded the attack, it appears that it was not a jihad attack after all. "Norway Camp Shooting: 'As Many As 30 Dead,'" from Sky News, July 22:
As many as 30 people are feared dead in a shooting at a Norwegian youth camp after a bomb in the capital, Oslo, killed at least seven. Shots were fired by a man dressed as a police officer at a youth meeting of the ruling Labour Party in Utoya - an island around 20 miles from the capital.
He has been named in Norway as Anders Behring Breivik - an anonymous official said he was believed to have been working alone.
Police said they do not think the attacks were linked to Islamic terrorism....

The Latest: Lone individual perpetrated both attacks by setting off the bombs then driving to the camp. Authorities claim not Islam related.

At least that's the story for now.

At Least 16 Dead in Attacks on Norway Capital, Youth Camp

A homegrown terrorist set off an explosion that ripped open buildings in the heart of Norway's government Friday, then went to a summer camp dressed as a police officer and gunned down youths as they ran and even swam for their lives, police said Friday.
The attacks killed at least 16 people in this peaceful nation's worst violence since World War II.
A police official said the 32-year-old ethnic Norwegian suspect arrested at the camp on Utoya island appears to have acted alone in both attacks, and that "it seems like that this is not linked to any international terrorist organizations at all." The official spoke on condition of anonymity because that information had not been officially released by Norway's police.
"It seems it's not Islamic-terror related," the official said. "This seems like a madman's work."

The official said the attack "is probably more Norway's Oklahoma City than it is Norway's World Trade Center." Domestic terrorists carried out the 1995 attack on a federal building in Oklahoma City, while foreign terrorists were responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

The official added, however, "it's still just hours since the incident happened. And the investigation is going on with all available resources."

The motive was unknown, but both attacks were in areas connected to the ruling Labor Party government. The youth camp, about 20 miles (35 kilometers) northwest of Oslo, is organized by the party's youth wing, and the prime minister had been scheduled to speak there Saturday.

A 15-year-old camper named Elise said she heard gunshots, but then saw a police officer and thought she was safe. Then he started shooting people right before her eyes.

"I saw many dead people," said Elise, whose father, Vidar Myhre, didn't want her to disclose her last name. "He first shot people on the island. Afterward he started shooting people in the water."

Elise said she hid behind the same rock that the killer was standing on. "I could hear his breathing from the top of the rock," she said.

She said it was impossible to say how many minutes passed while she was waiting for him to stop.

Beslan in Norway - Norway Children's Camp Shooting: 'As Many As 30 Dead'

Several of us at IBA (and elsewhere, of course) have been warning about this for years, our voices mostly lost in the politically correct wilderness.

Now it's happened not in the U.S. but in Norway.

The Jihad has deliberately targeted the kids, mostly 14 to 18 year olds.

Every parent's ultimate nightmare. Let their child off to youth camp or summer camp or Girl Scout Camp (where mine is right now) or Boy Scout Camp or Bible Retreat where they will be safe and taken care of. And then it goes bad and you cannot get to your child. To make sure they're ok. To make sure they're not terrified out of their mind.

Where's your son or daughter. right now?

UPDATE 3:35 p.m. ET: Police said they were confident they had been able to identify the gunman, whom they had in custody. They did not release his identity, but they said they had confirmed that they had "reason to believe" he was connected to the Oslo bombing.

NRK reporter Astrid Randen quoted witnesses as saying the man — described as "tall, blond and Nordic-looking" and speaking Norwegian — wore a police uniform and summoned youth campers to gather around him before he "just executed them."

People in at least 20 pleasure boats converged on the island to help with the rescue operation. One of them, André Skeie, told NRK that he saw at least a dozen "lifeless bodies" floating in the water.

Skeie said he helped remove more than 15 injured people from the island. Many of them were shot in the stomach, he said.

"It's absolutely awful. It looks like a war zone," Skeie said by phone.

Norway Camp Shooting: 'As Many As 30 Dead'
As many as 30 people are feared dead in a shooting at a Norwegian youth camp after a bomb hit the capital Oslo killed at least seven.

Shots were fired by a man dressed as a police officer at a youth meeting of the ruling Labour Party in Utoya - an island on the outskirts near the capital.
An eyewitness reported seeing between 25 and 30 bodies.
Norwegian police said they thought there could also be explosives on the island.
Around 600 people were believed to be taking part in the summer camp - most of whom were teenagers aged between 14 and 18.
Police said that Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg had been due to attend the event.
One man was arrested after the incident - he was described as tall and blonde, and spoke fluent Norwegian.
Sky sources reported he was shot and wounded during the arrest.
Police said they suspected he was linked to the bombing in Oslo.
Emilie Bersaas, 19, was on the island when the shooting started and said that people started running and screaming when they heard the gunfire.
"People are very shaken up as we do not know who is fine and who is not," she said.
"There are a lot of people I do not know anything about.
"It was terrifying - at one point, the shooting was very close to me and hit the building I was in.
"The people in the next room screamed loudly."
The bomb attack struck on Friday afternoon near government and media offices
Sky's security editor Sam Kiley said a specialist swat team had carried out the arrest of the gunman.
"The fact they captured him alive is a major breakthrough because they will be able to establish from him if it is an ongoing attack," he said.
"The intelligence community has been expecting that a Mumbai-style attack has been imminent since a year ago.
"The worst-case scenario is not just multiple attacks in one country, but in several countries.
"So we can expect to see a rise in preventative security."
Security expert Bob Ayers said there are only a limited amount of things that can be done to protect people.
"The only thing (authorities) can do is interfere in the planning phase before people are killed.
"If you can not do that, you have to be prepared to react rapidly."
The shooting happened after police confirmed there were "one or more powerful explosions at a government building in Oslo".
Police told people in the Norwegian capital to stay away from the city centre and limit the use of mobile phones.
They also warned them to avoid large gatherings.
At least seven people are believed to have been killed in the bombing and several injured, in the deadliest attack in Norway since World War II.
Sky sources said that survivors reported a strong smell of sulphur which has led to police investigating the theory this was a car bomb using fertiliser nitrate.
Sam Kiley said that earlier this year, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula released a bomb-making handbook which contained notes on how to build fertiliser bombs.
"The know how is out there and the materials are out there," he said.
And he added that if it was a fertiliser car bomb, it would have been very damaging.
"You could get a ton of relatively high explosive concentrated in a metal box - then what you have is a gigantic grenade."
The explosion was outside the building that housed the offices of the Prime Minister, although he was not there at the time.
It was also near the finance ministry and the offices of Norway's biggest tabloid newspaper.
Mr Stoltenberg described the situation as "very serious" but said it was too soon to say what caused the explosion.
The Mayor of Oslo, Fabian Stang, said he would not have believed Norway could be attacked.
He said that he had initially hoped the explosion had been caused by an accident.
Asked about the attack on the youth camp on the island, Mr Stang said he wished he could have been there: "To stand in front of the young people and ask the gunman to shoot me instead."
Craig Barnes lives in Oslo and said that he was shocked at what happened.
"It is a very nice, safe place to live," he said.
"Norwegians are very friendly and I think everyone gets on.
"I think this is going to change a lot of views now. There will be questions regarding safety."
Norwegian police have reported there were 'deaths and injuries'
Nato member Norway has been the target of threats in the past - particularly for its involvement in Afghanistan and Libya.
The country has also experienced problems with several home-grown terror plots linked to al Qaeda.
Last week, a Norwegian prosecutor filed terror charges against an Iraqi-born cleric for threatening Norwegian politicians with death if he was deported.
The Swedish foreign minister, Carl Bildt, posted a message on Twitter about the bombs, and said "We are all Norwegians."
Foreign Secretary, William Hague, said that any British nationals caught up in the attack would be able to get help from the Embassy.
Meanwhile, there was condemnation from the European Union president Herman Van Rompuy, who described the bombing as an act of "cowardice".
An American state department spokeswoman said they "condemned these despicable acts of violence".

The propaganda of Guy Delisle

We seem to have yet another cartoonist following in Joe Sacco's footsteps, concocting a graphic novel that's intended to take the Islamic/palestinian side during Operation Cast Lead. His name is Guy Delisle, and he's put together a GN called "Jerusalem: Chronicles From The Holy City":
Drawn and Quarterly's Editor-In-Chief and Publisher Chris Oliveros announced today that his company has acquired world English rights to Jerusalem: Chronicles From The Holy City, a graphic novel memoir from Guy Delisle. The book details the day to day life in Israel within the context of the conflicts that rock the area, based on the year the acclaimed cartoonist spent with his family in East Jerusalem.
And in what company? And what accompanying religion? Here's the part signaling where his bias comes in:
Says Oliveros: "Jerusalem: Chronicles From The Holy City powerfully captures the conflict of the Gaza War, a three-week long military strike that resulted in over 1000 Palestinian deaths, while also showcasing olive gardens, check points and the architecture of the region. There has never been a book like it and it will surely become a handbook on the region much like Guy's Pyongyang is for North Korea."
And which olive gardens would those be too? More importantly though, we see that there's no mention of Israeli side, whether it be people who suffered traumas from the rocket attacks the Hamas fired then (note that Operation Cast Lead isn't mentioned clearly as the name from the time either), or even any Jewish casualties. And according to Jewish Virtual Library:
On Saturday, December 27, 2008, the Israel Defense Forces launched an airstrike against Hamas terrorist cells in the Gaza Strip. Since the beginning of the operation, Palestinian sources claim, approximately nine-hundred Gazans were killed - most of whom were Hamas militant forces. Israel military officials state that over 500 Hamas gunmen have been killed in Operation Cast Lead's ground incursion.

Israel's Operation Cast Lead comes after three years of suffering thousands of daily Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel's southern cities.

Since the start of the operation, Hamas has increased their number of attacks and has fired hundreds of rockets into Israel. Hamas is firing an average of 80 rockets into Israel each day. Rockets were fired into Ashdod and Ashkelon and, for the first time, Grad rockets have been hitting Beersheba. It is clear that Hamas widened their rocket range in response to the incursion in Gaza.

Due to Hamas's endless and widespread barrage of rockets on Israeli towns, the IDF Home Front Command has expanded their security precautions to all towns within a 19- mile radius of Gaza.

Schools in Ashdod, Ashkelon, Beersheba and other southern cities are closed as Hamas continues purposely firing rockets into civilian centers including multiple kindergartens in all major cities. Since the Israeli airstrike began, four Israelis have been killed and over 176 were wounded while hundreds are being treated for shock. Israel's southern citizens have been forced to move into bomb shelters as their community's schools, buildings and roads are destroyed in front of their eyes.

In two weeks, Hamas has fired 500 rockets into Israel's southern cities. Many of these have been the more deadly Grad katyusha rockets. On January 6 a three-month old girl was wounded from a Grad rocket that was fired into Gedara. On January 8 four people were wounded as a mortar shells were fired at the Eshkol region.
Will any of this info turn up in Delisle's graphic novel? I've got a sad feeling it won't. See also this Haaretz article from 2009 telling how Hamas admitted around 700 of its own terrorists were killed, and deservedly. And as Israel Matzav notes, the vast majority were terrorists, NOT civilians.

This was found through CBR's Robot 6 blog, via a contributor named Sean T. Collins, whom I discovered has done some rather odd things. In this old post on his own site from 2003, he supposedly understood Islamic terror:
Before 9/11, this cowboy president of ours had made it absolutely clear that he was planning on keeping his hands off of not just Iraq, but really every other country on the planet. Remember the whole “no nation building” thing? Back then, he was criticized as being too isolationist by the same people now convinced he’s out to conquer the world. What, then, prompted Islamist terrorists from atomizing 3,000 people that day? Bush’s interventist approach toward Texas?
But then:
And as Christopher Hitchens points out, one of the synagogues devastated last Saturday had already been the site of a terrorist attack, back when Reagan and Thatcher were in charge of the US and UK and Saddam was our friend. Unless those terrorists were time travellers, it’s difficult to understand how their actions were caused by the regime change policy.
Say what? Since when was that awful monster who's thankfully gone now our "friend"? Not only does that veer towards moral equations, it also reeks of "smear by association".

He also supports Joe Sacco's propaganda, Footnotes in Gaza, and says:
The fourth thing Sacco does well is portraiture. This book is just as much a Beard Parade (and Mustache Parade, and Grumpy Little Kid Parade, and Wrinkled Old Lady Parade) as R. Crumb’s Book of Genesis Illustrated, and there’s just as much care and attention put into differentiating each from the other. (The exception are the Israeli soldiers in the flashback sequences; they have a uniform build, the shadow of their pith helmets rendering them eyeless and inscrutable. Only the notably monstrous or humane gain individualization.) But even still there are standouts. Take Sacco’s frequent interview subject and companion Khaled: A Palestinian guerrilla marked for death by the IDF and constantly moving from place to place, he nonetheless has a Cheshire Cat serenity in his heavy-lidded face. We frequently see him in repose, including one sequence where he lies immobile in bed, staring directly at the reader as he speaks of his utter exhaustion with his life on the run.
So on the one hand, the Israeli soldiers are depicted as villains via shadowy illustration, and on the other, either Sacco or Collins or both are referencing the "palestinian" as a guerrilla instead of terrorist or even enemy soldier, and using a tactic to get the audience's sympathy. What a very bad aftertaste.

And back on the current track, it's despicable that D&Q is giving a platform to potential anti-Israel propaganda while at the same time don't seem to be publishing anything pro-Israel. Some European-born cartoonists really can be despicable.

Oslo explosion: dozens injured, buildings damaged after Norway city blast
A massive explosion rocked central Oslo on Friday, injuring dozens of people and severely damaging government buildings including the Prime Minister’s office.

The blast, which occurred about 3.30pm local time on Friday, left at least a dozen people injured amid fears "hundreds" had died.

There were, however, no immediate reports of casualties from the blast, which occurred at the government headquarters which house the offices of Jens Stoltenberg.

It remains unclear what caused the blast or if it was a terrorism attack. The Prime Minister was reported to be safe.

The cause of the blast was unknown but the tangled wreckage of a car was outside one building.

The damage appeared consistent with that from car bombs. Police and fire officials declined to comment on the cause.

Oslo blast seen from the sky

Injured people were seen lying on the street in pools of blood. Heavy debris littered the streets and smoke rose over the city centre.

The 17-storey building, which also houses Norway's biggest tabloid newspaper VG, was reported to be on fire, with thick black smoke being seen for miles.

Witnesses reported the massive blast blew out most windows in the building as well as nearby government departments including the oil ministry, in Norway’s capital and most populated city.

The bottom floor appeared to be completely gutted

"I'm still in my work office and people here seem pretty freaked out and are ringing around friends and relatives like mad," Ruarí Ødegaard, an exatriate Briton living in Oslo told The Daily Telegraph.

"Also can hear quite a few police sirens even where I am."

Mr Odegaard, 34, whose wife is Norwegian, moved to Oslo in 2008 after growing up in Frimley, Surrey.

"The local media seem very confused," he said.

"One minute NRK (national media like BBC) reported two explosions and then a moment later they retracted. So far no reports of deaths just injuries but again no figures as to how many."

Users on Twitter also described sheer panic.

"I fear that many 100s could be dead. Poor poor poor guard that worked in the first floor. :(:(," one local trader posted on Twitter.

He added later: "There has not been any more blasts in Oslo after the one. It is confirmed that it was indeed a bomb."

Another witness told public radio NRK: "I see that some windows of the VG building and the government headquarters have been broken. Some people are covered with blood are lying in the street.”

Ingunn Andersen, a local journalist, said: "There is glass everywhere. It is total chaos. The windows of the all the surrounding buildings have been blown out."

Kjersti Vedun, who was leaving the area, added: It exploded - it must have been a bomb. people ran in panic and ran. I counted at least 10 injured people."

Witness Ole Tommy Pedersen was standing at a bus stop about 100 yards from the high-rise when he saw the blast shatter almost all windows of the highrise. He said a cloud of smoke is billowing from the bottom floors.

"I saw three or four injured people being carried out of the building a few minutes later," he said.

Other offices are being evacuated.

No other details were immediately known.

NATO member Norway has sometimes in the past been threatened by leaders of al Qaeda for its involvement in Afghanistan.

But political violence is virtually unknown in the country.

David Lea, Western Europe analyst, at Control Risks said: "It's very difficult to tell what has happened. There certainly aren't any domestic Norwegian terrorist groups although there have been some al Qaeda-linked arrests from time to time.

"They are in Afghanistan and were involved in Libya, but it's far too soon to draw any conclusions."

Video shows Iran executions. Warning Extremely Graphic Images!

From Will at The Other News:

A graphic video of a public hanging in Iran of three men convicted for rape shows the "brutalisation" of the condemned and those who watch executions, Amnesty International said Thursday.
In the video, which the London-based human rights watchdog said it received from a blogger, the men are seen standing atop three buses as guards hook ropes around their necks from a bridge overhead.
Dozens of people can be seen watching from below in what was said to be Azadi Square in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah on Tuesday.
After the crimes for which the three men were convicted and their executions are announced, the buses back up one by one and leave the trio suspended by their rope as numerous onlookers photograph or film the hangings, Amnesty said.
"These latest public executions underline the continuing horror of the death penalty in Iran," said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Amnesty's deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa.
"Not only those executed, but all those who watch public executions, including, children, are brutalised and degraded by the experience. These public displays of killing perpetuate a culture of acceptance of violence and blood lust, rather than a belief in justice," she said.
"We have also been informed that the arrest, trial and execution of these men took barely two months, which raises serious questions about the fairness of the trial."
Iran's ISNA news agency reported that three men convicted of rape were hanged Tuesday in Kermanshah, saying people who watched chanted slogans praising the judiciary for their action.
