China Moving Warships Toward Syria?

I really don't like the looks of this. All of that hardware sitting over there means one thing, war.

A war that more than likely will cause casualties here on US soil.

We are not prepared for this.

It scares the hell out of me.

The State Department on Friday ordered nonessential American diplomats and the families of staffers at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut to leave Lebanon immediately due to security concerns as the Obama administration and Congress debate military strikes on neighboring Syria. The department also authorized the voluntary departure of diplomats and families at the U.S. Consulate in Adana, Turkey, which is the closest American diplomatic post to Syria in Turkey.

In a new travel warning for Lebanon, the department said it had instructed nonessential staffers to leave Beirut and urged private American citizens to depart the country "due to threats to U.S. mission facilities and personnel. "

in the early 60's, the Soviet Union thought they could fuck with a young, naive President Kennedy.

We were brought to the brink of Nuclear War before Kruschev blinked.

This time, Putin and China have watched for almost five years as our young, naive President has proven himself to be more and more feckless.

My concern is THEY WON'T BLINK.

Exactly Pastorius.

I agree Pasto, they 'know what meat they have in the barrel'.

Community organisors don't make good Generals....just like painters don't. :)

Yup. This just got a whole lot worse. My question is...WTF is China thinking? What does this move even mean? They've been quiet this whole time.

Politically, this is gearing up to be a fight between the US and a (now two) wannabe superpowers.

If the US retreats, you lose more respect around the world. And Russia and China gain some.

If you do attack, you're helping Al Qaeda (and losing credibility that way) and you risk a huge war.

Obama has seriously effed up America in this situation and those who voted him in the second time around are the ones responsible along with this POS.

Christine - same feeling here. Reminds me of a recent post about idle ships off the eastern US seaboard. IIRC, someone (Will?) mentioned that photos of multiple idle barges tethered together in NY Hudson bay might be there to monitor for seismic activity.
Recall the missile contrail that was witnessed off the southern CA waterline recently? With anxious eyes focused on the opposing marine military buildup in the ME, one wonders if instead of seismic activity these monitors are watching for something more mobile and nefarious coming from under the sea here off the US coastline?

It wouldn't surprise me.

It shouldn't given EPA's latest post about our imposter in chief, titled “I have been … doing everything I can to reduce our reliance on military power as a means of protecting the American people”

How better to do that than distract surviving (perhaps thats a poor choice of words but with cuts in military budgets - can't think of a better one) marine assets in the ME?

Putin is not Khrushchev.

Putin already has much of the world "on his side," so he's not seeking good will the way that Khrushchev was doing.

No blink coming from Putin, IMO.

That's what I was thinking, AOW. I think Putin is a world historical man. NOt simply an interim leader of Russia. He is the Russian Reagan. I don't like Putin, but this man is not one to bluff. He is not going to be bluffed.
